@@spyrofan9681 It's because people think that medics and doctors are always on the up and up, and any hint of betrayal cuts much deeper when it comes from them. See people's rapidly growing distrust of doctors post 2020 as prime example.
Probably not. It's one thing to say your estranged from your family that's a litteral crime family before going into something like star fleet, its another to demonstrate said skill set and expect them to believe you don't maintain connections to said crime family.
Tendi is a prime example of being a goddamn badass when it's needed. It's impressive how much this show gives to its characters in just 25 minutes of runtime
The first thing one notices about Tendi is that she is super nice. The thing her friends know about is that she is choosing to be nice. Never mess with people who chose to be nice, because they can change their mind.
Tendi being raised by her father is probably why she has a nice soft side and joined star fleet. She probably never had a strong female figure when growing up. Orion culture is female dominated. Ruled by Pirate queens. The women control (by pheromones) and the men obey. However Orion women do sometimes put on a show when dealing with outsides to give the false impression that the men are dominant. This false impression maybe something that star fleet still believes in.
One of my favorite things from ENT, pulling a complete 180 on the "this entire culture is based on female enslavement" by making Orion females the dominant group in their society.
Yeah, she never had a strong female figure when growing up, she only has the title "Mistress of the Winter Constellation" and other Orions(who aren't family) bend over backwards to keep from pissing her off as pure coincidence. :)
When Worf gets adopted, he has some knowledge of his culture and his parents adapted to raise him. When this guy gets adopted by human parents, he acclimates to their culture and reads Orion Romance Novels to understand his culture. Short version: There is no comparison between the two characters, I just found it hilarious that this guy is all flash, and little to no substance!
It's shown a few times in TNG and DS9 that Worf's views of Klingon society and customs and whatnot are fairly idealized, while the reality of the Klingon Empire is a lot less honorable. I've seen speculation, and agree with it, that this is because Worf was raised with "textbook" Klingon knowledge, rather than living it. The viewer's knowledge of Orion culture isn't very fleshed out, this could be explained in Universe as the Syndicate not having close ties to the major powers, and as a result knowledge of their culture and traditions mostly come from accounts of aliens that have met with them, likely victims of Orion piracy. So the best source this guy had about his culture ends up being mostly trashy romance novels.
You can't say he's all flash and no substance when he made it into Star Fleet. Just that his flash is in Orion Piracy and his substance is in being a competent officer.
@@joeschembrie9450 We also know from LD Season 1's Ascension episode that it's hard for even compentant officers to stick out, so many lower deckers try to find some sort of "schtick", something memetic they can be referenced in shorthand with...like being "The Ascension Guy" or "The Orion Pirate" or half the things Boimler's tried and failed at...except for being known for the "Boimler Effect", that is...something that'll grab others attentions and get them noticed to help advance their career out of the Junior Officer ranks. Ironically, Mariner has been trying to do the opposite...she's been trying to avoid getting advanced past ensign, despite having a reputation for extreme competence...however, she also uses a gossipy bartender in the main lounge to spread misinformation about her service record, just to screw with others...
Probably felt she didn't have any other choice considering one of them actually tried to stop her from blowing the candles out because she was an idiot who valued her Seance more than having breathable air
Pulse Pistols (fires phaser bolts), yes. The TNG beam phaser, no. It doesn't just have a fixed 'kill' and 'stun' mode as other models do, it has a beam intensity setting. Putting it to the lowest setting is little more than a static shock, while the highest is disintegration. And its all one orange beam of various intensities depending on how high or low the beam has been set. It's actually the same tech as used in starship phaser arrays, just scaled down.
Yeah no, Orion's are NOT this. They pull off most of their piracy using trickery, surprise, and pheromone exploits their women possess. Unfortunately like most lower decks their work goes unappreciated
this does explain Tendi's actions in that black ops mission back in (I think) season 1
I just can't get over that Mariner stunned Jen and herself from THE SELFIE POSE!
"Just actualizing my intentions" as she phasers everyone in the room.. you get one chance in life to do something like that, and she made it count!!
I have concerns about Jennifer and the joy she finds in watching her partner render all her friends unconscious.
If there was no context, you would have stated that she beat them unconscious in front of her like a savage.
"friends"
Seen a couple people saying it's her "Andorian Sadism" coming through.
Personally I have concerns about people as mentally weak as Jennifer's friends in Starfleet
I thought it was kinda scummy for her to cheer as they were getting stunned. Why are they even your friends in the first place.
