In today's video I show you the trials and tribulations of the Sturmtiger.
The Sturmtiger is the reward for War Thunders 10th Birthday and although it's really fun to bonk another player, it has quite a bit of frustrations!

for the plane shot. without being able to go back an look at the in game replay but i think your shot was perfectly timed. I dont think gaijen has worked out all kinks with this beast yet to say the least
Gaijin didn't make the damage model very well, I hope they buff it, it needs to deal damage in a 50m radius or something, increasing the damage the closer u get to the center of the explosion

Gaijin has horrible ammo rack mechanics. Not only does Sturmtiger permanently have ammo in the barrel, even if you literally fired half a second prior, but BM-13N, BM-8-24, Calliope, and M26 T99 all deplete completely inverse of how the visual model shows it. Katyusha for example shoots from the top left first, and depletes left to right, top to bottom. The damage model depletes right to left, bottom to top. Don't even get me started on 15 cm Pz.W.42, it depletes the first set of ammo properly, but after it reloads the damage model for the ammo never moves to the turret; it stays in the hull, depleting front to back as you fire.
Actually in the Sturmtiger's case, the New Shell after firing resembles the first stage ammo.
You carry 14 Rounds: 12 in the ammo rack, 1 in the barrel and the last on the loading tray.
The one we see after firing resembles the shell that is loading from the tray into the barrel.
I know that is frustrating but thats how the ammo was "stored"
if u want realistic thing on that tank we can start fixing the reload time like 5 min to reload
Quite a lot of the armor isn’t really modeled. That ventilation hatch on the front right corner of the superstructure roof basically isn’t there, you can even place decorations inside of it. Just for once it’d be nice if Gaijin didn’t rush something…

I agree that maybe the ammo in the barrel should only be counted when you're roughly halfway through reloading
Strumtiger things?
1) It's so, so good as the guy backing up the one in front. Enemy turtles up in a chokepoint? Slap a round into the cover behind/next to it and watch them get wrecked. Capping a point? Yeet a round into the point. I've seen a cheeky person who apparently knew the ranges on a three-point battle, and as soon as the far point was being capped, he promptly chunked a doom barrel of boom over cover into the three tanks on said point, obliterating the place. Most of his shots were on scouted target positions and the like. I mean, you're a rolling artillery piece. Why push for frontline shots?
2) The barrel shot is a massive weak point, but exposing the lower front plate is too. This thing is surprisingly tough even taking many side/aft hits, and both protect you from the superexplodium front shots people have learned to pepper with machinegun fire. (See: Reasons not to be first in line). At ranges where MGs aren't a factor, Sturmtigers can be absolute pains to kill if your opponent is a wiggly boy between reloads and you can't get the lower plate. Plus, given the mega-HE round, you don't have to quite have someone looping you be directly in front of the gun! I've seen light tanks vaporize when the shot was about 45 degrees off the gun's centerline.
3) Why doesn't this round crater on impacts like many bombs? It was literally one of the big complaints Germans had for the weapon- the holes it made were tough not only for tanks to get through, but even infantry.

I like how it is possible to be hit by this shell and not die, and on the other hand I had a game earlier where a maus fired a 75mm HEAT into the gun mantlet of my super conqueror and overpressured my entire crew without even penetrating any armour.
I wonder if they did not have a reference sample for the audio so they were like fuck it no sound
What I'm taking away from this is; Tomorrow will be both hilarious and awful. (And I will be part of the problem 100%)
When my friends ask me why should they play WT ? I show them this video and say just watch the first minute.
and also, in arcade you dont have the aiming cross which makes it a nightmare to use against people that all do. oh and of course, everyone can see that there is a free kill button right on your nose.
My noob opinion on this would be:
lower br to 5.3~5.7
add some sick sound on the explosion, like that "EEEEEEEEEEEE" noise like in the movies when something exploded nearby
reduces reload to 40ish seconds with ace crew or remove the back shell that is right behind the barrel
change the mortar to be more like a plane bomb instead of regular HE with radius of destruction ~5m

Calliope does have a similar issue with being able to be machine gunned, its just not as big of a target and harder to reach the rounds.
It seems like they've nerfed overpressure to the point where it's doing very little, once again. Now, I understand that overpressure was probably broken for a bit there, but the real problem was their damage models and HE somehow penetrating things it just shouldn't pen. Instead of fixing that, they're nerfing HE based things again.
Look, I don't care who you are, if you got hit by this rocket in a WWII tank you would not be having a good time. buttoned up in a tank or not.
If you want realistic damage, we might as well add damage even for non-penetrating shells, as they also most of the time had spalling in the inside even without a perforation.
Basically if your tank has 80-90% of the penetration required for a certain armor plate , it will do spalling behind it, and shred the crew behind it.
I'm pretty sure that main gun is what Warhammer 40k's Demolisher Cannon is based off of.
This crossed with the Churchill AVRE, since that looks a lot like a Leman Russ
103 rd try. Please play the T80 and T28e in the USSR 2.3br, they're great fun and you have never done a video on both tanks.
Even with the ammo bug fixed this thing was never going to be good, it will always be a massive meme tank
I think the Brummbar is better because its still viable at quite a few BRs past it's own. Realistically you can use the Brummbar in the same line-up of this thing. If you can one shot mostly anything and in my experience you almost certainly can, then if you have the understanding and acceptance that if you see something too late, you're not bouncing anything and you're getting clapped now. Same mindset as the Puma 2.7 and M24 and everything that's fast with a low BR.
So gutted that I missed this beast!

i played 7 games in a row as soon as i got it, didnt die once and got at least 3 kills with it per game....until i was uptied to 7.3 (im now stuck here please help)

Use the gridsquares on the map (each is 500 meters on big map or 250 on small map) to get an accurate estimation to the enemy spawn adjust elevation and fire away...
If the flakbus has a rangefinder, this thing should need one too.

If the devs nerfed the reload of the Sturmtiger to a full 60 sec, and buffed the explosion radius and increased penetration to about 100-120mm then I would consider it at least close to real life effectiveness.
83mm is realistic tho. (250kg Bombs also have around 80mm) , and we are talking about RHA Steel here... this was intended for Brick and concrete buildings, which are all brittle... what kills is the pressure. But everything has ti be simplified because you sure wouldn't want to wait hours for gaijin servers to perfectly simulate what would happen in real life
As a "new" player who plays germany and frequently is no kills 3 deaths, I'd say the main thing is map knowledge and actually being able to see. 95% of the time I am never even aware of what gets me. I've tried to go more off of sound like it appears you do, but my game's sound is all over the place. Some machine guns sound louder than anything else, planes far away sound louder than tanks beside you, and my own engine sounds like it's coming from places other than my tank sometimes. It's all very very confusing for new players.
Make sure to turn down your own engine sounds in the options.
And yes WT's sound engine is TERRIBE lol

The ammo staying in after shooting is a shared problem with the m901. When it shoots its first atgm, it disappears from the tube and can't be ammo racked, however when you shoot the second one, it not only doesn't go away, but the first one instantly respawns. That thing gets ammo racked non stop.
Also for the Marder's atgm. Hell you can be out of missiles and .50cals to the empty missile tube will kill you.
That isn't even close to the worst of gaijin's ammo damage models, BM-13N, BM-8-24, Calliope, and M26 T99 all deplete completely inverse of how the visual model shows it. Honestly I’m just disappointed that this thing doesn’t explode with the force of a massive bomb, this thing holds nearly 2 tons in HE filler alone and if all of that was to go up it should absolutely wipe a whole grid square of the map, I mean it’s understandable why it shouldn’t have the ability to kill your whole team at the start of a match but still.
Lol it should atleast be guaranteed to have the MASSIVE cookoff animation you see sometimes with the gigantic explosion
