Surgical Techniques brief -
This is very common query among patients - which technique is best and must be used . we have narrated all common techniques for better understanding
- Anatomical ACL Reconstruction- This is the traditional technique for ACL surgery and involves removing the torn ligament and replacing it with a graft. The graft is typically taken from the patient's own body, such as the patellar tendon or hamstring tendon, and is shaped and positioned to mimic the function of the original ACL.
--Remnant-Preserving ACL Reconstruction This technique involves repairing the torn ACL rather than removing and replacing it. The surgeon will remove any damaged tissue and repair the remaining intact ligament fibers to restore stability to the knee joint.
--Double Bundle ACL Reconstruction This technique involves reconstructing the ACL using two separate grafts, one for the anteromedial bundle and one for the posterolateral bundle. This technique is designed to recreate the native anatomy and function of the ACL as closely as possible.
--Single Bundle Augmentation - This technique involves reinforcing the existing ACL with an additional graft, rather than removing and replacing the entire ligament. The graft is typically secured to the existing ACL to provide additional stability.
--ACL Stump Repair This technique involves repairing the remaining portion of the torn ACL rather than removing and replacing the entire ligament. The ACL stump is sutured back together to restore stability to the knee joint.
--All-Inside ACL Reconstruction This technique involves using small incisions and specialized instruments to perform the ACL reconstruction from the inside of the knee. This minimizes the size of the incisions and helps to minimize scarring and speed up the recovery process.
--All-Inside with FiberTape( internal brace ) This technique is similar to the All-Inside ACL Reconstruction, but the graft is secured to the bones of the knee using FiberTape, a synthetic material designed to mimic the strength and stability of the ACL.
Bridge-Enhanced Anterior Cruciate Ligament Repair (BEAR) is a surgical technique for repairing a torn ACL. The goal of this technique is to provide a bridge of support for the torn ACL, helping to restore stability and function to the knee joint.
Technique used for ACL reconstruction will depend on several factors, including the severity of the tear, the patient's overall health, demand of knee , built and gender of patient , authenticity of procedure with international consensus . Hi Doctor, I had an ACL recon surgery a week ago using quad tendon graft. My surgeon didn't remove the torn ACL during the reconstruction and therefore the graft fixation was few mm away from original ACL. Could you please share your thought on the rationale behind that? Will it cause any issues in future?
Gone through ACL reconstruction surgery 16 months back but recovered 80to 90 percent only. Still feeling stiffness while going uphill.
