- RARE Chainsaw Restoration :)
I hope you will enjoy this video, but first let me tell you something about this chainsaw.
I found it inside an old barn when cleaning out after my grandfather passed away.
And apparently it was at first purchased by my father's grandfather and used for a few years and when he passed away it was passed down to my father and then to me.
As you can see in the video i did a full restoration of the saw and managed to get it running again. :)
Below you have some technical info and the story of the brand "Companion"

Tandsbyns Mech. Verkstad & Co was started by the brothers Hugo and Sture Ericson in 1944. At first, mainly gas generators were manufactured. Hugo Ericson's experiment with natural gas-powered aircraft can be mentioned as a curiosity. Hugo, who was very interested in aviation, built several airplanes himself, one of which took off with a gas-powered engine. Tandsbyns Mech. Workshop began in 1946 when the demand for natural gas generators decreased to manufacture a boat engine called Delfin. The Delfin engine was produced until 1958 in 5 different versions with outputs from 1.7 hp to 8 hp.
Designers Hugo Ericson and Bengt Bister, who also held other patents, later constructed a clearing saw that was partly based on the Delfin 66. The prototype was produced in record time in just 18 days to be exhibited at a forestry fair in 1956. The clearing saws sold under the brand name Companion began sold to a customer in 1957. Clearing saws were now the company's dominant product.
The clearing saws were equipped with float carburetors, but membrane carburetors were available as an option. Tandsbyns Mech. Verkstad also sold water pumps that were powered by the brushcutter's motor unit.
Hugo Ericson and Bengt Bister also designed two chainsaw models for Tandsbyns Mek. Workshop, these were called the Companion chainsaw later Companion MS1 (=chainsaw type 1) and Companion MS2 (Type designation in trade 2-78). Chainsaw production reportedly started from the constructor in 1960 with the launch of the Companion (MS 1) chainsaw. In the autumn of 1960, around 10 test saws were first delivered. Series production and sales in larger numbers to customers started soon after.
Companion sold only through factory direct sales and had no resellers. In addition to normal piece sales, the Companion MS2 had the "twin purchase" option. Twin purchases included two chainsaws as well as the bar and chain for one saw. Package consisting of two drive units and a cutting equipment cost SEK 1290 plus VAT (Sept. 1966). The idea behind this was that if a drive unit broke, the bar and chain were moved and the broken one sent to the manufacturer in Tandsbyn Jämtland for repair.
Husqvarna Vapenfabriks AB bought the entire company in 1970 in order to gain greater manufacturing capacity and new knowledge regarding clearing saw manufacturing.
This is one of the most detailed engine disassembly I've ever seen.
Thank you! 😊
Then broaden your horizons lol
I have two old Companion saws sitting on Grandpa's old work bench in my barn (which once was his). He bought two complete overhaul kits back in the day and never got to do the work he planned. Your video has helped me get a good look see of what lay instore for me this winter when I rebuild them both.. Thank you..
Oh! Congratulations on having two 😊
Happy to hear my video helped you 😊👍
Ć
What kind of people are disliking this? Can´t understand it! Good Job, looks great!
Thank you sir! :)
Some people hit it by accident because it’s right next to the thumbs up. I know, I’ve done it before. Luckily I caught my mistake.
Beautiful restoration work! Although I know nothing about mechanics I love watching old machines being restored by an expert. Thank you.
Thank you for watching 😊🙏
It's very nice to see old school restoration skills. Beautiful work sir.
Thank you very much 😊
Finally from the comments this sounds like a real restoration, and not just a paint everything inside and out type of thing. I'm happy to watch a real chainsaw restoration for once on youtube.
After watching video.
Awesome!!! You did a great job!! Great video!! 😎👍
Thank you very much! 😊🙏🙏
Excellent, meticulous restoration.. thank you for letting us watch!
Thank you sir for watching 😊🙏
Old chainsaws are the best 😊
What amazing work you do, new subscriber now wish I had your talent for my 1947 British Columbia power saw!
Thank you so much! 😊
Oh, that saw sounds really cool! 👍😎
1961 Companion MS1 chainsaw, cool old saw that one and what a beautiful Resto job mate 👍
Thank you very much! And yes it’s a really cool chainsaw 😊
I love watching videos like this when they are done correctly. Great job, thanks for posting!
Thank you very much for watching 😊🙏

Tack för en fin demonstration. Companion tillverkades i Tandsbyn, Jämtland.
Love it. Awesome job. I have a very old rototiller that works like a charm but definitely needs some love like this.
Thank you! 😊 Restore it! 😉👌

Outstanding work. I subscribed,Liked and Shared. All my very best from Upper east Tennessee.
Thank you very much! 😊🙏
Thank you for all your comments 😊
Very nice job, I like the video editing as well.

Amazingly beautiful saw ready too work
Maybe I use it in an future video 😉
I like your Zinc plating method because I can resurrect old lawnmower mufflers that way.
I hope that you used a gasket material such as Kevlar for the cylinder head gasket which can withstand the heat !
Yes zink works great on mufflers 😊
For the cylinder head I used copper witch is original for this engine. 👍
Good jog bro keren 😁👏👍👍👍👍👍
Thank you 😊
