The battlepass in War Thunder started pretty strong, but slowly became less rewarding and interesting over time. The new top reward premium tank, Object 248, brings some fun back into it. Object 248 is essentially an IS-2 with a 100mm cannon instead of the infamous 122mm, but it is much more fun to play. The 100mm has basically the same penetration but slightly less damage and a much faster reload rate. It's definitely worth getting the battlepass if you're a fan of Russian tanks or are just looking for an effective premium to grind with. I do wish Gaijin would bring back some of the more unique offerings, but Object 248 is welcome regardless.

@@kimjanek646 Ignoring the fact that the Tiger 2 P has a huge impenetrable plate to conventional rounds and a smaller weakspot. But yeah it shouldn’t go lower than 6.3
@@speedracer739 Yeah, with all honesty, the Tiger 2 P is better in almost every way (Gun has faster reload of 7.5 compared to Object 248's 8.5, overall better armour) apart from visibility and slightly better manueverability.
Hi odd. Baffles me that what amounts to a worse armored T-44-100 and ppl want ane entire BR lower like what.
IS-2 is definitely worse than the King Tiger, however, King Tigers are driven by Germany players so that balances it out.

@@adamg7984 yeah one of the things that helps is that IS2 has best reverse speed of URSS in 6.3 to 7.0 in war thunder 10km/h

the tiger h1 that i have is basically a really big TD im pissed that unless you angle it and basically play as a damn m10 its useless AND EXPENSIVE AS HELL TO FIX literally 2.4k lions VS Pzr IVH is 1.2k to repair, sure you dont get armor but the gun is really good if you can hide

actually i find regular IS-2 (5.7) to be a very satisfying tank to play. i mean yeah, reload is long, but it feels so great when you basically only need to hit anything out there and it blows up (exclude your usual bugThunder moments but it has little to do with the tank itself). in addition somewhat thin armor does deflect rounds (only if you dont expect it to), and reverse gear is surprisingly good for a russian tank
Some players, myself included like to use that very reactive reverse gear to drive backwards towards the enemy. People don't realize this, but the engine plate is 60mm thick and angled, so in once in a rare while you'll actually bounce a shot. And if you don't? Your engine gets damaged and your tank doesn't insta-explode because of the frontal fuel tanks not detonating. Is this risky? Yes. Is it better than being 1 shot from the front? Absolutely.
That reverse speed is good for most tanks in War Thunder TBH!
Or when you get up tiered and one shot by a king tiger
100mm D-10T is definitely an upgrade over 122mm D-25T and almost double RoF is excellent, but the lost of .50 cal is... ouch
However it’s not really noticeable as the ru .50 isn’t the best

@@robertharris6092 T34 LFP can't resist soviet 100mm APHE and it has giant muzzle brake you could target to disable its gun.
The loss of an unpennable upper and lower plate when slightly angled is also bad. This old IS2 chassis is garbage

I liked the old version of Vietnam, at least it was one of my favorite to use amphibs on, but then they made basically all water passable by every vehicle.
when it first got introduced i hated it so much along side red dessert but as time pass i found out i do way way much better with bigger maps for some reason and i 70% of the time get a nuke on them. but now they ruined this map to be so generic with less flank opportunities.. now i hate it so much.
Object 248 gun is very good with excellent penetration of 230mm and an ok reload speed of 11s. but it doesn't have a cremation level of TNT in its shell and it has a worse Angle pen. I will give this gun 10/8.
It has the shittiest shells out of all 100mms so it only has 218mms of pen buddy

Obj 248 has mechanical rammer that help push the round into the breech (like modern SPH) that’s why it have very short reload time than other 100mm gun armed Russian tank

2:12 Honestly it was better before. One of my favourite maps as long as it was 3 cap and o could avoid A. All the good sneaky places that were empty like the entire town part are guaranteed to have multiple people in which makes flanking or just getting to good positions so much harder.

I killed a Leo2 at 11.3 with one of these today. It wasn't even a side shot, I went through the drivers periscopes/turret ring when he was coming up the other side of a small slope. Somehow my turret bounced his dart, must have been a grazing shot.
In terms of the Vietnam map, I don't really mind it. Love it thematically and while from a gameplay standpoint it isn't great I still tend to have fun, somehow

I dunno why do so many people say the IS2 is bad but in my opinion its the best tank at 6.3 the IS2(1944) is my favorite i dont even complain when i get full uptiers since its so good.

I don't know if you've done a video on the su-57 half-track that Russia has
Russian tank design and British tank design didn't diverge until the 1970's, really. Both had the concept of heavily armed and armored tanks that would sit at key positions; take the brunt of the assault, and lighter, faster vehicles that would drive around, perform recon, and cover flanking actions in offense and defense.
So the medium tanks were meant to go in, find the enemy, radio it in, and the heavies were to be a final solution. Something so heavily armored that your average conscript would feel confident in defending the assault. That's where you get your IS-4, IS-7, T-10.
In a way, its BR is almost too high and the gun performance is unrealistically too good. Penetration seems higher than what I recall from the Soviet testing; shrapnel cone seems a bit narrow with too many fragments. It should be in the same BR as a normal Tiger with the short 8,8.

i use the 5.7 is2 in reverse, poitning the rear armor at the enemy with an angle, tigers struggle to pen and things that do pen will get stuck on the transmission and engine, i shall play this thing the same

So ig I'm the only one who plays the IS-2 aggressive... and does way too well. I think the main thing is positioning and honestly, German teams. I should die so much more in the IS-2 but I don't and end up getting 6+ kills and 1st place. Both IS-2s I have (the Russian ones) combined have 1000+ kills, mostly due to enemy players just being dumb. Though I will say sniping in the thing is good fun as well

Position of the cap points. They Norther part that was its own area separated from the map was removed and brought down to the swamps. I guess they were trying to condense the action a little.

The water modifier for speed is so retarded. 5mph is basically blazing fast in ankle water according to the sekret dukumens.

ASU-85 is like if you made the PT-76 worse but gave it a more powerful gun.
