- The Object 248 in War Thunder is the top tier reward for Battle Pass Field Testing and it's an absolute BEAST!
Imagine an IS-2 but with the reload of an IS-1 and you get this monster! The 100mm cannon on the Object 248 is easily one of the best cannons in the game. It's so good in fact, it's still used all the way up to 7.7 BR!
The 100mm cannon has much the same penetration as the 122mm that's on the IS-2. The good news is that it's much easier to aim due to a high velocity but the reload is THREE times less at only 9 seconds!
This means you'll be on par with reload times against tanks such as the Panther, Tiger and even the Tiger II!
The Object 248 is so good I got totally carried away playing it! So, here's the games that I got! :)

Let's be honest Gaijin in general loves its compression. Especially the BR compression.
The game does the opposite of sound compression. It's almost as if they are tired of trying to balance the game around good and bad players so they just don't want to worry about good players using their ears to beat Tiger mains.
I love taking out my 1944 heavy tank into leopards and marders and bmps, because facing heatfs and cold war vehicles at almost the same br is fair, historical, and balanced, of course not compressed, since gaijin thinks its equivalent to face them as it was a tiger h facing an is 2
@@fly_pie_1172 Talk about Sherman fighting tiger II, totally fair🤣 Now I hate grinding at 6.7 so much I started playing 4.0 again, where Germany is strong and challenging but I can use my armour against weaker guns. At 6.0 Germany gets heat(bully m41)and destroys everything. US and Russia also get heat at 6.7 I think but it just makes it a point and click game, no skill required than luck
@@XSpamDragonX Lol, you act like using your ears is a skill. It's literally intrinsic and requires no skill whatsoever. If you have a headset with surround sound capabilities, you're going to know which direction a noise is coming from if you're a brand new player or an expert.
I still can’t _believe_ people thought this would be a bad tank. It’s just like you said, this is everything I wanted the IS-2 to be as well.
It's not that it is a bad tank, it performs well. It's just unoriginal and boring. The recent events and Battlepasses have just been copy paste vehicles with slight changes, rather then completely new and unique vehicles that actually feels worthwhile to collect. That is the main reason why people aren't excited for this vehicle. Just like the IS-2 event not too long ago, when the reward was just a copy pasted IS-2 with a new name and some decals. It just feels like Gaijin is getting lazier and lazier while demanding more and more money.

Also, the IS-2 is easy to pen frontally, but not the '2-SI'. Anything with this chassis works this way

yeah no shiz, when i used to play the is2 i always thought "man imagine if this thing had the 100mm cannon of the su100 instead of 122mm" and yes the soviets did but they thought it was too op agaisnt germans so they handicapped themselves by using a cannon that takes half an hour to reload

If the T44 got moved to 6.7 I don't see this thing staying below 7.0 for very long sadly.
T44 has better armor and better mobility... there is 0 way the obj 248 is going above 6.7
The amount of unluckiness that started at 5:16 is actually insane, just for him to top it off at the end, he said he got lucky he didn't die. Beautiful
12:10 It's kind of like compression but it's more a lack of sound level balancing so everything always slams into the limiter, which effectively sounds like it's all compressed.
They don't understand the importance of dynamics. It's okay for an explosion to peak at -10dB and machine guns to be at -14dB (I'm using random numbers as an example) and not close to the -3 to 0dB range because when 2 machine guns, an explosion, 3 tank engines and the drone of a plane and whatever else stack together, the result is right near the 0dB limit. The issue is that they start everything between -6dB and 0dB so it has nowhere to go when multiple sounds stack into a crescendo. It becomes soup.
I genuinely do not believe this is because "the sound guy" is dumb. I think "the sound guy" isn't a sound guy at all, he's just a random coder with no background in audio design, engineering, etc. He's trying his best but has no clue about how to give things room in a mix or leave headroom based on expected maximum layers of sounds at once. If you don't understand a mix, you make every single audio piece sound "full" - lows, mids, and highs - which ends up crowding out the entire EQ spectrum and making it muddy and gross sounding. It's how amateur guitarists are when they make their guitars sound "huge" in their bedrooms, but that setup sounds bad in a full mix.
What they need to do is temporarily hire an actual audio engineer to oversee a plan to design the sound so that it all has its own place and headroom when heard together. Then they can apply that to all new samples and sound pieces going forward - ie "machine guns have emphasis on Xhz through Y hz with their EQ, and nothing else does. Tank cannons have a resonant frequency of Z-Xhz range and will be treated the same way." Then they need to literally cut every sound's volume in half so that there is twice the headroom and then test it out to see if that's enough.
Due to the exponential nature of db stacking multiple loud sound really doesn't increase the the total db all that much. Also audio clipping has existed for so long that it has a psychoacoustics affect of making things seem louder then they are. I watched some anime recently where they clipped the shit out of the explosions and it made them seem massive. Although in this instance Id believe your theory that they just have a dev doing all the mixing.
If the sound guy is willing to pay to work for Gaijin then they _just might_ consider it.

with the is2, non 1944 hulls, you can shoot the area around the driver's port and its side plates there and one shot, very reliable as well

I'm mostly shocked at how mobile it looks. You maneuvred this thing expertly, but it reacts immediately. And turns on the spot. And climbs over obstacles. Pretty scary actually.

12:15 I've noticed that equalized sound problem too over the last year or so, especially planes. It seems like every update they oscillate between all planes being so quiet you cant hear them to all being so loud its all I can hear - and it doesn't matter if they're 500 or 5000m away.

This might be the first thing I spend money on. I've been looking forward to seeing it since I heard about it.
As a brainless German main (Germany suffers, I agree), I must admit so far while playing with the Panther D and Tiger I against it, I haven't had any trouble defeating these. The Panther can shoot through the front armor of the turret at a little bit of an angle. 50/50 chance. The reload indeed surprised me. One thing I find annoying when playing against them is that they all drive backwards with the turret pointing backwards too so their crew isn't knocked out while the front armor is already decently strong. I always shoot them in the engine compartment and then a minute later appear to their side or behind them to finish them off if my kill hasn't been stolen. Ngl German players are starting to do some nice teamwork every now and then.
This tank is good but it doesn't have the cremation level of TNT in its shell-like 122mm gun has.

Oddbawz, if you are having trouble between knowing if it is your own engine that you are hearing, perhaps your should crank that setting down to zero. That way the only engine sounds you hear should belong to the enemy (or possibly teammates - but the minimap will with that as you'll always see a teammate that is next to you).

Does anyone ever bounce off that flat armor above the tracks on the IS tanks like you do on panthers and tigers? I don't know if I've ever bounced on that and I get shot through them a fair amount.

What really sucks is this vehicle is the last tank you'd need to make the 6.3 line up fpr Russia viable again after the T 44 got put to 6.7 the lineup lacks a back bone. Three IS 2s are great but they lack a certain versatility
T-34-85 is still decent, or you can use T-34-100
Don't worry. This thing will definitely go up to 6.7 eventually. It's better then the IS-2 at the same BR is every way

Terrible armour at its br the T 44s only issue was the lacking cannon I still don't think this IS 100 I'm going to kall it can truly replace the T 44 but that Cannon is insane at 6.3 and can cut through anything aside from King Tigers

Biggest armor drawback compared to the IS 2 1944 is that it has the early hull with that huge weakspot around the driver hatch.

The thing I hate about the sound in WT is that I have my tank/plane sound level at 27, the minimum. It still sounds like I'm sitting inside the engine compartment. It's so bad I can't hear enemy tanks/planes because of it. So stupid. I find myself constantly having to turn my engine off to hear any enemies approaching my position. :(

@@str8ballinSA i tried a little bit of everything. I thought top tier was a good choice but it's actually harder there, at least with germany. Leo 2 is fast but not that fast. I had the most success with germany 9.7 (rad 90, PUMA, begleit and kpz 70)

Well, only tiger2s and IS2s can pen Jumbo, panther only at close range so not a lot of tanks
@@xeon39688 so that’s what that’s 4 panthers 4 different tiger 2s all USSR tanks with a 100mm and higher ASU-85 SU-100 All M41s especially the German M41 with HEAT PT76 and the rest of the HEAT tanks so pretty much every common tank a Jumbo faces
