    This is the 3rd (4th if you count the one that came on the bike) skid plate that I've tried on my Honda CRF300 Rally. It's made by Flatland Racing in the US, and I picked it up on a visit in January 2022.
    They do seem to be quite popular with North America owners, so I thought I'd give it a try and comparison with my current favourite made by Kodama Composites in the UK.
    I'm quite impressed, particularly by how it protects the side panels when used with the Outback Motortek upper crash bars.
    See what you think.

    Got the Outback and Flatland Racing setup just like this for my Rally. Thanks for the video.

      Nice! May I ask if you’ve had any problems? I’ve yet to crash on the bars, (and haven’t been trying to!) but I was slightly curious as to how they’d hold up, especially the upper front mounting points. The lower crossbar seems very sturdy, and I have no doubt that’s strong enough, but I was wondering about the upper point. All good I guess, but until I get to see for myself, I won’t know for sure, so interested in how others are getting on.

    Yep, I actually like the new Flatland Racing skid plate better.
    It looks great, and seems very robust.
    The weigh-ins to are very informative and useful. Please continue featuring them in future episodes.
    I still have the H2C skid plate on my Rally. I’m very happy with it.
    I finally found a fellow here in Dallas who has a new CRF Rally.
    We’re getting together in a couple of weeks for a ride around his ranch land near here.
    Happy Trails

      Hi Allen, up early again?! And yes, the weighing will continue. It’s become a bit of a joke 😁. Sounds great to have a ranch to ride around on, I’m sure you’ll have a blast.

    Great review! I was hoping that AXP racing would make a plastic skid plate that would fit the Rally but they haven’t yet. The Flatland Racing looks like a quality product.
    Also, keep weighing in lol 😆 It may seem comical but I find it very helpful when considering products to purchase. Some sites do not list the weight of the item.

    • @PeakMotorcycles
      @PeakMotorcycles  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Ian. I’ve not come across a plastic plate other than the stock one. I know Acerbis (and AXP?) do one for the the L. Perhaps they don’t think there’s a market for one?
      And noted on the weighing. I must admit the complaints are fewer these days, but when I first started, some folks got quite angry and vocal about it. You can’t please everyone, but you can make it easy to skip it!

    Hey Andre, another great video that actually looks really good and the hammered metal finish looks really cool I like it better with drainage holes and the slotted holes on the sides. It will be very robust as well. I will also bet that if you came down on a sharp rock or pointed surface that had high PSI at one point that plate is going to save you all day versus that other pan. Oh yeah keep up the weight comparisons they are cool and for anyone that doesn't like them go to the 6 minutes time, that's the good part. The 600 grams difference is nothing down low, a lot of people have that extra weight in their helmet if they have a cheap skid lid! 🤣

    • @PeakMotorcycles
      @PeakMotorcycles  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Wayne, the other plate is two layers of Kevlar, one layer of carbon and then glass mat and clearcoat to finish. Apparently it’ll stop bullets and is really tough to drill or cut, so no problem with rocks. For me, the fact that it doesn’t protect the side panels is more of a problem, and for 600g, the Flatland is worth it. I’d like to think of it as having a small instead of large breakfast before a ride 🤣. This is my local and a small Yondermann is pretty epic. I’ve never seen anyone max out on the ‘biggest’, but if they did, that has to be 600g+ 🤣 www.yondermanncafe.com/menu

    Greetings Andre,
    As always fantastic detailed video 🇺🇸🍾🎉🇺🇸
    Would you recommend to drill some extra holes on the Kodama skid plate to solve the debris problem?
    Thank you for assisting me
    Keep producing more videos.

    • @PeakMotorcycles
      @PeakMotorcycles  ปีที่แล้ว

      Maybe, except it’s really hard to drill. The carbon fibre layer and the clearcoat layers will drill. The Kevlar takes a sharp drill and some patience. For now I’m managing with it how it is and giving it a good rinse out from time to time. Perhaps on a long trip it would be a problem but so far it hasn’t been. I asked Kodama about how it was on their 250 guard which has the same design and has been out for a lot longer and they said they had had no reported problems.

    Hi Andre, Happy New Year. Hope you are well. I wanted to ask you regarding the Yamoto vs the Flatlands Skid Plate, which do you think lined up better with the Outback Motortek Crash bars to offer the best protection to the fairings? and in your opinion, which do you prefer between these two? Thanks.

    • @PeakMotorcycles
      @PeakMotorcycles  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Probably the Flatland, but there is still some exposed plastic between them. On a flat surface you’d probably be ok, but if there’s a rock sticking up in the gap, neither would save it.

      @PeakMotorcycles  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Graeme, not particularly. I didn’t notice it with the Yamoto alloy one either. Not sure if that’s because of the side panels, or because the bike isn’t that noisy, or because my hearing is going with age 🤣. The bike is still pretty quiet.

    • @PeakMotorcycles
      @PeakMotorcycles  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mr.crumbz8647I think I had the Yamoto one on for longer than any other. Weight wise, it’s between the Flatland and Kodama. The fit was pretty good, though I think to get it to fit the first time I had to do up the front bolts and then used a stand to press it up against the bike to fit the rear bolts. It all lined up ok through. Some folks have complained about sound reflecting up from all metal bash guards but I haven’t noticed that.

    I notice you're using an ABBA Skylift. I'm about to buy one, primarily for my road bike, but would like to use it on the CRF as well. Abba don't list the CRF300, so I wondered what adapter size you're using? I also note you're using the lower frame tube, as opposed to the swingarm pivots. I take it that there's no problem using the lower tubes? I thought the lower tube might just be too close to the ground to fit the stand frame, but you seem to have managed it. I guess it also gives you access to remove the swingarm if you want.
    Anyway, I'd appreciate any guidance you can offer so that I can get the most useful adapters from Abba. Hope you don't mind me asking this, as it is a little off-piste.
    Great videos. Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge.

    • @PeakMotorcycles
      @PeakMotorcycles  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi,
      The lower frame tubes are a little low, so I have to use a MX lift to get the bike high enough to for the Skylift. Don’t laugh, but the kit I use is for a 2020 Ducati Panigale 1199 (kit 085). The adapters are 2x25mm ‘plugs’ which fits the holes below the pegs perfectly. I do have to remove the left side footpeg as I have the Zeta pegs (I think the stock ones were just about ok).
      Good luck!

      @adrianbeck5815 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@PeakMotorcycles Thanks Andre. I was hoping you didn't use an adapter & the standard ends of the Abba cradle fitted into the frame tube without anything else added. Do you think it might work without?
      Yes, I thought it may be low, but pretty easy to raise it first.
      Thanks for help.👍

    The OM bars are only 12lbs. Well worth the weight penalty.
    The part about the panel tabs not mating up with the plate is a deal breaker for me. That panel will rattle and flap in the wind at speed. That panel has to be supported.

    • @PeakMotorcycles
