Zeus: *Kicks down door* WHERE'S HYPNOS!!? Nyx: *Offended glare* What is the matter... _Zeus_ . Zues: N-nothing, ma'am. I was... I was just playing around with... Hypnos. *Leaves immediately*
Just to put her power into some sort of understandable perspective. Zeus the almighty god that defeated the titans, bullied Atlas out of well paying job just so he could use his strength to create the first ever snow-globe. Submitted Typhon by tagging in/throwing Dwayne Johnson from the clouds to deliver the biggest People's elbow the universe has ever witnessed. The same god that complained of having a bit of a headache.. only to find out it was just a case of a fully grown armored Athena banging on his brain like a drum because the night light went out. He was the big kid that played King of the hill using a Taser.. 99% of the universe was his to fuck with....... Then if you compare that power with say someone like Moros (one of Nyx's children) and Zeus becomes nothing more than a puppet on some strings.. and if Moros gets bored playing zeusnocchio he can just cut the strings and its game over Then there is Nyx... Moros' Mother... If she decides thats enough playtime, she can tell Moros to put his toys away and put him down for a nap just in time for Judge Judy and a glass or two of wine.... gameover universe... Its essentially Toy Story on a grander scale... The toys are gods...Andy is Moros and Nyx is the mum that turns off the light when its bed time...
Nyx is my favorite deity ever. One of the oldest and most powerfull beings in greek (and roman) mythology. Basically the mother of life as we know it. Both terrifying and beautiful. Bringer of horror, but also shelter and comfort. Such a good combination of good and bad, but overall seems to be nice and caring, at least for her children. I can't help but love her.
I can't help but feel like Hecate and Nyx have a lot in common...both are very mysterious and both are held in highest respect by Zeus...it raises a lot of questions in my mind...loved the video by the way!!!
Bobby Mattox Nyx, Hecate, and Eris are my favorite goddesses. I feel the same way you feel about Nyx and Hecate and I understand Eris for being mad and started the Trojan war because seriously why wouldn’t any one invite her to the wedding of ( I forgot) just because of what she’s the goddess of that’s stupid she can’t help the way she is they should except it and they would’ve done the same or well similar in some way if they were in Eris’s shoes. That’s why I feel for Eris she basically didn’t do any wrong and I love her for being her self and not putting up with the other gods and goddesses crap! 😎
Bobby Mattox ~ In some Greek traditions, Nyx and Hecate are seen as two sides of the same goddess, their names sometimes used together or interchangeably. You make an excellent point.
I'm so happy to see you did a video on Nyx. She isn't a goddess that everyone knows as well as Zeus and his siblings. One of my favorite fictional depictions of Nyx is in the House of Night book series. It doesn't have that much to do with Greek mythology, but I really enjoy the way she is depicted and the series overall is very good for people who like to read about vampires and magic.
That was my introduction to her and I have loved her ever since. I have always felt more comfortable and safe at night than I did during the day too. Need to read those books again. They are great.
I remember my interest started with "age of mythology" and my aunt offered me a huge book with greek mythos in it :D We had wikipedia at the time and it was still a bit "meh"

Chalres Kirkland I agree with you, I thought the Norns as well...I’m seeing a lot of parallel in both Greek and Norse...very interesting to do comparisons
I love hearing about Nyx, to see how the ancient Greeks perceived her through mythology. She has been a key figure who has helped me deal with my dad's passing, encouraging me to embrace the dark parts in myself completely without fear, and through that, embrace the whole of who I fully am. Then, the healing can begin, as fear of emotions only hightens the pain of feeling them.
There's a book series called The House of Night and there's a lot about Nyx in it. She's the goddess they worship and pray to in the books, but she's portrayed as a nicer deity in them
1:11 What's most intresting (well one of the most..) thing about greek myth is how that the first deities which were *embodiments of primeval darkness would be the ones to give birth to the first lights of the cosmos,* something that many worldbuilders don't seem to utilize very often. That thing being *"light from the darkness"* kinda theme.
knowledge comes from the ignorance of people which is the unknown which is from the unseen things that is from the darkness. it is just that people only know it when reading but don't put a lot of critical thinking just memorization
I had a dream where I'd met both Erebus and Nyx, before knowing who or what they were. They just wanted to watch people from afar, admiring their quirks and hobbies and casual days. They seemed happily married and awfully close, although Erebus was quiet and seemed somewhat shy or reserved
Oh, no! Nyx (Night) and Erebus (darkness) daughters were Aether (light) and Hemera (Day). Nyx created Hypnos (sleep) and Thanatos (death) from nowhere.
I am Wiccan and worship and honour many deity’s, as I work with moon energy’s and the night is when the moon is most abundant, Nyx is definitely a diety I would like to call upon to aid and protect me as I work ( work with divination, or spell work ) by the way for those who read this, Wicca is an earth based religion.
There's a series of young adult books called House of Night which uses Nyx not as the Goddess of the Night, but as the Goddess of Vampires spelled Vampyres. The mother and daughter co authors kept many of the beliefs of Nyx, they just made her as having chosen people to become vampires. They are marked to become a vampire. It doesn't always happen. Many do become vampyres while others do not. It depends on if the fledgling vampyre's body accepts or rejects the transformation. If the body rejects the transformation, it's painful and bloody and they die. If the body accepts the transformation, it's still painful, but the vampyre is considered an adult and they receive tattoos around their face. The fledglings are marked with a crescent moon. When they are adults the crescent moon is filled in with the color blue.
I rather like Nyx. As a scientist I find uncertainty inviting. It gives me something to explore. Whatever hides in the darkness is simply one more thing to understand. The Higgs boson was just such a thing that was hidden in the darkness and could only be speculated about through mathematics until we brought it out of the darkness with the LHC. Darkness and night are only what we haven't yet explored. Nyx can be our metaphorical guide.

I believe the mystery and darkness that shredded hers part of her and I completely agree that Nyx does a dad mystery 2 the darkness and to everything that goes bump in the night and do every secret that is hitting in it. I absolutely love when you bring videos about gods that I hardly knew existed.
I love this video. You did an awesome job at explaining more about her. I heard about her from house of night series and did not know much about her. I wish there were more stories about her to really know who she is.
Same here, lol. I was wondering if I was the only one. Seems like in the house of Night books she's portrayed as a more kindly, motherly deity than in the Percy Jackson books or the original myths where she seems scarier
With primeval deities it's always hard to come by a reasonably safe theory. My idea is that for most ancient peoples "void" didn't exist: it was either chaos (matter without shape) or creation (matter with a shape). Chaos must necessarily be the first deity. A deity who lived endlessly because matter without shape knows no time. The end of chaos is usually the birth of the two opposite ideas/gods of light and darkness. It doesn't mean that chaos dies, it just means that he retires to the edges of what is now creation. What is interesting about the Greek myth is that chaos doesn't generate light and darkness directly: he generates two forms of darkness and it is these two forms (Erebus and Nyx) who create light. The second point is that these early deities are often abstractions whereas the actual gods are individuals. This is probably why we have so little information about them and the relationship between abstractions and actual gods is always ambiguous and unclear.
looking at ancient Gods and Titans is great an all, but when are ya gonna go back to mythological critters? do the Selkie, or elves(the original ones with the holes in their backs or the more modern ones, I'm cool with either)
I like the mystery surrounding Nyx, often times a character or even a real life person lose something when you find out more about them. Get well soon.

I always loved nyx, honestly she's so interesting because you don't have many stories about her yet pretty important in the grand scheme of things so it's always made her one of my favorite Greek goddesses
I hope you get better soon. Also I've heard so many youtubers upset with TH-cam lately. Even with the bell notification on I receive it late. Here I was looking for a new name for my new pet. Nyx goes very well especially when she is pitch black 🖤
I would love to see your take on mythological archetypes (the trickster, the types of creation, etc) it’s a really nice topic of discussion and you could give ample examples of each archetype with gods of different mythologies and ongoing religions. Thank you for your content! I really like your videos
I've been playing a game with a playable character named NYX she can hypnotize enemies and turn them on each other, upon hearing that she's a goddess even Zeus wouldn't try mess with maybe the darkness can turn gods against each other. Though without any real connection to the deity other than the name I'm very impressed with Nyx(the goddess).
I like to imagine Nyx in 2 ways: 1: A over protective mother who loves her children like with Hypnos and a calm nature deity who does her job 2: The one from Persona 3, a violent god stronger than Zeus who brings humanity torture with her children, her giving birth to Death, Doom, Revenge, Suffering and Fate would explain that
I think Nyx is one of my fave goddesses. She had many kids though, I want know if they played an important part in mythology or a minimal one bc ya know they replaced a lot of them.
Nyx is my main patron deity and I love the knowledge you gathered and the respect you show. The way I perceive her can be summarized by my invocation of her: I feel your power, oh beautiful Night Lift me up into your Light A shadow in the shadows, Blessed Be Nothing is ever what it seems.
Having been often described as morose throughout my years, your mention of Morose as a child of Nyx really stood out to me. Would love to learn more of Morose and any stories or descriptions, particularly what aspects of doom are foremost in them. Thanks for your channel and proud to be a subscriber (but not too proud lest it be viewed as hubris!)
@@Nature-ws5uc dude Nyx is a primordial deity like Gaia and Tartarus they are the first then the Titans and then the gods and goddesses. she is older then Zeus because she is the Night and chaos is her father same with all her siblings her kids are Hypnos and so on

(I’m Greek) Btw your Channel is awesome.
Nyx is my favourite goddess 💜 (you know, as a character...not an actual goddess). Half of me wished I could hear more about her while the other half likes the mystery. That particular half is the creative side of me that likes to add my own interpretations to a character 😅
Her story continues through those who are of her own Energy. As we observe eachother, perhaps look at your own Energy or that of those around you may carry this...Darkness, perhaps you are the Daughter of Chaos or Some form of Underground powerful figure in your community. That person can be found in many of us...do we Create the Night or Day with what we carry from within...As Her own Offspring where of Light and Darkness...Meaning, those of Us who perhaps grew up on Darkness can use that influence as a Powerful force to create what maybe needed....sometimes disruption and chaos needs to Awaken folks from deep slumber.
@Happy Rambutan I see the message, but I am aware of the Fact that women are demoralized even in western Astrology, but not all Astrology do this... just the interpretation between ages either thrives or plummets. Energy is just energy...I do only speak in general sometimes, but even though I absolutely love Astrology I disagree with the way they chose to relat their stories for example: the moon and its energy being devalued by these Greeco Roman Society of men. Cancer is not a good way to describe Feminine energy, but there it is representing A sign that Represents Mothers. Just get a vibe that it was I'll intended. Hera/Juno (JUPITERS wife )Astroid reports back as a scorn jealous wife that kills Innocent children and families. If you remember Hercules fueled madness... And lost of family. Seems like women were always written as the the villain. (🤔💭 Bible) Or medusa's story of rape and exile...then death...too bad me too was not in her life time. I understand there are hidden meanings in the grand scheme of literature, but Sometimes situations match the Energy and we can use these and any story really that triggers Transformation In us. Lillith and Eve...both written as the bad guy.
Can't choose between Nyx and Eris being my favorite goddess ❤ I love Nyx so much I think she represents a wide spectrum of things (for me personally) ..Would you do Eris soon?! I'm dying to see a video on Eris🖤
Hypnos: "Hey Mom, funny story but I may have kinda ticked Zeus off...Just a little! Ehehe! Anyway I need somewhere to lay low for a while. Is it alright if I crash at your place for a while?...Just until the heat blows over?" Nyx: "(Sigh)...He finally calls me and its when he needs something. I swear you never see this from his sister Nemesis."
Trust me if she doesn't have enough stories, there has to be something going on, first knowing of her, seems she is out of our matter time and space, too powerful to attack on a small scale
Artefacts from the past are fascinating as we hear these sounds even today associated with many different activities that can be traced back to the original meaning assigned to them historically. It’s almost as if they represent aspects of the human condition in an archetype manner that shows us there is a pattern to the creation we find ourselves travelling within. Thank you for sharing.
Didn’t know who she was until she came to me in a dream. I was in a beautiful area of woods, and looked down around me and realized I was in the water, I went underwater and it turned nighttime and she was there swimming. I went above water and it was day. Freaked out I kept going below, above, below, above... that was years ago. So fast forward to a few days ago I was thinking about the dream and I got this thought “who is the goddess of night and day?” So I started researching. It came down to finding Nyx. Upon researching her I noticed my screensaver I had for 2months was also on this page of info! I had no clue! It was the weirdest revelation I’ve ever had... So I didn’t choose her as a patroness. She chose me I guess..,

In the P.C. Cast novels House of Night she is worshiped as the goddess of the vampires in the story
Dark Lord Angel i came from percy jackson lol
The House of Night novels are some of my favorite reads 😊
I believe the mystery and darkness that shredded hers part of her and I completely agree that Nyx does a dad mystery 2 the darkness and to everything that goes bump in the night and do every secret that is hitting in it. I absolutely love when you bring videos about gods that I hardly knew existed.
I wanted to know what they named the baby.
I love this video. You did an awesome job at explaining more about her. I heard about her from house of night series and did not know much about her. I wish there were more stories about her to really know who she is.
AlaskanChicka907 Me, too!!!!
Same here, lol. I was wondering if I was the only one. Seems like in the house of Night books she's portrayed as a more kindly, motherly deity than in the Percy Jackson books or the original myths where she seems scarier
Oh she's also in one of the Succubus Blues books by Richelle Mead and she's scary in those books too
With primeval deities it's always hard to come by a reasonably safe theory.
It would be awesome to see some more on Nyx. primordial goddess who instills fear in Zeus, please, give me more! 🤤😃
looking at ancient Gods and Titans is great an all, but when are ya gonna go back to mythological critters? do the Selkie, or elves(the original ones with the holes in their backs or the more modern ones, I'm cool with either)
I like the mystery surrounding Nyx, often times a character or even a real life person lose something when you find out more about them. Get well soon.
Nyx is dark and full of terrors.
giggity
Efraim I’m crying from this
Hah!! 😂😂😂😂 stop
kristopher barker get away melsandre!
R'HALLEOR THE LORD OF LIGHT 🔥
Nyx represents the night itself. Basically nyx is the word for night in ancient greek and i guess where the english word comes from.
I am grateful Nyx exists. She is just about everything we ever needed, or the mother of it.
Nyx is my favourite deity. She’s not often mentioned, at least not as often as other goddesses. I’m drawn to her, she’s intriguing 🖤
❤ yesss, yesss, yessssssss!!! Would really like for you to do another video with more content about her and to learn more about this goddess!! 👍🏾 Thank you!!! You are aweSome!!!
Idk if anyone else here shares my belief, but nyx is my favorite goddess. I definitely work with her more than any other.
I always loved nyx, honestly she's so interesting because you don't have many stories about her yet pretty important in the grand scheme of things so it's always made her one of my favorite Greek goddesses
This is great! Also please do myths of Native America
The air of mystery and uncertainty adds to her. Yet it helps me relate to her.
I hope you get better soon. Also I've heard so many youtubers upset with TH-cam lately. Even with the bell notification on I receive it late. Here I was looking for a new name for my new pet. Nyx goes very well especially when she is pitch black 🖤
this video changed my life in a way i can't explain thank you
FINALY, a video about Nyx
Literally always liked the idea of Nyx, one of my favourite deities
I love Nyx 🖤 I named my black kitty after her. Nyx, Hecate and Nemesis are the goddesses I've been studying lately. Thank you for this video 🙂🖤🙏🏼
I would love to see your take on mythological archetypes (the trickster, the types of creation, etc) it’s a really nice topic of discussion and you could give ample examples of each archetype with gods of different mythologies and ongoing religions.
Thank you for your content! I really like your videos
When I first heard of Nyx, I was 11 years old and reading P.C. & Kristin Cast’s House of Night series.
id like to see a long video about her unless one has already been made, recently ive been extremely interested in this type of thing
Addicted to your channel. Great job
Your stories are wonderful but your illustrations are incredible!
I didn't know this existed until today. My new favorite channel!
I like to imagine Nyx in 2 ways:
1: A over protective mother who loves her children like with Hypnos and a calm nature deity who does her job
2: The one from Persona 3, a violent god stronger than Zeus who brings humanity torture with her children, her giving birth to Death, Doom, Revenge, Suffering and Fate would explain that
Aha! I knew that sooner or later there would be a Persona 3 reference in a Nyx video.
"The Arcana is the means by which all is revealed."

I really enjoy listening to you tell the stories. Makes them that much more interesting, you make the stories come alive for me. Thank you!
I think Nyx is one of my fave goddesses. She had many kids though, I want know if they played an important part in mythology or a minimal one bc ya know they replaced a lot of them.
Nyx is my favorite primordial diete so i would like to see her more...
Good stuff! This channel is my most recent addiction.
No wonder now that Im older the night feels so calming.
i've only recently come across your channel. and i must say i'm loving it. i'm going to spend a lot of time this weekend watching your videos.
Wow I started watching st 14k now your 100k congratulations
Nyx is my main patron deity and I love the knowledge you gathered and the respect you show. The way I perceive her can be summarized by my invocation of her:
I feel your power, oh beautiful Night
Lift me up into your Light
A shadow in the shadows, Blessed Be
Nothing is ever what it seems.
personally, she is one of my favorite goddesses
Having been often described as morose throughout my years, your mention of Morose as a child of Nyx really stood out to me. Would love to learn more of Morose and any stories or descriptions, particularly what aspects of doom are foremost in them. Thanks for your channel and proud to be a subscriber (but not too proud lest it be viewed as hubris!)
Nyx is my favorite goddess 💙
Alexandra apocalypse she not a goddess
@@danjacob6635 She is she holds much power
@@Nature-ws5uc dude Nyx is a primordial deity like Gaia and Tartarus they are the first then the Titans and then the gods and goddesses. she is older then Zeus because she is the Night and chaos is her father same with all her siblings her kids are Hypnos and so on
I have thoroughly enjoyed this and all the other myth telling/explanation..Well done..Most exact detailing. I would like to hear about Aeolus and The Four Winds.
Nehta (nyx) who means night with erevos who mean despair made two opposite children to them. As erevos and nehta (nyx) was dark and misery they create
Etheras (male, god of happiness) and hemera *ημερα* (female, goddess of day) to bring happiness. As I remember from school hehe. (I’m Greek)
Btw your Channel is awesome.
@@joshuabarata304 why for?
Love the philosophical elements discussed here related to this goddess and night and darkness in general.
Nyx was intimidating, but her daughter Nemesis was truly terrifying...
There’s a book series called the house of night and the goddess nyx is apart of it one of my favorite books of all time
Nyx is my favourite goddess 💜 (you know, as a character...not an actual goddess). Half of me wished I could hear more about her while the other half likes the mystery. That particular half is the creative side of me that likes to add my own interpretations to a character 😅
The mystery powerful. She is born of Chaos and mother of all darkness. That is more than enough. She was, is and will be forever.
The Mother of All that Everything comes from is Infinite possibility...
@Mythology & Fiction Explained
Thank you for this video it was very helpful and informative, keep up the good work!
Mythological Gods like Nyx is the reason why I love Greek Mythology more than Christianity.
Congrats on 100k subs! I knew this channel would grow and it will continue to! Thank you for the awesome content you give us! 😃💜
(🤔💭 Bible)
Or medusa's story of rape and exile...then death...too bad me too was not in her life time.
I understand there are hidden meanings in the grand scheme of literature, but Sometimes situations match the Energy and we can use these and any story really that triggers Transformation In us.
Lillith and Eve...both written as the bad guy.
I love all this knowledge I absolutely am infatuated with your channel ❤️
Can't choose between Nyx and Eris being my favorite goddess ❤ I love Nyx so much I think she represents a wide spectrum of things (for me personally) ..Would you do Eris soon?! I'm dying to see a video on Eris🖤
"It's pretty common from ppl to say that they are afraid of the dark. But it's not the dark, it's what lies in the dark that they're afraid of".
Nyx and Hemera,Eris is my fav🙂
The only happy family that l imagine.
Hypnos: "Hey Mom, funny story but I may have kinda ticked Zeus off...Just a little! Ehehe! Anyway I need somewhere to lay low for a while. Is it alright if I crash at your place for a while?...Just until the heat blows over?"
Nyx: "(Sigh)...He finally calls me and its when he needs something. I swear you never see this from his sister Nemesis."
You have a new fan, me. Nyx is my favorite Goddess in Greek mythos .
Good stuff. I'd like to learn more!
Trust me if she doesn't have enough stories, there has to be something going on, first knowing of her, seems she is out of our matter time and space, too powerful to attack on a small scale
She exists in other myths as well collect them all and piece it together
This is the first time I hear about Nyx and I like her.
I don't know if you have done a video of her or not but would you consider doing a video of the deity Mnemosyne the goddess of memory? :D
Beautiful voice. Makes the videos more interesting. Thank you for the mythology lessons.
Do dionysus I love him he is my favorite olympain please do him next
Thank you so much for doing a video about my Goddess NYX
The stars cannot be seen anymore where i live so i pray to Nyx that she restores the night sky
Nyx sounds truly brilliant and mysterious. She is one of the most interesting and terrifying gods of greek mythology.
so is she dark matter/energy?
She chose me I guess..,
Perhaps your within her blood line. You should do more research and pray to her.
@@jasminithier3109 how could she have a bloodline
@Honk Honk hellenism is still very much an active religion LMFAO not everyone is christian babe
