If Black Thought is not in your Top 5 as a lyricist then you should question your knowledge of hip-hop and definitely check this man's impressive resume of music. I'm 43 and I've been listening to bro since I was 14. The energy in this track is brave as hell! 🙏🏾😔 R.I.P MF DOOM.
Top 5 period. Him and DOOM
I had tickets to Roots and Beastie Boys back in 93 in Dallas but got in some trouble and was in juvenile detention the day of the show. I didn't know who the Roots were at the time but purchased do you want more album and was blown away. Really regret not seeing the Roots, Bestie Boys not so much.

Danger Mouse is Slept on As A Producer frfr 💯
The intro to DOOMS verse has the same rhyme scheme as in Great Day when he sets it up to make you think the next word is "bitches" but says booze instead, this time he ends it with bitch and says "I've alwasy wanted to say that". Actual genius, RIP The Villain

It’s that “Away from you” that sends me every time. Heard this while blazing up at the bus stop and a coffee shop was playing it in Vancouver Canada. Blessed to be able to listen to this art and even more blessings to MF DOOM. Even in paradise he’s giving us these lyrical gifts of life.

@@VietMonkeh Nemesis coffee off Haistings and Hamilton right across the Victory Square. Kinda close to Stadium Chinatown station if your taking the metro. @@kickemindafacestyleson6986 Lol you give me the same vibes as boomers complaining about "mumble (c)rap" on Facebook. Just this year, we got big name releases from Kendrick Lamar, Denzel Curry, Earl Sweatshirt, Conway the Machine, Benny the Butcher, Westside Gunn, Saba, Vince Staples, Pusha T, a posthumous album from Phife Dawg... That's not even including the more underground rappers who have similar styles discussing serious themes with incredible bars or the other big names who have released singles this year.
If you think hip hop needs saving just because subgenres of rap you don't like are popular on TikTok but you ignore all these big names releasing good shit, idk how to help you. Black Thought and DOOM are top 5 rappers but they aren't the only ones who can "save rap" - it's been "saved" by plenty of artists this year already.

Saltwater. But Doom beats Conaway.
I'm from Angola and I've always appreciated Black Thought's works and lyrics( I'm talking since about the 90's)...it is such an honor to know Black put my country's name in his lyrics but I get there's a place in US with the same name (think is a prison). This Man must be given his flowers while he's still alive. One of my favorites. And of course just remember, it's All CAPZ when you spell the villains name. ✊🏽 UBUNTU.
Beliza?
Yes, it was a reference to the prison in Louisiana, hence the use of the word "bars". I've always wondered why they chose to name it Angola, so now I'll have to research it. I know they've locked up a lot of Black men at that prison.
(Looked it up. Apparently the land was the site of a plantation and they named it Angola because a lot of the enslaved Africans and their descendants originated from there.)
It’s a prison in Louisiana, most of the slaves in that state were imported from Angola
Greetings from 🇰🇪 ✊🏾
Random but ive always thought yalls flag was weird.
That's 100% a verse Danger Mouse has held onto since DangerDoom. When DOOM mentioned Aqua Teen's broodwich, I smiled. Haha. I'm not mad at it, if anything, that's cool that there's still more DOOM material.

[Verse 1: Black Thought]
Yo, I'm sick, no lymph nodes is swollen
They told me even when the records skip, keep it rolling
On the shoulder like a California highway patrolman
Launch codes was stolen and sold by Ed Snowden
I fled to Rome and told 'em address me as a Roman
I'm still in photos, posted with my own omen
A thumping kicker for me to slam like Hulk Hogan
It's something like a plain bumper sticker, no slogan
This something for the shooters and back-and-forth commuters
Who never knew the difference in laws and jurisprudence
I feel as though it's safe to assume that to the students
And I can prove it to the way me and DOOM do this
You checking the top-two of a thousand intelligent chaps
With rap projects in housing developments
Cool the cross-legged on a crate like it's elegant
Try to hate, I'm puffing up your face like a pelican
Highly enveloped in, activating my melanin
Y'all failin' to see what's shaken besides gelatin
News bulletin, I refuse to take the medicine
Fuck a thick skin, I got me a exo-skeleton
The black Colin Farrell in The Lobster
That living like an obstetrician, but not a doctor
Bring the Cambridge, the Websters, the Oxfords
The picture too long to watch, see the synopsis
Compensated for playing nice, it's optics
Product of The Last Poets and The Watts Prophets
Ahk, stop it, it's beyond out-of-pocket
Donezo, I hit the gun show and got a rocket
Catastrophic, supreme microphoners
In Mexico, we the legendary dos cojones
Brothers, both components of the close to coldest
Court holders with bars as hard as Angola's
[Bridge]
Away from you
[Verse 2: MF DOOM]
DOOM get rude with the dude off chips
The mood switch, he chewed off strips of a Broodwich
Danger make him groove off a glitch
Made your boo booty twitch and the crew rich, bitch
Always wanted to say that
Ever since the days in hallways tauntin' a stray cat
The one he often frequently slapped around
All the while, waited then graduated, cap and gown
Hated the rap sound
Debated the crap until he felt he had it mapped out
Enough to have the game trapped and bound
Scratchin' the crown with the names of lames who yapped the noun
Or verb, for that matter
Had no data for a herb who chat chatter
Oh, Erik Estrada
Fat rat, the mask made him batty as a mad hatter
Known for his absurd word choices
And will ignore you if you ask him if he heard voices
Look, the energy is crazy
Far as he was concerned, the enemy was lazy
Ahem, your attention please
Freeze, he came to seize the free cheese
Before he flees to Belize
In case you forgot to mention, squeeze these
Just keep it on a need-to-know basis
They knew he was a negro, so no need to show faces
Back in the days of no laces
On a slow pace, they used to say he might could go places
Meh, whatever the case is
The card he played was ace of spades, but no races
A spastic, some call loony
When he spit a tomb sarcastic as Paul Mooney
