    Just installed a reverse camera on my car. I always look back while reversing, but I want the camera to see anything low down that you can't see by looking back or from the mirrors. Curbs, rocks, fire hydrants, small animals, etc... When you install a camera yourself, you may end up with arbitrary lines, or you may be able to adjust your lines. I eyeballed my line adjustment for the moment, but I should really take some measurements and make sure the lines are where I want them to be. My impression is that most aftermarket cameras will only have the static lines. Some cars also also adjust the turning lines with your speed, not only with the position of the steering wheel.

    I have been using the backup camera and all of my mirrors. I do looked the back,also. My last vehicle had a 4 inch camera which is small. My 2020 Ford Escape SE has a little bit bigger screen which is 8 inches. I just loved the size of it. I even had to be very careful in backing my vehicle in a certain spot. My neighbor kind of parked closely to the yellow line. I have been practicing in backing in. This technology for backup cameras was new to me in 2013 when my mother had gotten her Ford Edge now it is my sister’s vehicle. I’m happy what I have so far. A lot of people in my apartment complex has much older cars. This one neighbor has a 2021 Toyota Camry in white. That vehicle is pretty sweet since that I liked the styling of it.

  • @Vinterfrid

    Quite a good video - but I don't agree as regards turning your head looking back as you reverse. I always use external and internal rear view mirrors when I reverse - that's something that is also necessary when driving a lorry or some other big vehicle. Turning your head as you reverse means you cannot see objects at the side you're not looking at. Using the rear view mirrors gives you a better overview (if you ask me).

    • @ConduiteFacile
      @ConduiteFacile  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      By turning your head you have a wider angle of view. You also see through the back passenger windows, as opposed to when looking at the mirrors where you only see to the sides (side mirrors), or directly behind (central mirror). But in reality, you should use a combination of both.

  • @elizabethpeterson1644
    @elizabethpeterson1644 ปีที่แล้ว

    I always looked around in my vehicle. I looked through the back, side mirrors, rear view mirror, and of course my backup camera. I even have backup censors in backing out. I always looked around inside my car. I think a few of my neighbors don’t have backup cameras in their cars. I have been practicing in driving reverse in my 2020 Ford Escape. It has a big backup camera.

    My Toyota RAV-4 has a reverse camera, however, when I always back out of my driveway, I usually always look at the side windows, side mirrors, looking at the rear windshield, and only using the reverse camera only to see if I'm about to hit something, like you say. My family is using a little too comfortable about the reverse camera, and use it most of the time, compared to looking back and looking at the mirrors, and they think I'm strange for using the reverse camera only a little bit. I'm like that because I like to gain a lot more experience looking at the important windows and mirrors in the vehicle than looking at the camera. I think of it this way: even though vehicles are getting a lot more modern and have more advanced features, the driver can't be replaced. So that experience of reversing without thinking the reverse camera is there most of the time is how I do it :)

    Volkswagen has a rather genius way of hiding their reverse cameras when not in use. So when the vehicle is put in reverse, the VW emblem pivots on a center axis revealing the camera at the bottom of the emblem that's now rotated 45°. Then when the car is put back into either drive or park, the emblem returns to its flat position, hiding the camera for a clean look, genius.

    Check by turning head and twisting neck and rotating body
    Move vehicle into position
    Engage reverse
    Check the distorted wide angle camera
    Check again by turning head and twisting neck and rotating body
    Park without looking at camera
    Final move, check camera front and back for spacing and courtesy unless ... you have other ideas.

    When I reverse in tight space, I don't look at the lines. All I look at is the bumper. You can see the bumper at the bottom of the screen.

    You mentioned needing to look back to notice the crossing traffic behind you. It may not have been available then, but now many cars have Rear Cross Traffic Alert, so a buyer may want to look for that. Again, it obviously doesn't replace the need to look back anyway.
