Just a quick video showing how I fixed my very noisy dryer by changing the idler pulley and roller wheels along with the drive belt. This is Kenmore Elite Oasis Clothes Dryer, but many dryers use this same type of drive system and roller wheels.
It was squeaking and squealing really loud and this fixed the problem.
*Update* The kit that I originally purchased and installed from Amazon with the red colored wheels only lasted 1 1/2 months. I started hearing thumping sounds from the dryer like it had a shoe in it. I took it apart again and two of the new replacement wheels I had put in were falling apart! The outside Rubber was just coming apart and separating from the inside plastic part.
I then purchased another kit (This one was part# 4392067 in a sealed Whirlpool package). Here's the link to the better kit:
    amzn.to/2SDqozW
The think the plastic part of the wheels was black or dark green.
It's been about 2 months now and no problems.
I highly recommend you go with the factory replacement on this one instead of a universal kit.
    Thanks for watching!

Great step-by-step video. Removing and replacing the triangular washers made for sore fingertips, so repairer beware. Dan's tip to pull the belt off the widest part of the drum so you can hook the belt back around the idler arm was spot on. My dryer is back up and running like new. We've had this Kenmore set for 13 years. The repair will hopefully get us through a few more years.

You saved me! I replaced the heater on my Oasis dryer and the rollers, and for the life of me I could not get the stupid belt back on. I did your suggestion and it worked. Thank you so much.

Hands down the best instructional video I have used off TH-cam to date. Thank you! I have the exact model dryer and HAD the same problem. I bought a repair kit off of Amazon for $25 and my wife and I repaired the problem over the weekend. Saved lots of $$$ and felt pretty good about ourselves. Putting the drum belt back on was a little tricky but the tip to thread the underlying wheel first and then slowly pulling the belt to its original location did the trick.
    Thank you!!

Thanks Dan. Your video was spot on. I was able to complete the same repair thanks to your detailed instructions. Given the current circumstances, we did not want to have a stranger into the house to repair the dryer. Thanks again for taking the time to share your knowledge and experience.

Another HUGE thank you! The most helpful DFI video I have watched. I was really discouraged when the dryer started making that noice. I did a search and your video left me feeling this repair was possible. The parts arrived in two days (your link does say out of stock but if you enter the same information in the amazon search, there are kits). I just referred to the video step by step and was able to finish the job on my own. The tips were perfect. While feeding the new belt, I found it helpful to put a soda can in front to hold up the tub. I also found I wasn’t exactly sure what I was trying to feed the belt around so I googled a picture of the idler pulley. Others may want to check out the whole mechanism before you get to that step. I really appreciate that you took the time to share your experience and wisdom.

Dan, we have the same washer and dryer, and I must say, for a guy (me) that is not mechanically inclined, nor do I have much patience, this tutorial by you was extremely helpful. I'm thinking about going into the appliance repair business (:)). I'm sure this saved me a few hundred dollars. As much as I wanted to save the money and just do the idler pulley, I did the rollers too. I was nervous that after I put it together, just as you instructed, that I would test it and find that it wasn't the problem! It sounds like a brand new machine. My next project is the washer (main bearing?). You are Dan the Man, not just the fixitman! Thanks for providing a platform for some of us amateurs, so appreciative.

While waiting on my repair kit from Amazon, I took apart my dryer and looked at all the parts. I cleaned everything really well and put it back together and miracle of miracles, it worked without that horrible squealing! This video was a huge help, thank you so much! Guess I'll hang on to the repair kit for next time.

did the same thing yesterday before i found this video, i carefully cleaned the wheel bearings and used a little lithium grease which worked great, long-term though the lint may stick to the grease, and get then noisy once again, but hey the dryer is working once again

Just finished fixing my dryer! Turns out I had a torn belt that eventually snapped. My model was a different year so my belt size was different as well but the internals looked exactly the same and therefore I was able to follow along perfectly. While I was down there I also found some of the wheels that spun the drum were rusted shut and replaced those as well. Now everything runs smooth and a lot more quiter too. Thank you so much for your guidance! I was able to fix everything for under $25. Truly thank you, I really appreciate it!!! ❤ Liked and Subbed 👍

Thanks Dan, I owe you a case of beer. Had the identical dryer w/ same issue. now fixed. Only I wish I would have known about the other smaller belt upfront. That one looked pretty cracked and frayed since 2010. but just left it.

Dan: You saved me a lot of money. Your instructions were terrific. I took my machine apart to make sure the parts were identical to the ones in your machine. Since I didn't have the parts, I used WD40 on everything and cleaned up as much as I could. I then closed the machine up. It has worked without squeaking for two weeks. If the squeaking comes back, I will order the kit and replace everything. Thank you.

Thank you kind sir for this tutorial. Was kind of hesitant to tackle the job but after watching your video I was like "What the Heck"
Just finished it an hour ago 4/4/2023 and no more dryer noise.
    Tip:
The first wire (1:15) does not have to be disconnected. Just move the door to the side and lean it against a wall or prop it somehow. The only reason I didn't disconnect it was because I hadrd time trying with the putty knife. I should have used a Phillips screwdriver instead.
Also someone mentioned that they bought a kit with the belt being a tad bit shorter. Mine was as well (colored red on one side) and the reason they are shorter is because the original has stretched overtime. My new belt worked fine. My new wheels are black (old ones are red).
For some odd reason my idler pulley did not have the outer triangular snap-ring. I'm wondering if the pulley was failing so hard that it broke the snap-ring off. The pulley didn't roll as well as the new one. All the four original wheels rolled pretty well without squeaking.
The link that Dan the Fix it Man shared for the kit was out of stock so I did some research and found another one and it is an original Whirlpool Made in USA. Arrived in three days in Long Beach, Cali.

Gotta agree with these comments...super camera work and thorough instructions. My challenge is the fabric that gets hung between dryer door and drum. Any ideas? I'm thinking those same rollers are worn out. Lifting the drum makes it possible to remove the stuck fabric.

This is my exact dryer and what's wrong with it! Thank you so much sharing! The matching washer supposedly needs a mother board. Have you fixed that too?

    • @jimore09131
      @jimore09131 3 ปีที่แล้ว

I replaced the motherboard on the dryer. Replacing it on the washer can't be too hard. Because my machine came with my condo it is at least seven years old. A new motherboard was about $290. I took a chance and bought a used one on eBay for $80. They claimed it was tested. Who knows? It has been working now for 6 months.

great video but lithium grease on pulley and roller wheels... also much easier to take off the 5 or so screws from back of dryer once door is off to get to the pulley and belt on. did the job in 45 minutes plus 20 for cleaning it out from 10 years of lint build up.

  • @arthurp5215

When you lost the video was that at the same time you had someelse come in and hold the drum in place while you out the belt back on? Your video shows you placing the drum back in with no one haolding it in place.
That drum will not stay in place while you put that drive belt back on without someone holding it in place.
At that point it is a two man job. Your video was good to a point.

Yes, that's a good idea. I probably should've put grease on the shafts for each roller wheel and the idler pulley. Thankfully it's still working well, and doesn't make any noise now. If I ever do this job again, I will add some grease.
      I appreciate the feedback.

Is this method of replacing the belt and wheels the same for a 700 series model? Mine is thumping a little louder so I want to open it and see if I can do some diy . All I need to make sure the disassembly is similar on a 700 just like the Oasis. Greatly appreciate your feedback ☺️

I fixed mine by removing those rollers, cleaning them, and applying some grease. Now I have to do it again. Stupid design to have them on bushings instead of bearings! I will be replacing everything now with new stuff and the old rollers, I will be modifying them with a roller bearing instead.
