😂😂😂 I bought my 2023 CRF300L Rally seven days ago. I’ve been researching this bike for about six months, and figured out what I wanted as far as upgrades and additions to my Rally.
I could have saved six months time by watching this video.

Hi Shonky (I like your vids too). Mosko's are expensive if you buy through Australia. I'm in Melbourne and bought a set through the Euro site (shipped from Netherlands, I think) and I saved a heap - you save on VAT and you don't get slogged for customer import taxes if the declared value is less than $1000.

  • @kiwiadventurer

Great video Mike. You talk about an entry level bike and weather its worth going the extra mile with suspension mods. You could be missing the point for several reasons. This is a clever bike, just think how it took off and how popular it is with beginners as well as the experienced. Honda could have easily had a much upgraded standard of suspension where the money is but would be less attractive to the beginner with a budget.
It is my opinion that Honda got it smack on for beginners who are happy as it is. I’m experienced and have done years of competitive enduro and have a utube channel showcasing New Zealands best on road rides on an AT. Braided rivers high passes and single tracks are more or less on the edge of where I want to be. Along came the CRF 3 hundy at the perfect starting point. I’ll spend money where I will build the bike to where I want it and have a very serious long service interval good range go anywhere motorcycle with one of the best motors in the business. I can’t wait for my 3 hundy Rally to arrive. How many bikes lend themselves to customizing as well as the crf. Its the future DRZ 400 legend in the making. I like what you have done with your bike Mike and you’re not rushing in until you work our your custom needs. Like the short tail look big time and funnily enough I love the look of the half fairing. I’ve been giving that a lot of thought before seeing your video because I like the look and simplicity of seeing the motor, not to mention serviceability. There are heaps of river crossings over here so the less that can go wrong the better. Like you I chose the Rally for open road running and will drop two teeth off the rear sprocket. I have a rackless giant loop ready for the bikes arrival.
I look forward to seeing how you go in the near future and have subscribed. If I may ask a couple of questions. I used an Anikee Wild on the rear of the AT and I couldn’t hear the engine for the tyre noise and that's with an Akripovic system. How noisy is the Dunlop D606 Mike? Would you be kind enough to give me some details about your bash plate. Is it that thick 6mm tough plastic. I believe they save shitloads of noise too. Keep up your interesting vids mate and stay safe. Till next time.

I'm always amused when I watch videos like this one... Cuz most of these motorcycles come from the factory equipped with way more than 90% of the people that buy them can you use... Without changing 50% of the gear LOL...'Nuff said!!!... Good stuff thanks for posting. I'm in Glendale, thinking of purchasing the same bike so I'll be watching your videos... Greetings Sir, You make me miss the Arizona desert...I was born and raised in Kearny. I live in ABQ now, but I am in Portland for work until July. I own a Honda 450RL. I love the look and features of the 300 Rally. I just wish Honda would make a larger one with more CC's. Like most adventure riders, I'm searching for unicorns. These days, I think it's best to have multiple bikes. I will probably buy the KTM 890 Adventure R for more long trip adventure rides this year. I will keep my Honda, as it is a great light weight adventure bike! You can't go wrong with a Honda! I do think it's a good investment to put money into your bike. I have already put 10K into mine and more to come. I hope to post some videos of my build with my Honda soon. Cheers!

If you live close enough to the offroad area that you only need to drive 5-10 miles on pavement to get there the 80/20 tires are the ticket. But if you are driving, say 20 or more, then 50/50 is a bit nicer and just taking more care riding offroad.

I’m thinking about trying out the Michelin Trackers based off the guys recommendation over at Lightweight Adventurers. Their saying that when the front tire is brand new, it wants to follow every little crack in the road, but this seems to go away after only 100 miles or so, and then the tire performs excellent on road and off. As far as the rear Michelin, they believe that it performs excellent off road... The tires are nice looking, and do appear that they would perform well off-road. They certainly not priced towards the lower end, but Michelin’s never are...

Nice bike and set up. All new tyres will be a little Sketchy for the first 500km before they bed in so you need to give them some time. Having said that, I did not like the D606 front and changed over to a Pirelli MT21 which I have settled on. As a new rider, you are at the correct weight for the shock and fork springs. I would ride with the current suspension for a couple of years and then upgrade the bike when you become a better rider.

Wrong way on one-way streets, riding on sidewalks... However, I belong to an ex-pat riding group and they go into the mountains and my bike is by far the biggest bys terrible suspension. Plus the drive super crazy here on and off the road.I noticed one of the guys on our last ride was on the Honda 300 Adventure and the Honda store told me both the Rally and Adventure are the same bike. The guy who had the Honda was 6 feet tall. How tall are you? Have you gotten crash bars yet? Adventure lights? What is your thoughts on a box on the back? I am only 5 foot 10 and about 210 lbs.
