Thank you to all the TF2 peeps for checking out this and the last video I made on the game. I don't make videos on JUST TF2, so I hope you all check out my other videos.
And while I'm done with TF2 stuff for now, I'll definitely return to Source games in the future, maybe even TF2 for another tour.
    Peace. ✌

district is basically kong king but a passtime map, so there is another map that goes for a city aesthetic
also i gues mvms mannhatan counts too, since its a warehouse in the outskirts of a city

Your reviews of certain elements of video games are very well done... You explore every aspect of a game's design in a way that is so stress relieving. If I've had a tough day, I know I can pop on any of your videos and just chillax. The way you review these different mechanics and locations is very calming.
I think you deserve much more recognition for all the videos you make!
(PS, would love to see a part 2 to this where perhaps there's more community made maps)

I love loading into these maps from the console and just embracing the atmosphere. The art style of this game is easily ignored during chaotic team fights, but when experienced alone with no danger, they're genuinely beautiful and give a strange sense of loneliness and nostalgia.

It's great for ninjaneering, because a RED engie can set up an exit there. Since there's a direct line-of-sight from the second point, it's easy to see if it's about to be overrun (and/or have a fellow engie Wrangle a few rockets into that doorway). BLU has to set up their tele in the other little nook in that building to avoid said Wrangling, and with no metal spawning back there it's not something they'd think to check when rushing to set up.

14:45 is one of the best spots to take and place teleporters as BLU, because is protected, so hard to take down from far away but close to thie point with two exits, one very useful for demos and soldiers, other for heavies a d pyros. If you manage to take this section, put a sentry portecting the tele, and the dispenser next to the largest group of teammates, you have a unflankeable spot. The only way to take down everything here is by Uber.

While there are other maps that I think are 'prettier', like Hydro or Well, I definitely believe 2Fort to be the perfect culmination of TF2's art style and genre; the stark visual differences between the RED and BLU bases that are more than just texture-deep and the absurd contrast between the rural US exteriors and the '60s/'70s 'SpyTech' interiors is a level of stylistic complexity that I wish more maps strove for, especially newer ones.

14:50 That's the Rest stop, spies can uncloak here behind the attacking team, and medics can charge an Uber to advance to the point
It's a small hidden place mostly used to give an advantage to the smartest team, considering the last point is in front of the defending team's base, directly opposite is an extremely cramped staircase and room with a small overhang for snipers to use, or soldiers to rocket spam
It's extremely useful considering that the bridge is a choke point that makes the last stand so much more fun and stressful with the tight corridors and only one other viable path, which is under the bridge for the attacking team to flank

to be honest when im trying to practice rocket jumping un upward or badwater or any map i just have this feeling of dread that every corner thet i turn something is hiding behind me or watching me from a distance, take 2fort for example, in a normal match i dont feel any fear because theres the enemies the sentryes etc but when i just load up 2fort alone, it feels weird mostly in the intel room where its just small and the little ramp that you turn 3 times, every turn i just feel like some thing is in the other side, thats why i hate going in to maps alone, its just to silent and too weird even in gmod

this is a few months old now and I'm sure it's been mentioned but, rather than simply choosing not to put effort where it's not needed it's likely they put effort into removing as much as they could without compromising the map, for performance sake, they didn't choose not to bother with a wall on the barn or the backside of those hills but rather would have created the objects and removed what couldn't have been seen from what they decided was the playable area

I really liked the feel of this video. It's such a nice, relaxed and artful approach to... well, art. We usually take it for granted that there are artists behind our favorite locations in games. They express theirselves just like they would with a sculpture or a poem and you observing that is also one of my favorite things about gaming.

When you're talking about the spiral ramp around the 5 minute mark, there's a map for tf2 classic that pulls that exact trick you describe in the green base, though now trying to find a download link to share I'm coming up blank, but the map is called "ctf_4fort_blender"

The Dustbowl corner is actually awesome. That is, until you are playing engineer on the RED team and a BLU spy is trying to murder you. This is an awesome hiding spot for spies, mainly for those with deadringers because the decloaking sound usually cannot be heard over gunshots by the engineer above the stairs while he is defending the area. It serves a very good gameplay purpose and I use it quite often while playing spy, even though I very much main engi.

I feel mixed about being in tf2 maps, alone.
on one hand, its nice to discover little details the devs put into it, things you would never really see in absolute chaos.
on the other hand, it's lonely. the fact that you don't hear the occasional spy decloak, the faraway beeping of level 3 sentry, or the snipers saying "thanks mate." after each kill, really empathizes the fact that nobody is there. you are all alone, in this giant world. in 2fort, it's small while playing the map, with the war going on around you, it seems like such a small place, you and others are all hurrying to go from one place to another. but it's just you. all alone. seemingly, forever.
Loneliness has been a sad topic for me, as I often worry about being by myself. There's just something about people, that makes me want to just talk, sometimes for hours. I like meeting new strangers, and just talking about life and otherwise obscure topics. I dunno, perhaps this entire post was my sad side showing..
Thanks for reading all that, man. :)

I know what you mean. Playing maps with nobody in them is a rare occurrence. We experience these maps in the chaos of multiplayer and it's weird to be in one outside of that usual setting. There definitely is something "lonely" about being in a multiplayer map by yourself.

About 2fort: it does remind you that the game is set in the 60s and has a visible "Spy movie" inspiration. When you're playing, you just see those as... Well, maps. But once you look at what's actually there, you see the story behind the maps. You have ordinary looking places, probably fronts for a secret organisation. You venture deeper into them, perhaps sneaking in through the sewers. There, behind a locked safe door, there is an unexpected secret passage that takes you down to a secret underground base of operations for an intelligence network, where the briefcase you need to steal is. It's a secret agent story, and it's great.
You really should also look at the event versions of maps. ESPECIALLY 2fort_Invasion. Everything you loved about the map, is turned up to 11. Both teams handle aliens differently, with Blue doing a massive quarantine and Red.... Just kinda vibing and taking space crystals into the lab to work on them. Turns the map from just a spy movie, to a 60's cooky space invaders thriller

I did a video on the original Modern Warfare 2 before MW3 released some months ago. It was fun to return to that game after so long, and you're right. They put a LOT of work into those maps that you normally wouldn't notice running around like a chicken with its head cut off.

I suppose TF2 is no longer competitive in any way, so it wouldnt matter now, but 2 fort honestly was a great place for me when I wanted a friendly map to learn the absolute basics of a class. When I picked up sniper, I proceeded to spend hours and hours sitting on 2 fort fighting sniper duels and occasionally picking off people trying to get through the bridge. When I picked up spy, I got back on 2 fort and started doing everything I could to get Intel, using disguise and cloak and using sappers to mess up turrets, etc. When I picked up engi, 2 fort. When I picked up demo, 2 fort. When I picked up pyro, 2 fort! Basically 2 fort is a perfect map to spend your first 2-6 hours of a new class on.
