The funny thing is, I don't think Quark is kidding, it probably hurt him deeply losing a LOT of regular customers to the war. He grumbled about Starfleet sure, but as a "people person" the absence of those regular Starfleet officers coming through his door probably stung.

Quark genuinely seems like a good person when it matters, in both universes he risks execution to aid the downtrodden and actually gets executed by kira in the mirror universe for helping terrans to escape

Oh, Quark does have principles. And one of those principles is that its alright to rip off people he viciously hates. :D
He's a Ferengi, after all, and Ferengi tend to be very good at making business and personal morality work side by side.

@@jordanloux3883 I just wanna say for Quark, Armin Shimmerman is like a master of subtext, and he uses that so well with Quark. What Quark literally says often obfuscates his meaning. I remember that line "Good Customers are as rare as latinum - treasure them", and it was the episode where they thought Obrien and Bashir are dead. I remember it so distinctly because the way he delivers it really feels like he is genuinely sad that people he thinks of as friends may be gone. He's the only Ferengi who can somehow warp the rules of acquisition for good (like that one infamous monologue about "peace is profitable")

And the whole concept probably isnt widely known outside of Orion culture anyways, since no one on the Cerritos knew anything about it, so it might not've been in any of those bad holonovels he learned about the culture from.
With that said, if he ever visits Orion or does a deep dive into his culture, he's gonna be fucking terrified when he realizes who he insulted here.

@@MrHinchapelotas Interesting, but I don't see how this stops Tendi from being the one to save Quark. This could go one of two ways. First, Cincinatti boy talks a good pirate talk, but based on the way he panicked when the doos closed, he folds like wet cardboard while Tendi kicks ass and does the pirate thing and takes over the ship. Second, as the first but Cincinati eventually Orions up and contributes.
