  • Brick Circular Saw Restoration Video
    This is Hitachi circular saw for brick cutting. It is 100V50/60Hz 1050W, 11A, 9000/min circular saw. This saw is created in 2007. This saw works normal, but the gear housing is broken. I don't have enough tool to fix this problem, I sent it to the welder, but they can't fix it, they said it burn during the processing. I choose my the easy way to fix it, you can see in this video.
    If somebody know how to weld this type metal, Please guide me.
    I hope you find something useful & enjoy from this video!
    I am happy to receive your feedbacks, advices, suggestions to improve myself.
    !!! I apologize for the mistake if I have made in this restoration !!!
    --------------Thank you so much for Likes & Comments--------------

    Just goes to show that, in these days of planned obsolescence, nothing is really beyond repair. I would always only have a pile of parts with no way of remembering how they went back together if I attempted any of your refurbishings. Great work.

    Another great restoration, very enjoyable. To say it looked abused before you started is a massive understatement.
    You’ve achieved something not many do, you have created a community that sound like they are genuinely trying to help you. That is probably down to the hard work you put into these videos and the fact you seem to listen to this advice. Well done on both of those things, it shows great maturity and a desire to improve.
    Most of all, thank you for showing I’m not the only one who can’t saw a straight line!

    I wonder, did you search to see if you could have purchased a new housing? If they are no longer available, then I would try to either get someone to TIG weld it, or try some JB Weld to repair it. It is a pivot point and will cause issues down the road. However, thumbs up to the rest of the clean and repair...

  • @integral32gb
    @integral32gb 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    About the welding of the broken piece.
    1st you will need to find out if the part is aluminum or magnesium.
    You can do this with vinegar , clean the part down to the bare metal, then drip some vinegar onto the material. If there is a reaction and the metal starts bubbling and fizzing, then its magnesium, if not, its aluminium. Either way its die cast, which is hard to weld.
    You will need to go to a aircraft certified welder or to a techincal college and someone who teaches TIG welding. Even then they may not be able to weld it depends how much gas was trapped in the cast part as it was poured and cooled.

    I ordered an evolution-brand circular saw and received it with a crack roughly in the same place as this hitachi saw. In my case (as is most likely in your case) the material of the housing was clearly some sort of an aluminum alloy and I suspected that it was Al+Si alloy, since the housing was cast and very brittle. Luckily I also bought a TIG welder, so I ordered some 4047 TIG rod (the most Si content-rod that I could find (12%)) and without any practice in TIG welding fixed the housing. Sure the fix isn’t pretty, and I had to weld the housing 3 times (since after the 2 first fixes the saw was out of square), but the fixed part of the housing is stronger than the housing was initially, and the saw works 100%. Used about 15m of 1.6 TIG rod + 2pcs of 1.6 tungsten + 10l of argon. I don't know what's the problem with welding the housing in your case, since IMO if it’s metal and it’s not some sort of a space tech alloy, than you can weld it: you just need the right equipment.

    I just noticed the power cord was like less than a 1 ft long? I guess they assume that when you are on the job you will be running extension cords. I remember when you bought a computer you used to get an 8ft cord, now it's less than 6ft. JB weld would have done a better job and the part would never ever break off.
