I am 18 years old. And I have been doing the exact same things you mentioned except since I had so much bad acne since 15 years old, I have been using 0.1% adapelene cream on my face for 6 months religiously now and it really has changed the game and I couldn’t have been happier really. Earlier I used to avoid social events, birthday parties only because I was so much insecure of myself. So guys know what you need, use your resources. I cleanse, moisturize and use sunscreen in the am and the cream in the pm. That's it. I actually have good skin now. I get a pimple here and there sometimes, but It's still very much controllable.
Yeah I understand what you mean. I had severe acne when I was a teen and starting at 13 years old, it was so bad that I needed dermatologist intervention. I started on adapalene and then was prescribed retinol and oral antibiotics to fix my skin. It was so severe I almost went on accutane, but eventually got better and I’ve now been using retinoids for more than 10 years. Helped so much to fade my hyperpigmentation that I had from a young age.
Yes! Thank you! Also, I think blue lizard sunscreen is the best!! My daughter actually gets photo contact dermatitis with regular sunscreens, so that's why we use Blue Lizard. Mahalo!!
Yeah typically teens don’t need all that. I had acne from about 12-13 years old and it became so severe that it needed dermatologist intervention. I was prescribed retinoids and oral antibiotics as a teen and was recommended to exfoliate as well. I developed severe hyperpigmentation at that time so after I finally cleared most of my acne at 20 years old, I started using vitamin c. I only did all of this under the supervision of medical professionals, so if anyone’s not in my shoes then definitely you don’t need all that stuff 😅
Thank you for this. I am forwarding this to my son and daughter. But can you also make a video about teen acne on what to use to resolve it particularly cystic acne.
If you have acne then obviously you should use serums and products specificially for acne, this is a barebone routine if you dont have a specific skin concern like acne, hyperpigmentation, photoaging, ezcema, etc. If you have acne and more specifically cystic acne you'll want to use retinoids, benzoyl peroxide, topical/oral antibiotics and if its caused by irregular hormone levels in women birth control is an option too. It's important to note that if your child has cystic acne that should be treated as it's a serious skin concern and a cleanser, moisturizer and sunscreen wont cut it. I always recommend to see a dermatologist but I recognize that's not an option for everyone. Use a 10% benzoyl peroxide cleanser, ideally use prescribed tretinoin at 0.25% or adapalene at 1% but retinaldehyde or retinol will suffice and use a moisturizer with urea and a mineral or hybrid sunscreen with a high concentration of zinc oxide. It all depends on the skin type though, are you oily, dry, combination, sensitive, etc. Here are a list of more ingredients to look out for; 2% Salicylic Acid, 20% Azealic Acid, 5% Niacinamide, Glycolic Acid, Lactic Acid, Mandellic acid, Sulfur, Clindamycin, Erythromycin, Tea Tree Oil, Zinc PCA, Spironolactone, Isotretinoin (accutane) and hydrocolloid spot patches, etc. You don't need to use all of these, just ones that work for you at % that work for you.
All I used in my teens was cetaphil cleanser and lotion.. i was prescribed retinol at 15 for sever acne! Of course I always wore sunscreen everyday as my mom stressed it !!!! im 26 now and i still use retinol and just my cleanser and lotion :) and SPF always
What about teens with breakouts, don’t they need a gentle chemical exfoliant to help with skin cell turnover and remove surface dead skin dirt and oil that clog the pores causing bacteria to grow?
it depends always on what your skin needs. I personally use a sulfur clay mask 1-2 times a week to control the sebum and it also works wonders for my acne. I think the point is that you don’t need every ingredient in your skincare routine. More is not more and less is more. Listen to your skins needs!
Can you address Redheads and people who burn easily? Three of my kids are redheads and it doesn't matter what sunscreen I use, they still get burned through it. Are there any other recommendations?
My parents bought me a nivea cleanser which contains salicylic acid and said to use twice daily which is so dangerous for your skin since it damages your skin if used to much
I also incorporate a serum for redness, it’s the Iunik Tea Tree relief serum. Is that okay? 1. Cleanser 2. Rice water as toner 3. Serum 4. Moisturizer 5. Sunscreen
I definitely wouldn’t recommend that serum. Toners are a waste and not needed. I would definitely suggest searching up Dr Shereene Idriss and she’s got plenty of TH-cam videos and product recommendations!
Hello Doc, I have a question. I'm a teenager that has mild acne, What skincare routine do you recommend to help to control my acne while not destroying my skin barrier 😅 (Hope you can reply if no, it's fine)
The bluntness is beautiful
Thank you for your bluntness. I hope it reaches the people (teenagers) who need to hear it.

Thank you Dr!
I aam in europe and la roche posay will break my bank and cerave is also a bit pricey here too.
Cetaphil would do good too, they're a lil bit cheaper, at least here in Ireland anywayss
Your videos are so informative

Thank you for sharing video🥰
Exactly. If you don't have skin issues like acne, cleanse, moisturize and sunblock.
you got me with the sunblock. 💀
Plenty of teens have hyperpigmentation. I sure did.
Thank you
Thank You Doctor !💕
Exactly don't try to fix something that's not broken!! You'll just do more damage 😅

This is my skincare routine currently. And I’ve definitely noticed an improvement
“Thank you, Dr!!” We all scream in unison

I'm shocked this is all the engagement you have. Remember me when you have a million subs.

But what if they have acne , and some dark spots from poking at the acne ?
maybe try a spot treatment or anti blemish
My parents bought me a nivea cleanser which contains salicylic acid and said to use twice daily which is so dangerous for your skin since it damages your skin if used to much
What if the teenager has acne?
good day. I'm 49 can you reccomend best skin care routine. Morning and evening routine. I'm from Philippines.
Fr like one of my classmates who is literally 13 brought a hole suitcase full of skincare with like 20 different serums for a two overnight camp
I also incorporate a serum for redness, it’s the Iunik Tea Tree relief serum. Is that okay?
1. Cleanser
2. Rice water as toner
3. Serum
4. Moisturizer
5. Sunscreen
Be careful with essential oils if you have sensitive skin
@@TrueNorth1217I’ve heard :0 but I don’t use essential oils 💜
@@jackieortiz316 it may not contain tea tree oil but extractions from the same plant can be irritating. But if it works for you nice!
@@TrueNorth1217 ah I see what you mean, yeah. But yeah it’s working nice, already got my second one :) 💚

I actually do have a lot of hyperpigmentation and have had for a long time even though I'm only 13.
The teens using their parents money stopped listening at affordable
I wish this was made 2 years ago when my dumbass started using SA for my face as my first cleanser 😭
Are you over 40 years old Doctor ?
For those with acne, get a moisturizer with salicylic acid as an active ingredient. If you can afford it, see an esthetician for extractions.
Yess I love the cetaphil mattifying moisturizer
I have hyperpigmentation on my lips and my face as well as acne
How about if you are an athlete teenager ? A swimmer one. What skincare would you advise?
what about acne medication?
I’m 18 and have acne scars…should I use the Dermalogica Travel Size Daily Microfoliant
SHould i opt for a salicilyc acid cleanser or normal one
I am allergic to sunscreen and have been since I was four. Does anyone know anything that can help?
Can I tag my teenager??! lol
What about if my daughter has blackheads? Is it okay for her to use the leave in benzoyl peroxide by Neurogena?
Benzoyl peroxide works great for acne and blackheads.
@@amaliarosocasquete7254 Yes. Very true.
I’m curious to know if the sun screen works for all types? I have combination skin.
Hello Doc, I have a question. I'm a teenager that has mild acne, What skincare routine do you recommend to help to control my acne while not destroying my skin barrier 😅 (Hope you can reply if no, it's fine)
