Haven’t ridden a bike in fifty years. Your videos inspired me to purchase a foldable bike to add to my daily walking routine. I am now reliving the fun I had when I was a kid. Thank you.
I have a folding bike and your channel is one of the few that are still highlighting this segment of the bike population. Nice work and great reviews! A lot of work goes into the vids and its appreciated.
After 5 years of riding my Dahon Eezz D3 to work it had a frame failure and is now finished. My friend who bought a Zizzo Forte 2 years ago on my suggestion sold me his bike. He never rode it and it was in perfect condition. I paid $250 for it and felt good about it. I have to say having riden every high end folding bike that the Zizzo frame is as solid as any on the market. Yesterday I took it out on a rough gravel road with my wife on her BMC full suspension mountain bike and I can't believe how well the Zizzo road. The bike was amazing. I can not say enough about the frame and how much it took and not a creak. Most folding bikes would be making creaking sounds or would have come apart but not the Zizzo. Now the drive train is cheap and is passable at best but the frame is first class. I can't see making upgrades to this bike as it's only going to be used for a short ride to work. I don't like to leave my Brompton or Moulton outside all day as I can't bring them inside but this bike will fit my needs well. I wish Zizzo would just sell the frame and you could build one up with high quality components and I think you could have a great folding bike.
Hi Brian - i just bought a Zizzo Urbano just because it fit my budget. I passed on the Forte after watching your video when you first bought it and mentioned the derailleur sucked. Your videos are awesome and informative on how to get around on a folding bike. I’ll be looking out for that video of your forte once you’re done with it. I too would like to take my Urbano out camping with me.
Your tires, with sealant, won't resist punctures but once the tube is punctured, it will leak sealant and then harden, sealing the puncture. However, you will have to reinflate your wheel at least twice before the sealant hardens. I currently have right around 40 bicycles so I have my share of flats. Most of my bikes are throw aways, rebuilt and used on rotation.
Good to see work in progress Forte back on the road Brian. Your stores are well stocked and BIG compared to UK. Look forward to future vlogs on your trails. Stay safe out there 🚲🇬🇧👍
Try the Big Apple tiers, they are on my Tern Link D 8. Haven't got any flats yet. Plus they really hold the air pressure for a long time. Thanks for the video Brian.
Those ortlieb bags are great though, I have a set of them on my commuter bike and everything inside stays bone dry. No messing about with those little elastic rain covers that barely work like on my old panniers.
You have helped me tremendously with my 4 day ole Forte! Now I know what to do to stop the same problems you were having. I am a little unlear about what bottom bracket to purchase. I did see a 58 T chain ring I want however. If y9ou could share exactly what bottom bracket I should order I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you very much!!
It’s been a while and I had to get several bottom brackets and pick the one that worked. You just need one that’s more narrow the the factory one. I’ll see if I can find out which one I used and get back with you..
You crack me up! What is the seat post clamp that’s on your Zizzo? I’m looking for one to put on my over 10-year-old Dahon bike. It would really help if you listed the items you bought & used.
I am "amazed" by your riding almost anywhere, but the US isn't my home, Denmark, where we have proper passes for riding a bike/many bikes, out of reach for both cars and walkers, hopefully not hitting any of those during crossings or turns!
I upgraded my derailleur to a Shimano Altus. Not much of a jump but it shifts much smoother now. I also put a set of triggers on it and I love it. It shifts smooth and fast with no skipping so far. I plan on upgrading more things as I go along. I love the frame and the fact that it folds so I’m sold on the Forte.
Good to hear you worked stuff out. I got a pack/pannier convertible from amazon for my spare water and general kit. I have to put it on the left, because it drops into the derailleur on the right. Going to pick up a derailleur protector bracket to solve that. Also thinking of one of those aftermarket front rack kits. Take as much advantage of that weight capacity.
That panniers brand it's very good.I've a couple of that bags brand and they are lasting 10years using almost every day.Waterproof system in them it's very good.Mine were not cheap either 10 years ago.
I have the Liberte.....I too want to go a little bit faster in the flats (I live in South Florida).....There is one big bridge where I ride and the wind can make for different gears. So I want to replace the chainring and also replace the tires from 1.5 to 1.125 or 1 inchers that offer better puncture protection which would reduce the speed a bit further. I was thinking of a 52 or 54 and keeping as much eqipment stock as possible for now. The Altus 8 speed has decent shifting, so I think is a definite improvement over a Tourney, but I understand that a 10 speed cassette would be a possibility as far as the space required. Of course this would require a different shifter and derailleur as well so that could be a future possibility.
That is why i build up my Birdy-bad roads all around........ BUT the Birdy is like a Fully-it takes away all these bumps and holes! Also i put horns on the bar to have different possibilities to grab it. It’s an exceptional bike right now although for distances above 20km i will always use my race bikes! 🤙🍀
Brian, thanks for another great video. I can't exactly see which derailleur you choose. It looks like a Mezzo Microshift rd-m36l? That's rated for a 8/9 speed, but the bike is a 7 speed. I'm relatively new to this, so can you confirm which derailleur you chose, and if there's another one you would recommend for this bike to pull about 100 pound trailer?
Hey Brian. Awesome video! So far my drive train is performing well. For us 60+ age occasional riders, do a video and show us how to convert the folding Forte to a front hub drive ebike! I need some help getting up hills and longer distances when we travel with our bikes.
Great Video Brian! I have the Zizzo Trunk Bag with panniers ($50). My forte's derailleur works well after adjustment. It is a fun bike to ride. Thanks for your informative videos.
Thanks Brian, that was a really interesting video. I was struck by you mentioning how the brompton can wear you down if you spend a few hours riding over bad quality roads. I got an electric brompton recently (I gave up my car recently as I retired and moved onto a boat), and although I am very very impressed by the quality and the small size it folds down into, I have to admit that the ride is a bit skittish at times. Unfortunately I have to ride some muddy tracks and poor quality country lanes at times, and my folding MTB feels much safer in those conditions, with its 2 inch wide tyres and its suspension. That's not a criticism of the brompton at all- its a brilliant design, but maybe not intended for muddy tracks. So my new idea for an all round compromise bike is the Tern BYB P8. It has 20 inch wheels, and you can source wider tyres for it, but most importantly it folds down to a smaller size than any other 20 inch bike, so it will go onto trains and into stores with few issues, and it even has a roller wheel so you can push it around when folded. It looks like a fantastic bike and I think may be a bit more suitable for rural trails and roads, but in my case I want an ebike, so unless I can find a suitable conversion kit, I'll be sticking with the brompton for the time being, although I will also be keeping the MTB for when conditions are wet and muddy.
That happened to me too. I ordered a black and white folding bike lock and got a black and red one instead. I decided to keep it since it matches the red on my disc brake caliper and handlebar phone mount red silicone part.
Nice video. I got my own 3sixty (Brompton Clone) bike and I am enjoying it :) Even if there is not brompton in this video, I watched start to end xDD Great video!
I need to do the same upgrade on my Zizzo Forte as Bryan did. I'm new, so to do this I need the exact detail of copied sizes, brands, and where to buy to duplicate what works. I am willing to replace whatever on my bike. I live in very hilly and steep environment
Thanks for another interesting video. I want to know what you think of the Polygon folding bikes. My Polygon Siskiu T7 trail bike is a great value and I wonder if Polygon's folding bikes are too.
Great video man! Wanted to ask: I feel a click under my left pedal when Im pedaling on my new urbano that started recently and didnt have before but I notice that it started after the pedal bit the inside of my thumb when I was unfolding it lol ouch, Would you know where its coming from? Im in love with the bike but that click is annoying. Thanks in advance
Really great video...as usual! Two questions: 1) What brand and type of tires will you eventually get as replacements? 2) Any suggestions/instructions for modifying the Zizzo from 7-speed to single speed? Thanks for sharing your videos!
*My bike was having shifting problems too, phantom shifting, gear slipping, etc. So I hopped on ebay and won in an auction a shimano deore XT RD. Removed the crappy tourney RD, installed the deore XT RD and bike shifted alot better but still not perfect so I hopped on ebay again and ordered a Jagwire shift cable kit. Replaced the shift cable and housing with the jagwire and now this bike shifts like butter, every gear hits as soon as I click the shifter and no more jumping out of gear. Long story short, always check/ replace your shifter cable/ housing if you're having shift problems and Jagwire cables are very good quality.*
Another great video Brian. Thank you :-) Ortleib are great bags but soooo expensive. I think they are quality but I am certain you are paying for the name too. I have an Ortleib O bag on my Brompton. It's really good quality but I bought a clean second hand one as the new price was crazy. You will enjoy those panniers though!
I just got a Zizzo Forte!! Seems like a good bike, only folder I could find for my weight (260). Haven’t had any skipping on the derailleur yet, will be swapping it out if any issues, per your advice. Definitely looking forward to seeing bike camping, sounds like a blast!!
If we replace only the derailleur w/ a Microshift RD-M36L, does it matter that that is described as an 8/9 speed device and the bike, stock, is 7 speed. Thanking you in advance for your help.
It's better to get the 7/8 speed derailleur.. You can use an 8/9 speed I guess if the limit screws can adjust enough to lock out the extra travel you don't need.
Love your videos. Lots of information and accurate facts. I have a question. I have a great 29" mountain bike, but I will not have room to have it in our new much smaller place. I am looking to buy a folding bike. I'm around 235lb. and I need a strong bike that I can ride and use to carry groceries and instruments. We will not have a car. I have checked out both the Zizzo Forte and the Dahon Hit. Both would work, but which would you choose? Anyone can answer!! Thank you.
I've carried a ton of stuff on my forte. The forte has a 300 lb load limit so you have some room to carry more of a load. I also have a trailer hitch on mine for increased carry capacity. I have no experience with the dahon hit so I can't be much help in comparing the two bikes.
And using chain gears (My elderly, but absolute Top Lightweight MTB, with a full XTR set of gears, disc brakes and wheels, Carbon bike has 33 gears), don't let the chain cross over from small gears to larger, as it will not function! Try to keep the chain in line, and just chose the limits in front, and then the outside or inside gears in the back. Finn. Denmark
When you do eventually change your tire can you please list the name and model in one of your upcoming videos? I just got a Zizzo Urbano and during my first ride out with it, I got a nail stuck in the tire. So if I can't repair it I'm looking to get a better tire, I don't mind spending more.
I went through 9 miles ride from one open space park to another open space park back to back with a total of 18 plus miles through dirt and rocks on a trail, and my tires seem to hold up very well. So this is my third ride from Bayland Park in Sunnyvale, CA, to Mountain View Shoreline Park in Mountain View, CA, near the San Francisco Bay Area ocean. I recently bought Zizzo Urbano thanks to this channel since I was looking for a folding bike that can go off road.
Hi , thanks for the very informative opinion and advice you are sharing on forte, definitely make me understand more about it. I bought because of the load capacity too which stands out from the other foldies. After watching this video, feel like changing all parts except for the frame. I am a beginner on bikes actually and would like to ask whether forte can have a 451 wheelset too? The front fork looked just enough for 20 inches though.. or do I have to change the fork as well in order to fit a bigger wheel? Thk u..
Great to hear that there are so many urbano bikers here too. Thanks for info, Brian. I am also looking for chrome crank and chain ring 62T. You might want to consider brooks B17 carved black saddle and brooks leather grips 130/100. Because that's what I am going to do for my urbano. Black/white/chromy feel... For front/saddle bags, get from zizzo. Theirs are waterproof and pretty affordable. I am also buying routewerkz bag which they had a good bike mount for bag removal and it's pretty nice and spacious, since they used to be from backers program. BTW can u list down where u get 62T chain ring, narrower bottom bracket and chromy crank? I am from Singapore and so they have online store? Cant wait to get those too to complete my bike. Cheers!
You should try using slime tubes. Not exactly tubeless but at least you have sealant inside your tubes just in case. Oh, I see a few minutes in you thought just that.
Thank you for your reviews. I’m just all up in arms right now trying to decide what the next folding bike is going to be and not spending all my money and certainly not going into debt over it. Brompton, Bike Friday, Dahon, Tern, …, ? Hard to decide. I’m looking at the Zizzo Forte. I’m sure I will eventually have to do the upgrades you talked about in your videos. Could you list the upgrades you made (actual parts and brands) in the drive-train and approximate costs, value - added to the bike. The Forte. Patrick 😊
Hi. Nice video! Hope you see my late comment. I really need your advice, please: 1. Could you recommend to me which derailer replacement and tire replacements to buy (note--I sadly weigh 250 lbs. and know nothing about bikes). 2. Could you please provide the name/model number of the Ortlieb panniers you bought? I couldn't find the bike packing set online at REI. Sorry for the bother.
@@ibikeunfolded Great Just got the Forte yesterday. True commuter bike for me. Upgrading tires next week. Would like Derailleur upgrade recommendation. Thanks, Will be looking for detailed list in new video.
Hmmm I have a Brompton but so scared of riding it to work as I can't keep it within eyes view at all times and have to chain/lock it up. (not in public) but finding the Brompton expensive! £275 for a service each year in UK.
Cool video, Brian. I have almost some bike rebuilding projects. But what kind of helmet do you wear? I am searching for something like this. Is it worth it?
Yes, several. I am planning on doing a pikes peak ride soon. I am planning a couple of camping trips in the back country, and hopefully a trip to Montana soon.😀👍
Hi Brian. It’s Will from Chicago. I have a question regarding the alignment and routing of the chain between the chain ring and cog. You mentioned the need to install a narrower BB. If I understand what happened, your new chain ring is flat, while the original ring is convex. Therefore the chain’s alignment between the cog and new ring created too much of an angle. What is the ideal sprocket to evaluate this alignment with the chain ring? I’m guessing a straight alignment with a sprocket closest to the center of the cog is best, thus minimizing the chain’s angle when using the + or ~ outermost sprockets. Am I thinking about this correctly? If I’m not, could you kindly tell me which sprocket to test, and the logic behind using that sprocket? I hope I’m explaining my question well enough to follow. I enjoy your videos and look forward to your response.
I mounted a small 15€ front rack to my folding bike. An now i can carry 8kg. I don't like the back racks on the folding bike because I hit the bags with my shoes.
Update on my Zizzo Forte, the drivetrain is low quality shit. Everything else seems to be pretty good but it doesn’t shift for shit. It clicks into gear buts it’s slightly out. Also, it jumps teeth when I’m pedaling. I just bought an E-bike so my Forte is going to sit until I can get some upgrades and a good set up. Im sure it can be a great bike after some good upgrades.
You don't seem to wear many bright clothes or buy brightly colored items for your bikes. Is that by choice or is there limited resources at the shops? Color is safety, isn't it?
Haven’t ridden a bike in fifty years. Your videos inspired me to purchase a foldable bike to add to my daily walking routine. I am now reliving the fun I had when I was a kid. Thank you.
I have a folding bike and your channel is one of the few that are still highlighting this segment of the bike population. Nice work and great reviews! A lot of work goes into the vids and its appreciated.
I love folding bikes, they’re perfect for urban living

Nice ortlieb bags. Look forward to a long-term, well used review in the future.
I have a Zizzo bike I ride daily and love it.
I have 3 and they are great little folding bikes….

Hi, can you do a vd on shifting gears on the Brompton, when to peddle when not to; no peddling on right shifter and peddle on left shifter?
I’ll see what I can do👍
Okay, do what we can, is all we can do.
wish we had more bike shops in my area, most of mine are an hour away. Got 2 about 25 mins away
Brian, love your channel. Just a suggestion, you can get the same quality of bag on Amazon for half of what you paid for.

Thanks for another interesting video. I want to know what you think of the Polygon folding bikes. My Polygon Siskiu T7 trail bike is a great value and I wonder if Polygon's folding bikes are too.
The culprit is likely the cassette. There is a recall the Sugek cs-m3007 cassette that the bike ships with. May or maynot apply to Zizzos.

Great video. What’s the size of those panniers?
that 110 bcd 64t chainring is a challenge to find it must be rare
The chainring is a 60 tooth 110 Vuelta. “yes” they are a little difficult to come by.
*My bike was having shifting problems too, phantom shifting, gear slipping, etc. So I hopped on ebay and won in an auction a shimano deore XT RD. I have a forte and I am having trouble with my tires what brand/model tire did you use?
The pavement trail reminded me of the South Bay Area here in California in Santa Clara, CA, Mountain View, CA, and San Jose, CA.
Does the Zizzo Forte 2023 satisfy the Zizzo Forte drive train shortcomings you discovered?
What was the chain ring size and cassette sizes u changed it to ? And the derailer if possible
I've had really good luck with my Schwalbe Big Apples on my 20in bike out here in Arvada fwiw.
Brian, what model of Microshift derailleur did you put on your Forte?
11:58 You can just paint the cranks black. :P

Have you heard of the Swytch conversion electric bike kit for Brompton?
When you gear up these zizzo bikes as you do with a 58 or 60 tooth front chain ring, do you have to lengthen the chain?
Ever thought about electrifying one of your Bromptons for the delivery service?
Nope. I will stick with regular pedal power😀
it's about damn time.
When you do eventually change your tire can you please list the name and model in one of your upcoming videos? I just got a Zizzo Urbano and during my first ride out with it, I got a nail stuck in the tire. So if I can't repair it I'm looking to get a better tire, I don't mind spending more.
20in i would suggest Schwalbe Marathon +. The plus is the protection belt.
@@9canadianboy Thank you. What I read its very well made tire.
Schwalbe marathon plus city type smartguard don't have 2.0" x 20" Tyre. Disappointed.
@@dlorion1377 The 1.75 with the plus is close to a 2.0 on regular tires.
Cheers!
Was that Keith Richards in the bike shop?!
You should try using slime tubes. Not exactly tubeless but at least you have sealant inside your tubes just in case. Oh, I see a few minutes in you thought just that.
what size bottom bracket did you use?
What's your opinion of the Dahon Vitesse 3 Spd Sturmy Archer I have an opportunity to by one locally. I think it's a 2013
Thank you for your reviews.
The Forte.
Patrick 😊
Thank you for the videos. Just curious what is the small screen on your handlebars? It doesn’t look like a phone. Thanks
It's a Garmin GPS😀
Hi.
Part list of upgrades please
I have more upgrades that I have done and will be making an update video soon.
Where is the Zizzo made?
Probably china. They are headquartered in California.
could you please put links for the items you purchused?
Cool video, Brian.
I have almost some bike rebuilding projects.
But what kind of helmet do you wear?
I am searching for something like this. Is it worth it?
I paid like 65-70 dollars for it. The helmet is a Bern Macon. I like it because it's simple looking and comfortable😀
@@ibikeunfolded Thank you👍👍
I don’t understand the disruption of Brompton parts. The US Brompton store has almost nothing available, but the German store has lots of stuff.
Have you any plans for an adventure that you might film.
Yes, several. I am planning on doing a pikes peak ride soon. I am planning a couple of camping trips in the back country, and hopefully a trip to Montana soon.😀👍
Is it cramped in the cockpit? How tall are you?
Brian, you ride a lot of folded bikes. Can I ask you a question? Are the width of handlebars all the same?
Update on my Zizzo Forte, the drivetrain is low quality shit. Everything else seems to be pretty good but it doesn’t shift for shit. It clicks into gear buts it’s slightly out. Also, it jumps teeth when I’m pedaling. I just bought an E-bike so my Forte is going to sit until I can get some upgrades and a good set up. Im sure it can be a great bike after some good upgrades.
lol the bike has their website address on the frame to advertised.
Don't understand why more people don't use tire liners. You can roll over a tack with them and it wont puncture the tube.
You don't seem to wear many bright clothes or buy brightly colored items for your bikes. Is that by choice or is there limited resources at the shops? Color is safety, isn't it?
Btw. Subscribed
Thank you, I appreciate that.
Have you used your bike yet? If so, what is your experience?
WHERE IS THE CHPT3 update?!!!
You mean to tell me you don’t carry any tubes or patches
Drink everytime “Here’s the thing guys”
I’m not going to be responsible for your alcohol related hospitalization😀
I noticed nobody is wearing any covid protection.
