As I listen to this masterpiece from 1981, it's amazing think this was actually on contemporary radio, on the actual Billboard Top 40, and was being listened to by millions of young people in 1981 from ages 15 to 30.
The level of musicianship, songwriting, and performance is truly off the charts (no pun intended).
No nudity, hos, n-words, c-words, b-words or any other insults and nudity required here, in order to get your point across as an entertainer/musician to an audience. Imagine that!!
A big thank you to Lee Ritenour, Eric Tagg, and all the great musicians who contributed to this track and performance. Enjoy! Cheers, Sam.

You gotta be kidding, Dedric. It's beautifully played and sung, but it's gooey easy-listening 'smooth jazz' schlock. This has nothing to do with jazz.

Goes without saying that Lee Ritenour and Phil Perry shine here. But I gotta give major kudos to the woeful underrated Jimmy Johnson, one of the very first cats to use a 5 string bass guitar exclusively for studio and performance. His tone and phrasing on this performance are str8 killing.

Lee and company, featuring the inimitable, Phil Perry. This is a fantastic performance. I remember when I bought the "Rit" LP containing this cut. I wore that thing out! I had it on 8-track too. Every song on "Rit" is awesome. I replaced all of my wax with CD's and this is one of them. BTW, I still have my wax. Thanks for posting this brilliant piece. Lee Ritenour forever, baby!

Giulio Carmassi I'm amazed by how many people DON'T know who Phil Perry is. I inadvertently met Phil back in in 1976 at the Cellar Club in Toledo, Ohio when he was with the mighty Montclairs. To make a long story short, my band (who was used to receiving standing ovations during our sets) opened for the mighty Montclairs. The people were there to see the mighty Montclairs, and NOT us. So, no standing o's on that night. Phil and his boys opened their set with the Isley Brothers' "Live it up!" And it was pandemonium! Phil and his crew shut it down! In my entire touring career 1969-1976, we had only been ill received twice. That night with Phil and the mighty Montclairs was the first. No brag, just fact. I love Phil Perry!

I was 11 years old when this song came out. I didn’t hear it for the first time until nearly my mid 20s. It was so infectious. Yet so utterly understated in the way it did it. I am laying in bed this morning now at the age of 53 and TH-cam recommended it after many years again of not having heard it. It moved me to tears. It’s just that good.
Thank you for reading and I hope today brings you special memories and one particularly outstanding thing to happen in your life. ❤
