    Jessica, Wahoo! They all look fantastic. I love how u did that suit case n the gray stripes really gives it some personality, so cute ( got to get me that gray paint u used) The chair. What a great idea using that shirt for making a pillow. I’m sure after u took off the cane from the chair u placed a piece of board at the hole so no one would get their hiney stuck in it 😊. Ok, now I’ve got to be on the hunt for an old suitcase cuz I have one those folding things that r used for them.

    Charcoal briquettes, with out the quick light, work well to absorb the moisture and mildew smell from suitcases also opening it up and leaving it in the direct sunlight helps. I do the sun first and then put the charcoal in and change it every day for the first two days and then if it still smells then do sun again and then put charcoal in and leave it for a few more days. Then it should be gone but i also put a few dryer sheets in it when I'm done especially if i put clothes in it.

    What did you do to the seat of the chair to replace the cane? Just curious. I have one as well with slightly damaged cane. They sell pressed seats through Home Depot, I believe, in various patterns that you can stain or paint. They have several designs to choose from. Liked your items very much. You could also have papered the inside of the suitcase or used a fabric liner, but you would have had to sanitize it. You can still do that if you choose. You're correct. Paint does remove stale odors very well. Thank you. I thoroughly enjoy your videos.

    In case you didn't, I would advise leaving things like suitcases purchased from thrift stores, outdoors for a few days due to possible bed bugs.
    Also, if there was mildew on the inside of the suitcase, it will eventually bleed through the paint, should always use a mildew killer first.
    Having said that, love the ideas! I want a chair exactly like that without the bottom, to use as a planter chair outside!

    I actually am looking at the paneling behind you and was wondering if you painted it. If so, what kind of paint did you use? I have real wood paneling, not panel board, you know there’s a big difference. I have some ideas of my own, but would like to know what you did. Thank you for your input. 😊

    • @TheRetroFarmhouse
      @TheRetroFarmhouse  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi! So when we moved in it was a dark brown paneling from the 70s. And it’s the board kind. I first had to use kilz paint primer to avoid any bleed through. It’s is really smelly though so if you use that just make sure you are able to open windows to ventilate the area. Then I put two coats of behr brand paint over that in a satin finish. The color is called skaters pond. It’s a white but has a slight bluish tint.

    • @holly5791
      @holly5791 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you so much! I thought about the Kilz, stinky as it is, I keep it in stock, because that’s all you can use on some things. I wasn’t sure about paint, though. It’s always good to be able to ask someone who had a good result... and yours does look good. Thanks again, I enjoy your videos. 😊👍🏻

    • @TheRetroFarmhouse

      Good Question. I think it works really well. It's thick and sometimes I feel it goes on better. You will always have some see through when applying the first coat with any white, which is usually why it takes two coats. Mostly for me also is that I I do Amazon Prime a lot so it is more convenient for me to purchase then going to a store. And I can get it in the larger bottles. Thanks for watching!
