Love the sound of rain on a Tarp, immersive, perpetual energy.. Thanks Cathy for taking us along. Ps Couple of Bread bags over your socks... no more wet toes in Sandles ...Scott Somerset Uk
Thank you very much, I really appreciate your kind words. It's amazing how much protection a tarp can give, and it is so versatile for it's size and weight.
That location has a beautiful mossy carpet. Seems to be lots of great alpine camping potential in Lewis pass area I have it on my list to try some out sometime. Such great wilderness so close to good road access. Great you share some of your wayfinding and your reasoning behind things - you know what you are doing! This is very educational. We want people to get into this kind of thing but not get lost or have a miserable time.
Another beautiful camping trip. Beautiful country and a great little spot to spend the night. Awesome filming as always. Great fun to watch. Thanks for sharing stay safe. See you in the next one. 👍😉🏕
hi Cathy. you should contemplate gloves for camping ,an old pair of garden gloves. When I use to camp I always carried gloves, and wear a wrist watch.take care God bless.
My daughter and I have been loving your videos! We would love a gear list in the description though. It’s always nice to know what gear works for you and what doesn’t. Cheers 🥂 😊
Great get away.......now you're just making me mad tho, grrr. Still just not the right weather here for me. Probably 6 more weeks. Love how you mix up your gear selection. I need all the ideas I can get. Keep on rockin' Cathy. Thanks!
You need to buy sealskinz socks, they'll keep your feet dry. Thank you for your videos, I so enjoy the relaxing rain and the personal feel to the chat you have with us. X
Thank you!! I do actually feel like that. When I’m chatting to the camera I really imagine I’m chatting to all of you and it makes me feel like it’s a shared experience.
Thank you for all your stunning, relaxing videos. Just gone through all your video’s I missed on the likes 😊 hope it helps liking them all as I genuinely find your videos awesome
There’s no doubt about your love of camping in the rain. You’re a trooper. I usually avoid the rain but with you and your fellow Kiwis and Aussies I’m warming up to trying it more. Enjoyed the video!
ha ha, yes maybe watching someone else camping in the rain is better than having to face the soggy wet gear. It's catchy though, I started out watching others camp in the rain.
Have you ever encountered any wild animals while you are camping by yourself? You are one brave lady, Hats off to you,!!! Love and hugs friend.from your friend in America ❤,🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Oh yes, that small but special moment when the sun hit all the water droplets on the trees was so magical. Of course the sun got shy and snuck away behind a cloud as soon as I got the camera out, lol.
Thank you for explaining the “tops”. I was curious whether all NZ TH-cam campers went to the same location. And thanks for going full time on TH-cam. Really enjoy you taking us on your adventures.
New sub here , hello from wales in the uk, just found your channel , thank you for the lovely views , we have a lovely lady camper like you here in the uk , her channel is Wildbear , I think you would love her vids , sending good vibes from Wales
What a beautiful place to camp! It would be a bucket list event for me to be able to camp in NZ. My son just returned from 2 weeks of camping in NZ and keeps filling my ears with his stories of the beauty of NZ. As far as the bivy goes, I would recommend the USGI goretex bivy. I've used it in the rain with no problems. I think you were right about the condensation. Be that as it may, from my experience, with any fabric, if there's any pooling, you will eventually have seeping. For that reason, It's a good idea to prevent any potential where water can pool on the fabric.
Thought they might be kiwi birds because of the green. Would have never guessed robin. So interesting. What were those trees with vines hanging from them? Beautiful scenery even with the soggy rain. Enjoyed the long video.
The Kiwi is a rare and very shy bird. I have seen a few in the wild, but never when I have been filming for YT. If I ever do see one you'll know about it as i'll be quietly squealing with delight. I had to look back at the video to see which trees you mean. I am thinking you are referring to the feathery looking green stuff on the trees around camp. Those trees are New Zealand Beech, and the feathery stuff is Usnea, Old Man's Beard Lichen.
Hi 👋 Cathy I had my comment ready to go and then it vanished 😢grrr just want to say in short now quite a contrast to your last sunny video ,my Dog Willow was for sure waiting to see Indy ,she watched the whole video with me ,But she was very quiet 😢😂 I love that you wheelbarrowed your smoker drum last video for a yummy cook up in sun shine then in this video its all mostly rain 🌧 then sunshowers.love how you mix you videos up ,also wanted to ask if you ever cross Tony &Bruno,an Able &Victoria? Anywho Great content 👌 👏 Looking forward to the next with Indy .love from me and my fur babies ,and a hello from my Willow to indy 💕 ❤️ Stay Safe Stay Happy God bless 🙏 ❤from Australia 🇦🇺
Sounds like Willow was mesmerised by the soothing rain sounds, lol. I have never encountered Tony or Able or Victoria on one of my camps. I tend to camp a bit further south than them. I do know them though, they are great people!!
Brilliant as usual, watching it’s almost like being there. Couple of questions if you get time. On base layers should they be tight or slightly loose to trap air. Do you ever wear waterproof socks, are they any good. My husband’s asking, as he goes fishing in all weathers. Look forward to your next venture.
Thanks Joyce. Two very good questions. It's my understanding that your base layer (especially if it is woollen) should be 'contact' tight, so close fitting against your skin. This is to endure that it can wick away any moisture (in the case of wool), and no cold air can move into that space between your skin and the fabric. I have never worn waterproof socks but funny enough I was just looking into them the other day. I'll have to reserve my comments or judgement until I've given them a go. If I do I'll chat about them in a video. Have a lovely day.
Hmm, Weliington boots are good in theory but on long slippery wet walks like this I find they don't have enough tread, my feet get cold in them, and they aren't breathable, which means heat and moisture builds up, and along with friction, results in terrible blisters... for me anyway. Others might find them useful, but my feet don't agree with them.
yes, but I guess you have to be able to breath inside them so there has to be some sort of ventilation, and that is a potential point of entry for water.
You are spoiling us with all these calming and beautiful energy videos. Thank you so much Cathy 🥰
Thank you. You are so welcome.
👍 I'll second that 😊.

Beautiful but amazingly wet location - almost ethereal with the sun shone. Thank you for all your effort.
