There should be a recall, this "latest technology in dishwasher filtration" = we put an ultra fine filter inside the pump that is not serviceable" so when it clogs and it will. It locks up the motor. Dont worry it will last just long enough that it is out of warranty.
7 or 8 years ago i bought a KitchenAid dishwasher in my old house, worked great, had a fine filter you just reach in and unscrew and clean out in your sink. Bought a new house 2 years ago put what i thought was the same dishwasher, but they changed the design. 2 weeks ago it stopped washing, took the pump apart, the fine filter was clogged, broke, and the plastic housing around the filter locked up the motor. $1000+ dishwasher in 2 years and i am buying parts for it. Disgusting.

I bought a different KitchenAid model with the old style screw out mesh filter for exactly this reason. You have to go look at them in person

Older models had a good grinder that could handle food waste. The new Maytag, as you note, puts a fine filter deep inside the machine. For most people this means a technician callout every six months (for people who don't prewash their dishes)

Is this the only filter the dishwasher has? My dishwasher is not smelling it’s best and was expecting there to be more of a filter than the tiny one. I’ve looked online but I’m not finding much so I just want to confirm. Thanks for your time! I hope someone has answers for me😋

I need to know this as well. It seems like there should be more to it than this lol

@@magreger There's a metal ultra-fine mesh filter inside the circulation pump. It requires removal of the dishwasher and then tilting the dishwasher on its side to remove the circulation pump. Once the circulation pump is removed, you need to take it apart to get to the mesh filter. After 2 years our circulation pump was complete full of gunk that would not release from the filter because of hair. We don't have a single animal in our house and yet tons of hair finds its way into the dishwasher and knots together with food particles to create a gunk that won't flush out when the dishwasher drains. This design is a failure waiting to happen.

@@magreger You need a dishwasher air gap. Google it. It will get rid of the smell. They would need to cut a hole on your counter top. It’s like an exhaust for your car but it’s for the dishwasher lol. I was quoted $120 for an install.

I literally took the inside apart and cleaned it. It does need regular maintenance. Then I cleaned with white vinegar and then with baking soda. I’m hoping that after these steps it stops smelling like fish😅

Did anybody figure out to take out the smell?
