Glad you got through that tough day. I love your bright and cheerful spirit.
I hiked UP that Osgood Trail up to Madison from Pinkham Notch. It was a killer!
Your survival skills kicked in, Stick, in what was becoming a dangerous situation. A second night out there and... I don't want to think about it. We had your back, as best we could, knowing you were in for a difficult passage between Washington and Madison Hut (tough trail, tough weather, possibly sprained ankle, waning daylight, difficult tenting opportunities, etc.) Quasimoto actually gave information to the Croo at Madison Hut which was relayed to EB at AMC. She was the overnight AMC S&R person to whom I gave an initial report with the details we had from your texts. She, in turn, made contact with Madison Hut to watch for you and alerted NH Fish and Game. By the next afternoon they were preparing to send out a search party just before you dragged your hypothermic self into Madison Hut. The Croo then contacted EB and she texted Steve and me you had arrived and that they were helping you with hot cocoa, soup, etc. It was one of the most welcome texts I'd ever received, my friend.
Thank you and to all the people that were in communication with eachother about Stick. And also the crew that made sure he was getting warmed up with hot soup and hot cocoa.
I very much appreciate knowing that you were watching out for me and that there would have been help on the way if I had not been able to make it out. I’m so glad that the weather broke for me to be able to make a dash those two miles over to Madison. Thank you for all you and Steve did to make sure I was safe.
Just love how you are still giving us all a small glimpse of Frizzle and Nick progress. Seems you have made some dear and close friends with them both.
I hope that I remain friends with them for life
You seem much more relaxed and seems your ankle is doing much better. I bet it wasn't easy to embrace the journey during the unexpected day you had. Im so glad you're able to continue on because of your smart thinking and knowing what to do in bad situations, knowledge is power.. It looked like a much better day with beautiful views and trails. Way to go🎉 Keep on pushing. Almost to Maine❤
Always remember to Embrace the journey, and happy trails❤
🤜🤛✌️🫶🙏🏼🙏🏼
I feel more relaxed too. I’m glad that you can notice it.
Way to hang in there, Stick the Eagle! You made some smart decisions in very precarious conditions. Nothing like learning the hard way! I also liked your “tips” in this episode. You might want to add how important it is to not underestimate the Presidentals, and assume your speed will likely be no more than half of normal. Also, it’s important not to spend too much time on top of Washington - your video gave that impression. Lastly, know where your bailout options are and when to use them. Looking forward to your coverage of the Wildcats, Carters, and Moriah!
Very good tips. I spent about 30-40 minutes on top of Washington; you are right; the time can get away quickly. I was considering at that point too whether I should take a shuttle down. At this point, I am happy that I didn’t. We came through with experience and a story to tell. But we try not to put ourselves in these positions if we can help it.
Speak it Stick! God is good!
Glad all is well!
What a difference a day makes!
Sooooo thankful for you, stick the Eagle! One step at a time is amazing advice for ANY undertaking ❤. I’m always impressed with how I can apply hiker knowledge to off trail life!
So true!
It's beautiful on a good weather day, but treacherous on a bad weather day! 😁. The Wildcats are rugged! But I guess everything from here on is, except maybe the last part of the 100-Mile Wilderness. Molly Rose Outdoors was just at the Barn Hostel a few days ago. It must be a popular spot!
Very popular. Almost too popular!
Made thru the president's Mt hurry for you! Keep on track . Happy trails!
I like to think your years of Scouting certainly helped in the situation you had found yourself in... being prepared (e.g. extra set of dry clothes), staying calm/not panicking and thinking outside the box (e.g. stakes not working, tie it to a tree)... so glad to see that this day was a better weather day to hike. I was a little surprise to see you didn't strap the wet clothes on the outside of your pack to help dry. Stay safe out there! Happy Trails! 👟🎒⛺️🌲🗻🙏💚
When I have strapped wet clothes to the outside of my pack, sometimes they get the clothes I’m wearing wet because they can flip around in wind.
I definitely agree that scouts helped prepare me for this experience!!
Thank you for the mozzie bracelet tip!
I will try it as they eat me alive here
I hope it works for you! I’m thanking three pointer and his wife for that tip myself!
Yessir Mr neibank !!!!!!!
I am so relieved you are doing better today. Yesterday was scary 😨.
Happy trails and remember to embrace the journey ❤
You are such a positive person! You will go far in life with that amazing attitude. 😊
Thank you so much!!
Keep it up! Glad your ankle is good. Take your time! Yea go back and get those 2 sections in! Hopefully in 2 years I’ll get to thru hike
Glad to hear the ankle is healing well. I've hiked Mt Washington from Pinkham notch 5 times, summiting twice. Two of the hikes were just to Tuckerman Ravine, once to watch a friend ski it, once for me to ski it. The other 3 times were hiking up Huntington Ravine. The one time I did that solo, I had to turn back on ice I just wasn't confident on solo with no protection, ropes, or technical ice gear, just a long hiking ice axe. The two other times, were with two friends, and with one friend. We made it to the summit, then descended through Tuckerman past the skiers, despite the part above Tuckerman being officially closed. There was no way we were descending Huntington, and sliding down the smooth snow fields above Tuckerman is always awesome, though you do need to know how to self arrest with an ice axe, and also to pick your way around the headwall/bergschrund at the top of Tuckerman.
One of the two times, the mountain kicked our butts pretty hard, we were lucky to get out safely. The next time, we felt like we really conquered the mountain. Mt Washington in snow/ice conditions is quick to punish mistakes. The only times I've been up there in summer, I just took the auto road, often with my kids. I've also watched the bicycle race and auto race a couple of times each. Those events are pretty fun, and pretty insane.
It’s pretty insane to think about hiking Mt Washington in winter! Wow! I’ll need to learn about ice axes at some point.

I do not know if it is the video but you appear to have gotten sun burned on your face. Maybe pickup some sun screen when you resupply.😊
