Hades Is by far the kindest of his brothers. Hades is loyal, and provides shelter in Elysium to those who did good in life, and punished the evil souls with damnation in Tartarus. He provided wealth and second chances, and when respected would be reasonable. Hades is the only one of his brothers willing to take the short end of the stick, both literally and metaphorically.
Hades shows a much better moral compass than Zeus. He loves and honours his wife, is fair to his subjects, and doesn't create drama. I have to say, I don't like many portrayals of him in film because they treat him unfairly.
@@brandonproductions8401 I KNOW. Dude, the God of War people are the only people who seem to know their stuff when it comes to accurately portraying these gods.
The Percy Jackson series and the "Class of the Titans" animated series AND "Mythic warriors: Guardians of the legend" are all the very few pieces of pop culture that really did him JUSTICE.

Josh Igbinijesu He was cold and stern. Not an evil god, considering he is depicted more passive than evil. The man was always about the law of the dead, I wouldn't say cruel..
He was definitely cruel as he was known for taking people to the underworld for saying his name. Maybe not, but I can't say I understand the debate around this.

dude I know right lol even though he technically kidnapped Persephone, that was the only bad thing he did that I can think of and at least he treated her well and anyone would look good in comparison to the rest of the asshole Olympian's
I'm extremely fond of Hades. He's a chill king/god who loves his wife, keeps his promises, doesn't just give handouts, and apparently is somewhat of a dork - he named his three-headed guard dog 'Spot', for goodness' sake. Shame he gets shunted into the 'bad guy' role in a lot of modern fiction.

I think Hades is a misunderstood god. I think he is one of the most interesting gods in greek mythology. I also love Hades and Persephone's relationship it is truly a beautiful one despite he did trick her.
Persephone was in a love triangle with Aphrodite and Adonis, took him as a lover while being married to Hades. Look into it, still a beautiful relationship?
Zeus: (trying to avoid responsibility of his own hubris from Hera and constantly dealing with the shit show he's mostly responsible for on Mt. Olympus) Hades: (sitting comfortably in absolutely gorgeous palace in the Underworld with his beautiful wife to whom he's actually faithful to, his awesome dog, and surrounded by servants and the souls of the dead who he treats fairly) Hades is the best. Too bad people automatically equate him to Lucifer and think he's evil.
I also read somewhere that when the three brother gods Zeus, Poseidon, and Hades divided up the world that they drew lots to get the different parts of earth. They say that none of the three wanted the Underworld as their domain so Zeus and Poseidon tricked Hades into drawing the short lot so that he would be stuck ruling the Underworld. And that was a part of the reason why he was so sad and morbid all the time and why he never goes to Mount Olympus because of the grudge he holds against his brothers for basically betraying him in such an unfair act. .... Great vid btw really like your channel!
I, too, read somewhere that after he was betrayed, Hades still had enough power to overthrow Zeus but, due to his love and respect for his brother, he just kept the Underworld.
No matter the depictions and bad images this god has gotten over the years in media, Hades is still better in comparison to a majority of the other gods -lookin' at you Zeus-
Zeus is My King Zeus may be the king of the gods, and the king of Olympus, but you have to admit that for all his grandeur and power he isn’t really the best at controlling his temper, and his other brother Poseidon seems to have much the same issue though to a lesser extent. Hades is by far the best of all three and also the most level headed. He has the power to unleash an army of literally everyone who has ever died in the history of the world, stop people from dying, and drag literally everything made of anything found under the earth’s surface directly to him. With all of that, I think Hades can do far more damage to the world than either of his two brothers and that it is a damn good thing he keeps a lid on his temper
Axel Lopez Garcia false! He never touched Hestia, who is an eternal virgin, and he never raped Hera, he married her and made her his wife. Demeter, on the other hand, is the only sister Zeus did in fact rape, and Persephone was the result. Poseidon raped Demeter too you know, though I forget the name of the child that resulted from that event
razor edge Zeus is a shitty guy by most standards, but the one thing he would never do is allow his eldest sister to be raped even by himself. He’s done a lot of things as king of the gods but he would never do something that might jeopardize his own rule
razor edge In one version, Persephone was kidnapped and raped by Hade however she ultimately forgive him and later married him. Despite that incident, he was actually a good husband.
Hades is the true worthy king of Olympus. If he were to ever rise up against the tyranny of Zeus, I would support him fully. The kidnapping of Persephone was his worst and only true crime, and that was on advice of his youngest (or, going by second birth out of Kronos, oldest) brother - and after the fact he has been nothing if not faithful to his wife, even granting co-rulership, something that Zeus wouldn't even dream of giving to Hera. On top, by birth, Hades is the firstborn. He is worthy of the title and would make a just and fair monarch; he is less stricken by pride and arrogance and selfish greed than Zeus is, I would argue, and is altogether a superior deity.
Not only that, but the epithet of Persephone used to refer to her as Hades’ wife (“Melindia”) derives from the Ancient Greek word for “honey”. So not only did he name his dog Spot, but he also calls his wife “honey”! 🥰
Yay Hades he’s my favourite I don’t know why but I always imagined him to be a good guy just because he lives underground, has a huge 3 headed dog and controls the land of the dead doesn’t mean he’s evil. I mean even Persephone decided to stay with him. It’s not like Hades deserved to get the short straw to rule the underground lol 😂 he’s actually helped a load of people with their quests and unlike Zeus doesn’t interfere with humans. #TeamHades
well, +Subarna Chatterjee Hades (perhaps) is the most respected god in Greek myth in my opinion. he get the job done and just mess with people who mess with him. unlike his little brothers and his nephews, he's faithful to his wife and committed with his relationship while he forced to separated from his wife each 6 or 3 months a year.
Zeus has thunderbolts. Poseidon has A trident. Athena has a shield. Hades has: - Invisbility helmet - A powerful three headed dog - A Two forked staff - a chariot of dark horses
And the chariot of dark horses or black stallions can fly fast in the air & on the ground as well & not to mention #Hades(Pluto)'s pitched forked which makes him invincible + he also helped other #God's to defeat the #Titans who were his own God brother's like Mighty #Zeus(Jupiter) & #Poseidon(Neptune).
Poseidon has a trident that can make storms and causes earthquakes. Zeus has an infinite use bolt of electricity. Hades has an invisibility helm,a stick with no powers, and a large 3 headed dog.
Oldest and wisest brother of three. He was wise ruler, fair and just of his kingdom. Good magistrate of his realm. Sadly his kingdom was not most appealing to ladys, so he used his tricks to get married ... mothers didn't liked him as Persephone mother was not happy with him, but he was good husband, loyal and respectful to his wife. He is lesson of how what we fear the most is what we don't know and dont want to know, death itself and attempting deautise during our life, but our fears are unjust because death will treat us how we treat others while we were alive.
Even though I'm Greek and I've read almost everything of our mythology, I've always thought of Hades as the most pure hearted god ... the only time he used somewhat of a deceiving method was to keep the person he fell in love with by his side
The only thing he ever took for himself was companionship. And no one can convince me that he didn't willingly let the others wrangle the amount of time she spent there down when he could've rained all kinds of Hell/Tartarus/whatever upon Olympus if he wasn't generous. Her consistent presence at his side ruling the realm is quite telling.
@@BlermanBlerman-dz8mi it's... It's Greek **Myth**ology. It's not even a religion any more. It doesn't support any science in a form. How...How is it not just a myth and a good story.
Hades didn’t trick Persephone, he showed her his true self and she fell in love with him for his true self. Persephone saw a side to Hades that no other has ever seen. Edit: I understand that you’ve read a different version of it than I have, you don’t need to comment about it.
From what I know the oldest version of the myth involves Persephone being fed up with Demeter being so overprotective that she runs away and finds and entrance to the underworld in a meadow. She wonders for a bit before she finds and encounters Hades who asks her “pretty girl what are you doing here you are not dead” she tells him everything and then declares she lives in the underworld and no matter how much Hades said it would be better for her if she left she refused every time. Hades showed her great hospitality and eventually the two fell in love and got married. Hades told Persephone that if Demeter found out she may never be able to see him again. When she ask if they is a way to stay with him he tells about the underworld food and she willingly eats 6 pomegranates. When Demeter finds Persephone she orders Hades gives her back and refuses to allow harvest until she is returned. Zeus gets involved and seeing and neither Persephone or Demeter would back down Hades and Zeus come up with the idea that Persephone will spend 6 months in the underworld and 6 months in Olympus. I prefer this story as it shows that Hades is willing to sacrifice his happiness temporarily so that the mortals do not die of starvation and also portrays Persephone as strong willed which make sense as Persephone was feared more than Hades because of how cruel her punishments could be.
FoxTrot Gaming Not only that, but on the ONE occasion in mythology in which Hades’ fidelity to Persephone is put to the test (by Minthe, and even then by all accounts Minthe had no lasting success with Hades), Persephone wasted no time putting a stop to it and getting rid of the would-be mistress, which by all accounts didn’t really bother Hades at all. IMHO it doesn’t make sense for Persephone to get jealous like that or for Hades to be okay with Persephone doing such a thing if their whole marriage was really based entirely on kidnapping and coercion.
@@foxtrotgaming1283 Have you ever watched the the show Castlevania? The story of Dracula and Lisa are very similar to the tale you shared with us. It's not exactly the same, I don't want to ruin the plot in case you want to watch it.
I mean there is a whole religion where you can talk to dieities like Hades, Persephone, Hera, Zeus, etc and other witchcraft, I doubt all of them speak to him but you never know.
Hades & Persephone are my favorite mythological couple. I’ve even tattooed an anklet chain round my ankle due to the Jungian theory based on archetypes relating to ones personality & relationship-type. I never saw myself as Persephone-type until Jung described her. It was a remarkable discovery
I think Hades has always been misunderstood, he has proven to be just and fair. People seem to want to associate death with evil but it is just part of the cycle of change that living beings go through in this existence and someone had to be in charge of the Underworld it just became his responsibility.
Sometimes I think if Osiris was depicted wearing black clothes and a fork staff then popular media would be vilifying him as well. He essentially was very similar to Hades in terms of personality and role in mythology and unlike Hades was a zombie.
I think the game Hades does a really good job depicting the real personality of Hades: stern, fair, and deep down emotionally receptive to others. As one who deals with death, he understands the value of life to mortals. The gods of Olympus are too busy living their own lives to care for the lives of their followers. Not as often as they should, anyhow. Unless they are someone the gods like, love, or want to bed.
Hades is also my favorite male god out of all of them. I agree that he is most misunderstood because of his position. However, in a game that I play called Goddess primal chaos, Hades is a companion (if so choose) to fight along side you as a Hero. So it proves that Hades has the view as a helper or (as you said in the video) a peron who can give others a chance to get what they want. I hope Hades gets a lighter view as a person in the future...
blame Disney about that. they even make MR. cunt mcbastard who punch everyone on the face aka Herakles a major hero. he nothing but a gigantic asshole with bird brain and anger issue of teenager.
Zeus is my king, while it’s true that Zeus is king that is because he tricked Hades when the three drew straws. And unlike Zeus Hades is not as largely effected by Eros (who can basically jerk Zeus around like a puppet)
cjheaford. There's lots versions of the story, however a majority of them say he tricked her into eating a pomegranate to keep her in the underworld and didn't rape her.
The sad part is he actually wanted to meet Persephone in person and propose to her like we do now but Zeus being the middle aged frat boy that he was goaded him into pulling that stupid stunt which must have really scared the daylights out of his daughter (father of the year folks). In some versions Hades realized his folly and when seeing how shell-shocked Persephone was quickly apologized and assured her she was in no danger.
@Descartes' Apparition Because when they translated to English they used "rape" since it also means kidnapping (it's obsolete now). No variant of the myth says that Hades forced himself on Persephone in a sexual way. Matter of fact most tell how he showered her in gifts and gold and actually treated her as his equal, no less, no more.
Growing up I was always shown that he was the villain, the evil one of the story but now more and more I read about him I favor him more over the other gods...
I like Hades the most out of the Greek gods, he just wants to peacefully rule his kingdom, keep the living out and the dead in, respect, protect, and care for the good ones, justly punish the bad, and most importantly just chill with his wife. He also has all he ever wants, a lovely wife, a huge kingdom, and ALL the wealth in the world.
I remember hearing a bit more detail of the story of Orpheus. Orpheus had played so beautifully, that an iron tear fell down Hades' cheek. When he left with his wife, Eurydice, he did as he was told. He did not look back throughout his entire trip out of the underworld. Once he was outside, he turned around to see his wife. Unbeknownst to him, she was still a step too far behind. She was still in the underworld. Hades' condition was that both Orpheus and his wife were to be out of the underworld before he could look. So his moment of joy was cut short, as she was dragged back down to Hades. Gotta love the old Greek stories lol
I don't like Hades, I LOVE him! For me, he has always been one of my Top 5 favorite Greek gods, like honestly he was completely misunderstood as he was indeed quite just and fair, if one cares to read myths that feature him... equivalent exchange basically. I could spend hours talking about him...ohhh ohh make a video of Themis if you can, she's equally awesome.
honestly... I think Hades would have made a better king to rule the gods then Zeus. Zeus is a selfish jerk who only thinks with his dick, He gives people really bad advice and he spends more time cheating turning into animals and cheating on his wife, then actually being somewhat productive. Hades, on the other hand, is fair and just and will gladly help others if they can earn it, and even when Zeus told him to kidnap Persephone and force her to marry him, she gave her space and never raped her unlike what her father/ his brother would do. Hades knows where to draw the line between right and wrong.
The first and last born of Cronus. Hades on the eve of the Titanomanchy donned the Helm of Darkness and alone stole over to the titan side and sabotaged their war machines. Unlike his brothers (Zeus and Poseidon) Hades was chaste and then faithful to his wife Persephone. Unlike his brothers, Hades showed no fits of passion or bad judgement; he could be cruel but was always just.
Hades, along with Medusa, have to be the two most misunderstood characters in Greek Mythology. In my opinion, they would be perfect examples of the saying "don't judge a book by its cover".
I agree with you he honestly seems like very chill and the best of the brothers he is very fair, good men and most of all doesn't start drama and keeps his promise's just all around good guy
I feel as though the 90s Hercules: legendary journeys is the most accurate portrayal of Hades. Neutral, serious in personality. But above all else, fair.
If you’re interested in other non-evil portrayals of Hades, here are a few more that I know of off the top of my head: *LORE OLYMPUS ::* This comic on WEBTOONS centers primarily around the budding romance of Hades and Persephone in a modern-ish setting, with the mortal realm set in Ancient Greece while Olympus and the Underworld are portrayed as relatively modern (with Hades as the king/CEO of the latter). Hades is portrayed as having a lot of emotional baggage, including trauma from his ordeal with Kronos, but all in all he’s portrayed reasonably well given the setting. *MYTHIC WARRIORS: GUARDIANS OF THE LEGEND ::* Hades doesn’t get all that much screen time in this show aside from the Hades/Persephone episode, but by all accounts he’s generally portrayed as an okay guy and somewhat socially awkward before and during his interactions with Persephone. In fact, he gets extra brownie points here for explicitly NOT wanting to keep Persephone in the underworld against her will (though he does make every possible effort to persuade her to stay) and is super-pissed at the villain of that episode (a lizard-guy who wanted to get back at Demeter for something she did in the past) for tricking Persephone into eating the seeds, for which he promptly punishes said villain. *CLASS OF THE TITANS ::* TBH I haven’t seen much of this series, but by all accounts Hades is clearly not in a villainous role (the main villain being Kronos) and is overall portrayed as a pretty chill guy. My only real complaint about his portrayal here would probably be his voice (he’s portrayed as having a very high-pitched voice with a semi-British accent), but even then I can more or less let it slide, mainly because it adds to the cuteness factor of all his lovey-dovey moments with Persephone whenever they’re onscreen together.
Why do people in modern social media try and portray Hades as someone evil? He’s not exactly evil or “the devil” he just collects souls and guides those to their next place. Either in Elysium (which is like Heaven) and the Tartarus (like Hell) He is a misunderstood figure. He embraces the good in those and values life. Why do you think he is the god of the underworld and souls? Yes he may have kidnapped Persephone..but he showed his true actions and emotions later on. She was never tricked and saw his real true self. He even has a better relationship with Persephone than Zeus has with Hera.
@Descartes' Apparition Did some quick googling, couldn't find any poems of Persephone being "brutally snatched and carried off" all I could find were the usual tales of Hades snatching her in a chariot.
@@jaxthewolf4572 well that’s just fear and ignorance and if you think that then you are small mindedness. a spirit isn’t automatically evil nor is a god. a gif like say anubis or hades is not evil they are just rulers over their perspective underworld realm and they guide spirits (people) to their next life or fate. you’re confusing that with demons or demonic things which Anubis, spirits, and hades is not.
@@kekku2104 I hope you don't think I myself have this belief because I agree with you. Im talking about the fact that people often conflate these beings with evil. I have always have had an issue with the belief that death gods are automatically seen as evil especially when they are just doing their job and normally give off a calm and gentle presence. I guess the fear of death, has led to the belief that it is linked to evil and darkness. People demonize what frightens them and it's normally unjustified.
“Life is what gives death meaning, as Death is what gives life meaning”. Hades is needed to keep the balance. Though ever so moving & is never stagnate for doing so would destroy the entire cosmos. This is why, as with all the Gods/Goddesses of the world, a duality lies within them. Purity at its most rawest form is rare and that is one of many things Hades fancies. You can see this by look at his wife, Persephone. M He reminds me of Loki, misunderstood.
A fitting choice, then, for him to be smitten by the goddess of spring and life, smitten so far as give her her own kingdom to rule over with him down in hades.
Hades is the hunkiest of the three major Olympians. He is also the most hung of them with a reputation for extreme sexual endurance, intense sexual prowess, and total active passion in bed. How can you not like a man like that?
I dont believe that he is not that powerful, simply because he is not interested of anything and just give way to his other brothers . he prefer to be distant to them and focus on his own kingdom. he is cold and stoic maybe because he knew well how the relationship of his relatives works ,were obviously he is so against it. and he is by far has the most respected God for me. he never use his God status to go collecting women like his other brothers do.
It is so easy for Zues or Apollo to be good and gracious, for they have it all well; up in heaven with women and wine. But Hades, in spite of being shunned, loathed, and disrespected, deserves all respect, for he respects others and considers their merit. It seems Zeus and his kin are moody; favouring handsome mortals without merit. They pronounce their wrath at the smallest inconveniences. Hades, the most inconvenienced, manages to keep calm and collected. He favours the worthy. He lives umder, but shows character virtue above his brothers.
I don't know why but whenever I try to picture Hades the image that forms in front of me is somewhat a tall, pale and a handsome man wearing black robe appears 🤷♀️ *he's my favourite god*
I agree with you when you said Hades is misunderstood! I think he is misunderstood because of the realm he watches over is considered evil. I am sure there are things he has done that might not have been the best thing to do but, like you said never turned someone away in there time of need. They just had to earn it. Not everything can be given for free.

You can also see Satan as someone who causes struggle in humanity, but without struggle there is no progress and no evolution of ideas. It is in a way a nessassery evil that makes humans strive to be better then what they are.
Hades had me inspired to write a tale where he’s neither good or evil. He’s in disguise among men, though he can be manipulative, but he also charismatic.
more than fair and just, in many ways honorable. The hermit king of sorts. at least in what little ive read. though the last regurgitated, he was the first born. And by most patriarchal laws at the time as the eldest son of cronos, should have inherited Olympus, and could have contested the drawing of lots. But being far more fair than most the other gods, accepted his lot as the god of the underworld, preferring the isolation of his own domain. Atleast from what little ive read. Out of most of the Greek gods Hades is one of my faverate. Despite having a bad rap, even in ancient times, he seems by far the most honest. Even being faithful to Persephone(atleast as far as ive read) unlike zeus and Poseidon who both raped woman in many stories and had affairs. He is as honest as he is clever, and a loner. As a hermit myself, hades has always resonated with me.

What I always respected about Hades is that he ACTUALLY DID HIS JOB Zeus and Poseidon were always busy with fucking up everything they could, whilst Hades actually spent time in his realm, doing what he was meant to

Back in our college days, my (now) husband went to Greece. When he asked me what he should bring back, I said a statue of Hades (because I was a classics student and thought it'd be funny). He did manage to find a Hades statue (paper weight sized), but said he had to look all over Greece because Hades is likened to Satan there, and still isn't popular. Also had a lot of people correct him that he was looking for a statue of Pluton.
Hades should been the appropriate God of the sky plus thin about who really killes hercules wife and child out of confusion ARES not the obvious answer Hades wh o would you think for most part enjoy seeing that or being a part of that but if you asked hades he was like Ares got my great niece killed, he kratos hold these ciffs Ares needs to die
I had prayed wondering about Hades specifically. Going through some different idea processes. Why was he god of the underworld? Did he choose it or was he punished? Who was he really! This came to me and answered some of those questions. Hercules came to me last May in 2019 and it makes me happy in my heart to know that he asked for Hades permission and also returned Cerberus first upon taking him. I’m not familiar with Greek Mythology but it has subtly followed me around. Also, I have much love for the gods, but I’m realizing that they are just oversized humans who act even more volatile and vain than a human. That does not settle with me very well. I do take into consideration what must be done was done for the evolution of events to play out? Why was it so necessary and what if events were different? How would that impact out consciousness we know today?
Zeus chose his domain first, and Hades was left with the Underworld despite being the oldest. I think part of why Erebus didn't argue about this, even though he could have made a strong case and even had a chance in a fight over it, is because of what came with the different domains. Had he taken Zeus' place he would have had Zeus' responsibilities, whether or not Zeus was good with those responsibilities is another matter. But Hades wasn't interested in that. There was power there, sure, but there was also power in the Underworld and far more wealth. There was potential for growth which Olympus lacked. Hades is far more patient, more level-headed, and probably realized that Zeus' greed and ambition worked to Hades' own advantage. Hades has a palace and a constantly growing population as it is his world which the dead go to. Zeus has a bunch of gods that may or may not want him dead and a large population of demigods with daddy issues.
I have always wanted to learn about the Greek God and Greek Mythology but I always found the videos and books really hard to understand (mostly because the book didn't make any sense or the video was too long/ too short) but your videos have made it so much easier and widened my knowledge about Greek Gods & Mythology so much. So thank you and please carry on making these videos. :)
try the Percy Jackson Series it was my introduction to Greek Mythology it gives you a basic understanding of what the gods and Myths are about but with small twists. I find that once you have an image of what someone is like its easier to watch or read the actual Myths.
Hades is a just and relatively caring god when compared to his siblings. He made the underworld a reward or punishment depending on the kind of person was. The other gods are petty and squabble amongst themselves.
@Xbox: Tvrsa Yea i agree....I feel like the only god who could rival Zeus is Poseidon....I started liking him after Reading percy jackson books and you're also right...the 2nd layer(Mantle),3rd layer(Outer core) and 4th layer(Inner core) of earth is prob his kingdom....which is huge but its not, compare to Poseidon and Zeus
Zeus was the most powerful as is evident in his being able to overcome a rebellion by the other gods. Poseidon was Zeus's greatest rival. Hades just wasn't involved

Remember that Ancient Greece isn't a Homogeneous Static unchanging Culture, Symbolism and Importance of Certain themes Changed with time... I Mean Once upon a Time Dionysus was a God of Madness and Mystery, not Just Booze Fueled Frat Parties... I'd also Argue that Hades is the Member of the "Big 3" who APPEARS to be the Weakest, But really, Isn't. Where Zeus's Iconic Relic is the Thunderbolt, which is Essentially the "Ultimate Single target DPS Weapon". Poseidon's is his Trident, which can more or Less be Described as the "Ultimate Tool for Crowd Control/AoE DPS on a Mass Scale", Since it Create Earthquakes, and Controls the Waters of the Sea and the Weather... Hades's Special "Weapon" Though is a HELMET, which Makes him Invisible, his Iconic power is Literally to Go unnoticed Even by the most Perceptive of Gods and Titans... As Far as we know, he is the only Entity on the whole of Mythology who is Invisible to the Eyes of Fate itself(Despite the Plot of the Disney Version). Now Tell me, does that Seem "Weak" to you? Also, Remember that all 3 of the Brothers were Needed to Defeat Chronos and they Split the World in 3 Among themselves, but did not Feel the Need to give anything to the Other Gods and Titans that Helped them win the War with the Titans... Now why Would Poseidon and Zeus Give Hades Anything at all if he was in Deed Weaker than them? Why not Stiff him like they did all their other allies? Was it Perhaps because they Knew that if their Honorable Big Brother Ever Felt He'd Been Disrespected that there was nothing Either one of them could do to Stop him from enacting Invisible Justice Upon them?
I think for me, Hades is the most powerful because mortals can get away when they don't wanna worship a god (Ahem Sisyphus) but not Hades because whether they like it or not at the end of the day, they will bow down to Hades when their time has come.
I remember Hades is actually more powerful than Zeus, and he was originally supposed to be the one who ruled Olympus, but he gave up the chance because he didn't want to see his siblings fighting over thrones, like they went through with their father, and the Titans. So he choose the underworld, because someone has to take the job.
Hades is one of the few good gods in mythology. I love him. He deserves so much more love.. Most other gods in mythology - and even religions - are just selfish, mega-narcissistic jerks.
Hades is one of my favorites, and it's a shame about all of the misconceptions about him. Thank you for the information on his weapon. This is the first time I had ever heard he wielded a bident. I knew the scythe was attributes to Thanatos, but I always thought Hades had some sort of scepter.
It was Persephone who convinced him to create Elysium as a place for the most worthy souls to go.

And that was a part of the reason why he was so sad and morbid all the time and why he never goes to Mount Olympus because of the grudge he holds against his brothers for basically betraying him in such an unfair act. ....
It was Zeus idea to let Hades kidnapped Persephone

Hades didn’t trick Persephone, he showed her his true self and she fell in love with him for his true self. Persephone saw a side to Hades that no other has ever seen.
Edit: I understand that you’ve read a different version of it than I have, you don’t need to comment about it.
In some myths it was kind of consensual (she got tricked but fell in love with him) but in most depictions of the myth she was just kidnapped by him.
I think it’s both

Poor hades, everyone focuses on how he kidnapped his wife but this was in a time when kidnapping your spouse really was very common among gods
The sad part is he actually wanted to meet Persephone in person and propose to her like we do now but Zeus being the middle aged frat boy that he was goaded him into pulling that stupid stunt which must have really scared the daylights out of his daughter (father of the year folks).

If you’re interested in other non-evil portrayals of Hades, here are a few more that I know of off the top of my head:
*LORE OLYMPUS ::* This comic on WEBTOONS centers primarily around the budding romance of Hades and Persephone in a modern-ish setting, with the mortal realm set in Ancient Greece while Olympus and the Underworld are portrayed as relatively modern (with Hades as the king/CEO of the latter).
Madame Requiem do not forget the game Hades(supergiant) where he is portrayed as an overprotective controlling father/husband
I have a soft spot for Hades, Medusa and Hecate.
And Hestia, she's one of the few wholesome Gods in the Greek Pantheon.

Why do people in modern social media try and portray Hades as someone evil? He’s not exactly evil or “the devil” he just collects souls and guides those to their next place. Either in Elysium (which is like Heaven) and the Tartarus (like Hell)
He is a misunderstood figure. He embraces the good in those and values life. Why do you think he is the god of the underworld and souls? Yes he may have kidnapped Persephone..but he showed his true actions and emotions later on. She was never tricked and saw his real true self. He even has a better relationship with Persephone than Zeus has with Hera.
None of these people have read “Lore of Olympus”
@Descartes' Apparition Did some quick googling, couldn't find any poems of Persephone being "brutally snatched and carried off" all I could find were the usual tales of Hades snatching her in a chariot.
Gods and spirits associated with death and the dead are often seen as evil....like Anubis and Hel
M
He reminds me of Loki, misunderstood.
A fitting choice, then, for him to be smitten by the goddess of spring and life, smitten so far as give her her own kingdom to rule over with him down in hades.
I love Hades man, he doesn’t really deserve his bad rep
once again, blame Disney and his gigolo asshole of his little brother.
razor edge: Disney's always getting the facts (real or mythological) wrong.
Veronica George Disney has to change it since in Greek mythology it is extremely messed up all throughout.
Mr.awesome Reacts : point taken.

Probably not since Zeus would throw a hisiy fit if he found out about how people talk about him
I dont believe that he is not that powerful, simply because he is not interested of anything and just give way to his other brothers . he prefer to be distant to them and focus on his own kingdom. he is cold and stoic maybe because he knew well how the relationship of his relatives works ,were obviously he is so against it. and he is by far has the most respected God for me. he never use his God status to go collecting women like his other brothers do.
I'm a huge fan of hades . This started in middle school. Ms. Evan's my literature teacher piqued my interest in Greek mythology.
I don't know why but whenever I try to picture Hades the image that forms in front of me is somewhat a tall, pale and a handsome man wearing black robe appears 🤷♀️

I agree with you when you said Hades is misunderstood! I think he is misunderstood because of the realm he watches over is considered evil. I am sure there are things he has done that might not have been the best thing to do but, like you said never turned someone away in there time of need. They just had to earn it. Not everything can be given for free.
This guy is the very reason I started reading and got hooked with Greek mythology.. #TeamHades
I also feel that Hades was very misunderstood. And in his own way he was rather Charming
true there.

i mean, how you court or even flirt with the girls if your own name can cause or synonymous with death and have title as ruler of the underworld?

@Jin Kazama true.
the emo dude has more control than his lil bros.
Athena is far more evil than Hades.
Hell ya bruh
True
Did Athena have to turn Medusa into a monster? Poseidon is the one who raped Medusa, and Medusa wouldn't stand a chance against a god.

I'm a Hades fun, I just love him for how cool n chilling he is.
I always liked Hades, that was likely because Persephone was always my favorite :)
Hades is the hunkiest of the three major Olympians. He is also the most hung of them with a reputation for extreme sexual endurance and intense sexual prowess.
What I always respected about Hades is that he ACTUALLY DID HIS JOB
Zeus and Poseidon were always busy with fucking up everything they could, whilst Hades actually spent time in his realm, doing what he was meant to
Hades unlike Zeus has more then earned my respect boft as a King and a judge he Rules with a ferm hand
In the Underworld all are equal
People confuse him with satan, a completely different character altogether.

Do you think the Disney version of Hades is based more on Satan than he is on the Greek god?
Hades is considered my 1st favorite god.
Hades: that misunderstood uncle who you never talk about or try to understand
Zeus and Poseidon seem more like villains then Hades.
Don't worry, although Kratos didn't leave Hades out, Zeus and Poseidon got what they deserved.
@@KG-ds2fj I always thought Kratos was just the personification of authoritative strength (and inspiration for the God of War series Kratos) and not a legit Greek deity o: or maybe it's more complicated than that.

I thought so too. It seems you just have to be respectful to him.
Zeus and Poseidon were good rapers
Well I think Zeus is b y f a r the worst Olympian out of the three
My favorite in greek mythology, there was this strip about Hades and his conquests ruler of the underworld, he is not always depicted as a villain more like a anti-hero as the one that is most down to reality, like the cool tough guy that you can never blame.
I Like Hades i feel like he's really misunderstood, he is really fair and he just gives people what they want as long as they are worthy and he tests them on that i respect that i definitely like him more than Zeus and Poseidon who raped and impregnated so many other women .

Agree - there's a theory that he didn't raped the daughter of Diameter , that's zues action but being Hades of the Underworld he received the blame .
The theory has it's strength in Hades not being able to reproduce .Idk .
He also named his dog spotted or spot, no truly evil person names their dog that

I am very fond of Hades. Like most misunderstood things he tends to be vilified a lot but he was a good and loyal husband to Persephone, unlike his two more popular brothers who tended to stray.
Hades is my favorite greek god! Thanks for the video! For me, hades is a decent and fair god. People just misunderstood him because he's the god of the underworld/death. What makes him better is that he stayed loyal to Persephone.
P.S. I love your voice! I was smiling while you were narrating hades history 😊
I'm glad you enjoyed the video Hannah
Hades is definitely my favorite Great Grandson.
lmao
Dude where were you when your children had love issues?
What?
Hades is the tamest of gods like seriously: Zeus: ima cheat on my wife every chance I get. Hera: ima terrorize all of his helpless lovers. Apollo: this may be the only love Artemis ever has... so ima make her kill her lover. Artemis: wow my brother tricked me into killing my lover.. guess I’ll hate all men now. Aphrodite: dang that girl’s pretty... kill her. Hephaestus: mommy didn’t love me so ima try to kill mommy. Poseidon: dang Athena took Athens so ima seduce this helpless woman at her temple. Athena: dang he seduced a helpless woman at my temple. Guess I’ll turn her into a literal monster. Hermes: prm as soon as I was born I killed a turtle turned it into an instrument stole Apollo’s cows and when he confronted me I played my dead turtle for him. Hades: I kidnapped the love of my life and then accepted a bargain to let her go...
It's not that mommy didn't love him, it's more of a mommy tried to kill him by throwing him off a fucking mountain in the sky just cause he wasn't the prettiest looking baby so he hates mommy forever and will take any chances he gets to kill her. Other than that he was a pretty chill dude and one of the kindest gods. I agree with everything else tho
yeah I agree at least when Hades punishes people they deserve it the other gods just punish people because they think they just can
Only Hades loves his wife. To myself, this is all i ever need know, He is the victim of her mother, he may only have half the time to spend with the one he commits. Zeus, every mortal woman is an object for his WILL that all mortals be like SHEEP and COWS to no more than even that servitude HOW DARE HE CALL HIMSELF THE ALMIGHTY RULER OF OLYMPUS! I do not fear this in fact, i hold allowable construct to be my divine inheritence and NOTHING MORE! Zeus will HEAR THAT I AM MAN OF HIS CREATION THAT I WAS WORTHY OF THE FIRE AND HE WILL LOOK UPON ME WITH THE SAME FAVOR HE LOOKS UPON NOTHING!
I don't necessarily agree with the Hephaestus part but other than that everything else is spot on
what poseidon and athena did was more than horrible. Poseidon didn't succeed in seducing medusa so he raped her , and athena is just a jealous women , no braincells present when she punished medusa where she devoted all her time and love to Athena.

Hades is honestly my favorite Greek god
Herakles: Hey man, can I borrow your dog

Heracles: understood uncle Hades
Be my Persephone Nichole.
He’s god of the underworld because he was simply unlucky.
He just ended up with the shortest stick thus ruling the underworld.
@@voidpickle5684 Also because Zeus is a piece of shit god lol

I completely agree!
Read the Percy Jackson series by Rick Riordan or the Greek Gods... and you'll understood the real background of each of them.
try the Percy Jackson Series it was my introduction to Greek Mythology it gives you a basic understanding of what the gods and Myths are about but with small twists. I find that once you have an image of what someone is like its easier to watch or read the actual Myths.
It`s official, Hades is by far my favorite Olympian. He deserves so much more respect then He get`s currently .
Hades is a just and relatively caring god when compared to his siblings. He made the underworld a reward or punishment depending on the kind of person was.
The other gods are petty and squabble amongst themselves.
I'm in love with the poem at the beginning of the video. Plus the voice is so relaxing
Why was Hades considered the least powerful? shouldn't he be the one with the most power (I mean he rules the underworld?)
I guess because in the Greek time a the affairs of man were what mattered? The stuff taking place in the land of the living was Zues' s MA
In Older Greece Poseidon was the King of the Gods, Not Zeus.
Years now which myth besides than Greek
Hades is one of my favorites, and it's a shame about all of the misconceptions about him. Thank you for the information on his weapon. This is the first time I had ever heard he wielded a bident. I knew the scythe was attributes to Thanatos, but I always thought Hades had some sort of scepter.
