  • DIY: Kenmore Elite Oasis Dryer Repair - Dryer Does Not Heat
NOTE: This is not meant to be instructions for anyone on how to repair their dryer but rather a video on how I repaired mine. This is mainly for entertainment purposes. Please consult with a certified appliance technician before taking on any repairs yourself.
Hey everybody, welcome to my TH-cam channel, my name is Charles and in today’s DIY video, I’m going to talk about my attempts at repairing our Kenmore Elite dryer which we’ve had for at least 10 years now and that has now stopped heating. In one of my earlier videos, I talked about how you can save money during this pandemic and one of the ways of doing this is to do things yourself. After doing a few searches online, I found that according to improvenet.com, a repair technician will charge anywhere from $30 to $80 to perform a diagnostic test to find the problem and will charge anywhere from $300 to $420 to fix it but it all depends on what needs to be fixed. Of course, we could have just caved in and bought a new one since ours is at least 10 years old. But I figured, if I can fix it, maybe it can last us a little longer while keeping the money would have spent for a new one. So, did I find the issue and was I able to fix our dryer? In a moment, you’ll see video footage of what it took to take our whole dryer apart and to put it back all together again. I sped up most of the video to get to the interesting parts where I point out certain things. Stay until the end to find out how things went. You may just learn something.
    (Video)
So, there you have it. It only cost me about $3 for this replacement part to get our dryer working again. Timewise, between having to take the dryer apart, finding the issue, ordering and waiting for the replacement part to come in, and then finally putting it all back together took less than 5 days which was fine because we didn’t have a need for the dryer during that time.
When it comes to DIY projects, there are a few things you need to consider before taking one on. The first thing is to assess your comfort level with the project. Maybe you have some applicable experience that might help or maybe you decide it’s best to leave it to the experts. If you’re really set on wanting to take on that DIY project but are not confident in your skill level, don’t hesitate to ask a buddy for help. Halfway into a project you may find you’re in way over your head and that it’s costing you more time and money to complete it. If you find yourself in that situation, just stop and call a buddy to come help you out. The second thing to consider is if doing the DIY project will be worth your time and money. You may see that taking on a project could be fun but if the need for that project getting done in a timely manner outweighs when you can do it and how long it will take, then leaving it to the experts may be the best thing to do. Your time is valuable and is better spent on other planned activities. Sure, it may cost you more, but you’ll have the peace of mind that the project is done and that you can move on to the next thing.
Well that’s it for this DIY segment. If you’ve enjoyed this video and want to see more of it, please subscribe to my TH-cam channel, hit that like button, and turn on your notification so that you get informed when I release a new video. Until then, take care!

15 years ago I repaired my Washer. I used the Internet for guides and instructions. Bought parts in Vallejo. One weekend, I disassembled everything. Trouble shooting, testing, and replacing dozens of worn out parts. Reassembled 36 hours later. Happy working order again. Now, 15 years later, still working like new. The feeling of learning and accomplishing the repair and result that still working today. You did a great job Charles!

James Jamias I really appreciate the comment James! Learning to do things yourself is such a great feeling and experience. And you can always expand that knowledge into other things as well.

Charles, I learned so much from you. Making mods from computers, Dj Coffins and even modding Ron’s Integra with air intakes scoop and side markers. Best thing I learned from you was in high school, making amazing taste of Hamburger Patties with shredded sliced bread in the patties mix. Genius!

Kenmore Elite Oasis Steam Models 110.C6808 have Inlet hose (back bottom) and the problem is water inside now.
    I search FREE service manual.
    Thanks for sharing

Reviewed your video. Have same unit. Unit motor runs , no heat , opened port in the front panel. I see the glow plug light up. Curious did you check that before disassembly ? quite a feat to open everything but doable. Certainly probably the thermal fuse.

Sir, how exactly did you pop the top open? Thanks

There was way too much lint inside the dryer. When you reconnected the exhaust hose, I noticed it was too long and was bending. If that is the way it was sitting in it's final position then that is why you have a lint back up into the dryer. There isn't enough air flow.
Shorten the hose to get more of a straight connection to the wall and the blower should be able to blow everything through.
I just took mine apart after 16 years of use and it was nearly completely clean inside.

I know this video is old but you should not be using any teflon tape or any thread seal on compression fitting.

You are correct in your statement that there is no benefit or need to use Teflon tape, but that is a flare fitting, not a compression fitting.
