      Arsenal fans keep claiming there the 3 rd most successful team in English football, which is fair enough. Yet Ryan Giggs alone won as many league titles in just 20 years, as they have in there entire history which is truly remarkable. And shows how much they dominated the league.

    I've watched this a few times, and I can't help just take from it, that Keane is not only extremely humble.... but his respect for other players as HUMANS, is amazing. He's spoken about taken advice and tips off senior players, when he was in his youth... and also he always talks about being a senior player, and having others take information from him. At 35 years old, the names of Hughes, Sharpe, Bruce etc.... it's great to see him remind me of how good they were. Whatever you think of his punditry, you can't deny he's so respectful about players HE'S played with, and also humble about his journey.

By the neutral Gerrard is considered the greatest, I believe. Maybe you say Keane cos you don’t want to seem biased towards Liverpool. Maybe Keane the bigger captain, the bigger ‘born winner’ but Gerrard was better at everything on the pitch, a proper box to box midfielder... some of his tackles, and his goals - oh boy! But Ince was such a great player. Amazed to see Keane pick him ahead of Scholes, who is one of my absolute heroes, but pleased too to see him respected.

  • @iownyou1559
    @iownyou1559 2 ปีที่แล้ว +18

    Roy talked about the character the most and football being priority irrespective of what else was happening around those players. At that time (even today) if you are at United, you definitely have players with skills and talent. It is how they keep their hunger for Trophies high and take responsibility when the game is not going their way.
    Some of the current squad players won't put effort and drown easily in negative emotions even when the game is a draw. Maybe the low desire for glory due to hefty pay-check and long contracts made them think they can't be disposed of for putting less shift. Also, As Roy pointed out most of the players at his time at United were self-motivated for improvement rather than coaches asking them every day to train hard or work out the issues themselves. They just follow the training module and when something comes out of the syllabus, they choke.
    I think the brilliant character is the most distinct feature of any big team that separates them from other teams because in terms of raw quality United had brilliant players then and even now but that mentality in the squad is missing.

    I am Liverpool through and through, but if I can put my football loyalties and bias aside, Keane has always been my top 3 favourite players of all time. Even when he was playing, I'd admire and envy his qualities; the tenacity, speaks his mind, winning mentality, screams at teammates. Now as a pundit, every time I see him on the panel/interviews with Gary, I click. I enjoy his honesty even more. You know he's got "oldschool class" when he keeps mentioning about, "good family background, good character".

    Love how Keane sticks with his convictions about the game, even when some of the picks are the classic "popular" picks - goes to show those players are legit beyond the spotlight, and that he doesn't care about trying to be cool or outside the box - he just says it like it is. Great assessment of some serious talent he played with. But I just can't picture a United best XI without Scholesy! He was at the heart of so much of United's success. 11 league titles to Ince's 2.. 2 Champion's League titles to Ince's 0. All these titles he was right there in the middle of the field each and every week controlling the tempo. Always in the discussion of the best Premier League midfielder of all time with Lamps and Gerrard. Ince to me doesn't make sense. I was very surprised by Keane leaving him out
