unpopular opinion: Waking the Dragons is my second favourite Yu-Gi-Oh arc, right after Battle City (Part 1).. i wish they had adapted Yu-Gi-Oh R as season 5 instead of Grand Championship, that arc suuucks
Season 4 is okay, but season 5 is gonna end up being less interesting and less fun for me season 5 is the worst of all seasons for the original Yu-Gi-Oh! due to a super long storyline that gets insanely boring
This filler arc like the others go on for far too long. It also retcons the series. Remember the orgins of duel monsters is from Egypt yet this arc says they came from another world. Yami acts extremely out of character to contrive conflict,the villians are incredibly boring except Valon. Peaguas had no reason to be in the story he should have just died like in the manga. What they did with Mai was so insanely dumb. It ruined her character and I really like her beforehand. This arc completely undoes it to contrive conflict. It also goes on far too long. I just don't care for this story. The pacing of the series falls off of a cliff in the virtual world arc then after it gets going again it drags because of this arc and the third tournament arc in this series and a boring dub only arc. The series was spinning its wheels when it would have been in the home stretch without all the filler. The animation also takes a huge nosedive starting here.
