I once was lucky enough to win a competition to meet the United team at Carrington. While nervously approaching some of the players to speak to them (Neville telling me and my other 11 year old friend to piss off), the two players who took the time to speak in depth with us were Fletcher and Ronaldo, Fletcher in particular. He asked me about my school, my hobbies, my favourite players, and took me to meet other players, all straight after his training and with no cameras around. A true legend
I've spoken with Darren on the phone at length following a long hospital stay, and he raised my spirits and gave me all the inspiration that I needed to get better when I needed it most. An absolute legend, and one of United's most underrated stars.
I was speaking to a Scottish friend years ago and I told him about Darren Fletcher is a really good Scottish footballer I think I’ve got a long way it’s just sad that illnesses got in the way
Absolute legend. He embodies what it means to be a professional footballer and a Manchester United player. Still wear my Fletcher 24 jersey from the 09/10 to this day.
Yea man, I also think Ji-Sung Park is similar as in quality players who were a huge part of the club success but who were out of the spotlight as much as others., Also it's a bit sad but Owen Hargreaves for that one season was so good for us. his injury problems are such a shame.
Colloquial Soliloquy I watched the pussy foot play for 10 years. Comparing him to Keane is embarrassing. I’ve got a stat that he made no assists or through balls in 26 games. He didn’t block, tackle, close down or run with the ball. He stole a career hiding behind Ronaldo, Vidic, Scholes and Rooney. When they left he got found out. Biggest fraud in English football.
Darren Fletcher is a true underrated Icon of football. To have been through everything and still be the ultimate professional. Was brilliant to have you at West Bromwich for a while, still gutted we didn't renew your contract.
I think the word "genius" might be a bit strong, dude. If they didn't bring him into the studio the mics wouldn't pick up his voice and we'd not be able to see him on the cameras.
I used to hate Fletcher starting for United at first then i realised how important he became for the team. Fergie was a true master. Also love him saying about Wazza being underappreciated and he was unselfish. So true
To be honest he looked like a liability at first that's until he scored that goal against Chelsea. Then out of nowhere he was instrumental especially in champions league games. He would apply pressure in the midfield and never stopped working.
The way Fletcher spoke about Roy Keane was fantastic. Shows what great character Darren Fletcher had. Some players could have taken Keane's comments on MUTV in different way and in my opinion it would have been understandable. It could be argued that Keane should have handled the situation differently because the interview was on a public forum. I mean Keane's comments back then (If reported correctly) weren't that bad, but to pour gasoline on fire wasn't the smartest thing. Keane was smart enough to know a struggling football team probably didn't need that kind of public stir at the time. Man United were going through a bad period at the time. And playing through a crippling illness, sidelined for a year and coming back to play some more winning yet more silverware. Even more than all that, he's a great human being, full of humility and pride.

He really was a really talented player. Thing is, I think he was dealing with a lota personal issues during a couple yrs @ Man U; something to do with the mafia in Bulgaria. Thing is people generally only see what's on the pitch since that's what we're exposed to but there's a ton going on behind the scenes in a lot of these players lives that affects em cuz i mean, at the end of the day, we're all human.

@@kingsizehomer exactly he was a hard worker, Manchester United don't need to sign big names and star players right now they need to be signing players with the same attitude as Fletcher
d d absolutely agree. John McGinn would be top of my list to sign a midfield 3 of him mctominnay and Fernandes would have the right mix of skill and hard graft.
Definitely twice on Sundays
Fantastic squad player, very underrated. Great personality.
Undervalued by the fans started slowly but grew into his position at MUFC. One of the good guys of football.
Top bloke. And a guality player, having players like him and Park doe example around the squad really helped United.
Darren Fletcher is such a legend. So humble, eloquent and determined.
Who wouldn't like to play with Ronaldo
What an absolute pleasure
I'm sure Ronaldo felt the same about Berbatov
@@berbasilk5906 Berbatov was an extremely talented footballer but so frustrating and inconsistent
Suraj's Opinion is Better how many accounts do you have
He really was a really talented player.
BIG Daz Fletcher was 1 of our most underrated players, absolute machine that ALWAYS did his job to the best of his ability. Humble and proud, quiet Legend no doubt!
After what he's gone through, he is a true legend!
What a top top bloke. Good to hear how he tackled adversity, I hope Darren has a great career in coaching.
Huge respect. Fantastic character and respectful interview.
He reminds me of my late Scottish dad... so humble and genuine. down to earth. seems a great fella
was a great top professional player,i remember his performance in champs league semi final against arsenal,10 out 10 performance that night,
Him and Park so underrated them 2 were there for a reason and they did the reason with all they had
Cristiano Ronaldo is such a brand that they have to use it for their title and the question about him came at the end of the video
Ronaldo is everything
What a compelling and determined individual, hats off to you Darren! A gifted footballer and a true professional, would do well at any club
21:26 is the ronaldo part, you can thank me later peeps but it’s a good interview overall nuff respect for Darren fletcher
What an absolute delight to see Darren fletcher talk about his life and life at Manchester United and saf love you Darren respect legend
Well spoken young man. Sounds like captain material IMHO.
i love that boy good head on his shoulders a good grounding from his parents growing up ,lived up to his huge potential as a kid .i watched him when he was 12 what a player
Fergie was so good with the use of Fletcher and Park Ji Sung!! He knew he had to sacrifice a "fancy" player against the big teams.
I always respected his work ethic and game intelligence but had no idea how much of a genuine, eloquent, humble legend he actually is!
Rooney is definitely very underrated. In my opinion the best 🏴 player i have ever seen . Numbers speak for themselves and his dedication on the field and for his team , the sacrifice , and his technical ability (natural talent ) WORLD ELITE PLAYER
Great man! Looking back, United fans took his presence for granted. But he gave his 100% every time. I still remember his insane volley against Everton. And his 2009/10 PFA team of the year appearance. Kudos to him for being strong and getting back from his illness. Must have been terrible. Will always love you, Fletch.
What a great guy. I'd like to see this fella have a go at management
Decent interview this. He feels like an honest person
Emotional watch this, what an absolute gentleman, deserved to win even more than he did, and his CV is still insanen
I would say this: seems a lot of players who played for fergie seem really intelligent and have a great attitude. It's clear he baught players in with a bit of personality
As a liverpool fan, I respect Darren and wish him all the best. He sounds like a very humble man and he is a nice person.
Even though Darren Fletcher has been brilliant in this episode, MNF isn't MNF without Gary Neville.
facts
Humble and respectful 🇬🇧
Darren Fletcher Football Genius!
I have a lot of respect for Fletcher after watching this. Great interview.
Should have been a United captain. True leader. Remember in 09/10 he dominated every single midfielder he came across that year.
Fair to say you never watched any football that season then....
Steega Steega Why are you acting like you did, your a 14 year old kid who only started watching football 2 years ago. Fletcher was a big game player during the 09/10 season; brilliant performances against AC Milan and Manchester City
BeastBOSS thank you
Real team player! Miss seeing this guy. Didnt get the recognition he deserved but watching this interview offers great insight into those early 2000s which were awesome for United.
Darren Fletcher is a true legend!
