This was Yugioh at its best. You could play so much at that time. Even play your old stuff, slap 3 or 4 tuners to it and open a whole new world of options. It was just a great time. The only bad times I remember having was when facing Herald. Other than that I always had fun this era.
What rocked about it is it brought newfound relevant to a lot of old cards that could now be used as synchro material. Before that, unless a level 1-3 had a very broken effect, they were rarely used, even casually. Cards like this and instant fusion made older cards relevant.
There is a reason why Edison is among the more well known legacy formats. They do say it is the nice middle ground of combo and strategy potential between DM and modern.
this video is a combination of videos it starts with the 2008 recap i just figured it out because i also remmeber this video line for line... watched it over and over while high (the 2008 recap) because i love dad decks haha he threw me for a loop felt like a psychic lmao
The longest-lasting aspect that seems the saddest to me now is the kinds of cards being printed as TCG exclusives in this era. Arc-V had done a worthwhile job giving us entire decks and strategies before any other format, but in this era where it’s been Gold Prides and Tistina (have not read a single Tistina card); it wouldn’t have hurt anyone to try for an exclusive Lab card, VS, Beetrooper, Mathmech, or Horus support pick. Even if they were to still lose out on covering the major Branded or Visas storylines.
Endymion is my favorite card (both his original and his pendulum) and spell counter shenanigans is my favorite deck type, but I'm a casual. I still have each of his Structure decks at 3x as well as 3x Fallen of Albaz because I was also a theater kid.
I love this era, but ultimately lacks my Spellbook deck, so I can't say this is my favorite era, due to my love for pure spellcaster decks, synchros don't exactly get along with my monster type outside of a few mages like the windwitches being good at Synchro.... I do however like the synchro mechanic as a neat combo style of play, building towards Shooting Quasar Dragon is a worthwhile mini game to implement for your deck and has a worthwhile goal unlike today where Borreload savaga and Baronne De Fleur are the go to omni negates, but also things like Crystal Wing Synchro Dragon too make Shooting Quasar pointless to play which is a damn shame. ONE Big Boss Monster should have been the way to go instead making 4 negates....
God your long videos are so relaxing and enjoyable, thank you so much for making them🥰
I loved this era of yugioh as far as the game and animated series. The game just seemed fun then.

Hell yeah poly squad. Fuck the haters
Wow, what I'm learning more than anything is that TCG exclusives used to be really good.
Individual exclusives are still pretty good. Remember Garura? Pit-Knight Earlie? Gen and Ken?
Synchro summoning is the best summoning system

YES!
I LOVE ALL OF THE SUMMONING MECHANICS MAN BUT SYNCHROS ARE TOP

A great recap. Very nostalgic.
This was just released but feels like I’ve watched it 3 times already. I’m not mad about it though.

Best era in the game!
See, this one was fun because I remember opening a lot of these things in college, when I was actually trying to be competitive.
