I work with one of the Big4 and we recieved a communication from our MD asking us to work 50 hours per week instead of 45. His justification is, you guys have to compensate non busy season with busy season. I couldn’t control my self to ask of he will be able to eat all 20 meals on 8th day since he did a fasting for 7 days. Highly unreasonable, todic and in human environment

He is one of the very few leaders who can actually talk to a common man and get down to his level and understand the situation and it's not easy. we are just running behind our demographies to exploit them, making them work for excessive hours..just to gain that extrat dividend in the future..
An employee in India is always looked upon if he is timely leaving his office. WHY???...
even the public sector banks are at same fate..they are working minimum 12 hours a day 7 days a week..
$ 50 trillion economy by 2047, and an equally unhealthy India by 2047 due to toxic work culture now.
immediate action should be taken in the PARLIAMENT..strict laws should be made against overtime..
9 hours of dedicated work is sufficient to make India a 50 trillion economy..those extra 3-4 hours are just greed of the top management...
    where is Narayan Murthy now...
And stop glorifying people who work for more than 12 hours a day that too 7 days a week...they are just robots with no personal life..

I have worked in a PSU for 20 yrs and another 18 yrs in Pvt and I wish there were so many opportunities available in Pvt as it is today when I started my career.
In the PSU every one in the same grade had the same salary. No body cared if you worked hard or worked less. If any promotion happened it was on seniority rather than your ability or merit.Every one gets paid at the end of the month. If there was an issue from the management regarding your work, there was always the trade union to take care of it.Hardly anybody resigned. And if there is a loss to the Company there was budgetary support from the Government.
But I was frustrated and resigned.
The Pressure of working in Pvt was immense. There was accountability on productivity and achievement of targets. The attrition levels were high. But if you can stand the pressure the financial rewards are also equally high. I and my family were able to have a better life. I have no regrets.
I wonder why this young lady did not walk away. Lots of people do. There is always a choice.

Now there will be politics on this. No parliamentarian is qualified enough to understand these issues. Off course raising this issue in parliament will only lead to pointing fingers at labour ministry. But nothing will come out of it. U have to increase supply of ca s and put minimum rates for services, press the institute for enhancing the quality of training.
But then industry will start shouting against such imposed rates which should always be market driven.
We will have to increase stress management strategies .
If at all the such lawmakers' intervention will have limited impact.
