Matt, we all deserve a break after the Crown Vic it’s well deserved. I feel your pain with the storage.. why are garages so small and drives so narrow 😢
I recently discovered you can buy textured "loom tape" from motor factors or auto stores, which looks much neater and more OEM-ish than electrical tape. 🙂
This was the very antithesis of a Crown Vic' video. Caught a well-deserved break. Ever had a hankering for a Tipo 160? I like the shape. How do they compare to the 145 I wonder.
Happy to see a video on the Alfa again! I've missed it lol, such a pretty color. Hope to see a [spirited] driving video sometime again to hear that TS!
When it comes to a collection of wires, positive or earth, all coming to a single point, I take the easy way out. I use an auxiliary fuse panel. Each wire to its own terminal, one wire to battery or earth, depending. Works a treat. In the case of hot wires with fusible links, such as the mess of wires that were in my late 70s Fords, it is almost a must do. Those cars have the hot lead from the battery plus 4 different wires, each with a fusible link. All well and good until the nut holding them to the starter relay works loose or one of the links overheats. That is where those old Fords are vulnerable to fires. Eliminate the spaghetti junction, replace fusible links with blade fuses, and problems solved. I'm at the point where you are taking about parking access in the unit. The front end geometry of the 240, 7 Series, and 9 Series is borrowed directly from the London taxi cab spec. When London City Council was drafting the specifications for a new taxi in the late 40s, the made it an impossible car to build. There seemed to be no way to get the required length for cargo and passengers and achieve the required tightness of the turning circle. Austin engineers figured out how to gain lock by having the front wheels tilt as they neared full lock. Still works to this day. The 240 had a 32 foot turning circle. The 7 Series and so 9 Series are about the same.
This is great news Matt. Like you from my experience the 'simple' jobs tend to act like a broken nozzle on a Styrofoam can where the repair requires more things to take apart that result in even more things that need to be fixed and on it goes. Usually closing with thoughts of why did I bother. Many thanks for sharing the good news and a quick state of the fleet.
As an old Mechanic i know says " Check the simple stuff first" Spent a day chasing a no start problem to find an intermittent coil wire connector, solved --New lead.
I really liked my 145 1.8 TS Yr 2000 in deep red - it wasn’t a Lusso it had cloth interior - such a fun car. Always enjoy seeing your 145 and it’s a great colour too - they seem so rare on U.K. roads now so v well done to you for keeping it on the road.
Hi Matt. If you put a new earth through the cover cap to the bulb connector could the wires have been tensioned and pulled off as you twisted the cap to lock it in place? If so maybe pushing some earth wire inside the headlight unit to form some slack.
You deserve a good break after the Vic. Very happy for you and if you want to bring your luck to my place to help with my number plate lighting fault you are welcome 😂😂
"It's 25 degrees, so hot today." :Australian raises eyebrow: 😜In dry Mediterranean climates like here in southern Australia, you can use portable evaporative coolers outdoors which are really handy and surprisingly effective!
I personally sell the volvo and keep the 75 if you want to keep it. Could possibly sell both and dedicate more time to each car since i would love for progress on all projects if it was possible such the classic mini and the tomcat while keeping a few good running cars such as the 200vi.
I'd keep the 75 matt. A lot of your subscribers love it. Plus, it makes good videos and content that will earn £ and bring more people to the channel. 👍🙌 I'd get rid of the old mini, mercedes, and the rover tourer. All 3 are far more than projects that are taking up room and spending money on storing them. At the rate you're going with all these cars, there never gonna get restored, etc. Mabye worth cutting your losses and sticking with cars that don't need a full restoration and just normal projects like the other cars. 😂😊
Lovely! That car needs its legs stretched a bit. I just came back from a weeks holiday in in Germany, drove almost 1200km in a week and my Bravo is driving a lot better now 😊
@@TassieLorenzo I have had a couple of cars, where do you have to remove pieces of trim, before you can remove the whole headlight unit, to replace a bulb. My latest car has LEDs, so hopefully that won’t be a problem.
That black number platw XC-31-15 its exactly the old Portuguese number olates befofe we belong to the EU. But i know there is another country that used to have the same looking number plate! Sweden or Netherlands?! Something around those locations 😅
Its aways the case you think its a big job when there is a problem but its a win when it turns to be a simple fix and you brought your drill thinking you would have to use it a you didn't
25 deg...... we are all suffering but I asked myself today how on earth did we cope on that day last year when it hit 40 deg? I am guessing we didn't lol
If you have to get rid of the 75, why not give one of your subscribers the chance to win it in a £5 raffle? You have nearly 90k subscribers, there should be enough interested to raise the amount you want for the car and some of your viewers may subscribe!
Get rid of the W123, it’s a money pit I had a 1981 W123 280E, fabulous car to drive but the rust was even more “fabulous”, had to regrettably sell it for parts, it was that bad Never understood how Mercedes managed to make the rest of the car bombproof and somehow forgot about the body shell. I think you need to assess which cars are money pits and in effect will never be finished and pass them on, case in point is the Mercedes, when did you last work on it? I’m sure parked outside the British climate is doing it no favours…
Just picking myself up off the floor Matt 😳 you gotta do the LOTTERY this week with luck like that and use combinations of 145 😂 “ it could be you “ 👍🏻.
I always ask myself what's going through the mind of this (sorry for the expression) "car hoarders". Continuesly buying cars, never finish a car from which you can say 100% road worthy because there are always issues. Notvto forget those repairs cost lots of money too. My idea would be, get rid of the old crap who causes pain in the ass, like the old Mercedes and the Mini shell. Eventually more and more cars appear, but no decent place to stall them from the elements. My idea would be first and for all find a decent bigger barn how difficult it could be.
Money time/ distance for a good unit plus's more space you just fill it, then your in the same boat. As for Junk cars it's nice reviving one and pain and Suffering are part of it 😁 I think you have to have the car disease to understand 👍
It pains me to say it, but I had to move on my 159 ti Sportwagon recently because it was doing its best to drain my wallet. My replacement car is a Honda CR-Z, which is a very different beast.
@@furiousdriving I loved the Alfa - it was an absolute mile muncher on the motorway (I regularly do 500 mile round trips to visit family) and very relaxing to drive, as 2000rpm in sixth gear meant you were driving at the speed limit. Very comfortable with great seats, lovely handling and loads of torque on tap. Since I bought the CR-Z about 5 weeks ago, I have driven about 1500 miles. Took it on the B-roads on the North York Moors last bank holiday, and this car is a hoot to drive. Because it's not a powerful car (122bhp ish), but has good handling and the sublime Honda gearbox, giving it the beans on good twisty road makes for a very rewarding drive. It has 3 driving modes which are eco, normal and sport. I have not used eco, but a mixture of normal and sport and I am currently getting an average of 48 mpg. Throw into the mix £25 a year road tax, group 17 insurance and the fact that the car I bought had just over 58k on the clock, a full service history (mostly Honda) as well as 6 months warranty, all for what I thought was an absolute steal at the price. I'm fairly certain that I could sell this car on for a tidy profit, but I'm not going to, as it's a lot of fun for relatively little money.
@@rogerhanbury677 Just like anything else, batteries can and do go wrong. However, if you look at any CR-Z forum, it would seem that batteries are not a problem generally. If you do have a problem with them, then there are ways of reconditioning them back to good health rather than buying a new battery pack. The batteries in this car are capable of doing 150k miles before needing any attention.
Matt, we all deserve a break after the Crown Vic it’s well deserved. I feel your pain with the storage.. why are garages so small and drives so narrow 😢
Nothing wrong with a short video when it comes to working on an Alfa. Congrats!

It's a lot easier access than my Smart 450 ... I'm still in pain ... and the front end still had to come off after all 😫
Bin the Merc or give it to your buddy with the yellow one as a spares car. Then keep the 75 in the garage.
Fixing a bodge from another bodge 👍🏻 great success
This was the very antithesis of a Crown Vic' video. Caught a well-deserved break. Ever had a hankering for a Tipo 160? I like the shape. How do they compare to the 145 I wonder.

Miss my Rosso 146ti as I couldn't bring it back to OZ from England. They never sold it here. Fab little practical hot hatch!
Nice to see a job that took less time than expected. You deserve a break after recent problems 👍
Cannot beat a simple fix. Be nice to see the Alfa back on the road and you using it and enjoying it.
Good to see the Freelander! Was wondering where it had gotten to
Feels like it's been ages since we've seen the Alfa, happy to see it fixed and hopefully back on the fleet to drive around in
Nice one Matt. You're overdue a lucky break!!.
I would keep the Rover 75 and get rid of the rusty Mercedes!
Nooooooo! The man has at least SIX rovers for goodness sake!!! 😂
No money in the Mercedes as it is
Yes+ scrap the Mercedes it’s beyond repair
Get rid of that old mercedes
Matt’s cars so he can do what he wants but as a viewer I’ve lost interest in the Mercedes, as it’ll just be welding, welding and more welding.

We are not used to seeing these sort of vids where you have an easy fix. I was expecting a full wiring harness strip down because of a bulb 😬
a standard Chep type (blue) pallet will hold 1500kgs and a euro 1000kgs so will easily handle a mini

Wires falling off the bulb is a common Fiat / Alfa Romeo issue,
The electrics on my Doblo were a nightmare.
New bulbs on a car are so cheap and they tend to make a tremendous difference at night to how a car looks.
