I love both versions,Phil has been around for a long time (anyone ever hear of The Montclairs) and his voice is still in top shape,Eric sang the recorded version, what I don’t care for is the debate of who did it better, when in fact it’s neither of their song,it’s Lee Ritenour’s (can the longtime studio guitarist get some love) and credit him for choosing the right singer for the proper time, if you’ve ever seen the full concert you know that Phil carried the vocals with ease, also dynamic band of studio musicians killing it live held down by the great bassist Jimmy “Flim” Johnson and drummer Carlos Vega,Lee is still one of my favorite players along with Larry Carlton,Steve Lukather, (as far as studio musicians go)
+Marlyn Hunter Yes! Everything about his singing is just stupefyingly good. Also, he puts so much heart in every performance, it's really beautiful. The first time I actually heard Phil Perry was this video. I was blown away by him! I got some of his albums but haven't had the chance to give them a careful listen yet. Could you perhaps recommend me some Phil Perry albums? Thanks :)
@@blindbat2416 Agreed. Eric polished the song and added flavour to it, was beautiful. Phill however added soul, emotion, and passion - he had added so much to this that I thought it was his own song, until I realised I had heard the original a long time ago. It’s satisfying like a meal.
Frankly I love both versions. That’s the beauty of real music created by real musicians and enhanced by guest vocalists. The musical journey can be reborn over and over. Each version so unique. I truly miss that! #bringbackrealmusic
Someone's just outside, knocking on my door A stranger, somebody unknown Someone's in my dreams, can't get it off my mind I'm tired of being alone Someone's trying to find an easy way inside Come on, I'm right here at home, right at home Is it you? Is it you? Is it you? Is it you, you, you? Who's that deep inside me sneaking 'round my heart? Are you somebody in love? Show me what you're doing and tell me who you are Hey, I'm ready for love, for love Is it you? Is it you? Is it you? Is it you, you, you? If it's you, come out in the open You don't need to hide your love And it's you, you know I'm hoping 'Cause it's way too late to run away Don't run away from love, my love Is it you? Is it you, knocking on my door? Or is it my imagination? Is it you, I can't get off my mind? Is it you, you, you? Is it you, sneaking 'round my heart? Or is it my imagination? Is it you, I can't get off my mind? You, you, you? Ooh Is it you? Who are you? Or is it my imagination? Tell me where you are
It was recorded by Videoarts Japan and released as a laserdisc at the Concord Pavillion - Outdoor Amphitheater in Concord California - www.discogs.com/Lee-Ritenour-RITSpecial-Lee-Ritenour-Live/release/1192137 - I was lucky enough to be in the 4th row at this show.
I agree Perry does this song justice but I like Eric Taggs ( who wrote the song) original version better. Same with Mr. Briefcase, Turn the Heat UP and other Tagg originals that Phil Perry does cover versions of.
Never seen a male vocalist with so much supreme vocal control !
WOW HE WAS ON POINT WITH THE VOCAL 😮. "LEE RITENOUR IS A TRUE LEGEND ON THE GUITAR 🎸". "THIS CONCERT WAS ALL THE WAY 💥💥WORKS".
I love how Lee looks at him and smiles in the beginning because Phil hits that crazy note in the beginning!
i saw it too good catch
Damn he killed it during the intro!!!
yes phil was not playing around
TikTok brought me her I forgot ALL about this song................LOVED THIS VERSION!
He opened this song with so much passion
from the bones
Wao, 1980 solid hit
The best Version of is it you

Love this-can't let go,
Phil & Lee-best version.
My favorite version of this song. A lot of talented musicians on stage...

you are so right, choosing the right folks to sing your songs will make all the difference
Phil Perry is soooo underrated. WONDERFUL voice👍

Yes he is magnificent voice!
LOVE LEE...!!!!!!😊💕
Beautiful song. BEAUTIFULLY Done
HE's voice is so powerful it can light up a whole city..😀😀😀
You can see Lee cringe and laugh to other band members when perry over sings the song.
from deep down in his soul
This version is the best concert version of this song. But Eric Tagg's original is irreplaceable. I can listen to it again and again.
Sorry, I've listen to the original with Eric Tagg and it is replaceable, it's called Phil Perry.
@@blindbat2416 Agreed. Eric polished the song and added flavour to it, was beautiful. Phill however added soul, emotion, and passion - he had added so much to this that I thought it was his own song, until I realised I had heard the original a long time ago. It’s satisfying like a meal.
Yes, Eric's original version is by far the Best. Phil is a great vocalist, but this is Eric;s song!!
Although this song was released in 1981....it has that late 1970s vibe.
they both bring their own style and the result is great music
This is one of the best vocal performances ever. In ANY genre!!!!
Dang right, phil perry is just too powerful 🖤
@@rodrumco U got that right man,,Lee was very wise to choose Phil,, his voice blew me away,I couldn't have said it better Roman!!!
@@rodrumco and so underrated…
@@rodrumco Phil perry was subpurb in this video
Does anyone know if he’s still around?
@@LivnNLearnin Please stop saying underrated.
Wonderful voice. ♥️
carlos vega so smoooth tight drumming kicks ass.... RIP
Spot on
Frankly I love both versions. That’s the beauty of real music created by real musicians and enhanced by guest vocalists. The musical journey can be reborn over and over. Each version so unique. I truly miss that! #bringbackrealmusic
bingo
Watch Lee when Phil does his lead-in. He has a big smile that says, you are the man.
Phil is livin' it
THE GREAT PHIL PERRY...showin 'em how it's done...! SOUL FOR DAYS!!!!
Perry is a disgrace to this song. Ritenour refuses to look at him, and laughs to other band mates when he over sings.
Someone's just outside, knocking on my door
A stranger, somebody unknown
Someone's in my dreams, can't get it off my mind
I'm tired of being alone

You don't need to hide your love
And it's you, you know I'm hoping

Dynamic duo Phil and Lee💥

Carlos Vega! Jimmy Johnson as well...very nice.
This is AWESOME!!!!!!! I love this song.....Rit is at his usual amazing best, and Phil Perry is singing his heart out!! What musicianship....! :-)
Bravo Jimmy Johnson 👍👍👍
nice memories
By far the best version with Phil Perry on lead by miles.
WOW at 64yrs. Old I remember New York’s Blue Note when Lee Ritenour played this song it was great being young at one time
awesome!
How is Phil Perry not a household name? The man is Luther Vandross level good.
he surpasses his level even stevie said his notes is crazy

This is the best version of " Is It You," with Phil Perry.
Timeless song ❤️🥂👏💐

Listen to the master singer at work. The best version of this song.
Cute the guitarist geee!!
This song rocks me
Thank you Mr. Perry for this timeless rendition of a very timeless song.
wooooooooow es lo maximo PHIL PERRY FAAAAAAAAAAN!!!

1982: Phil Perry is singing his heart out!!
yes he was
turn back the time
I don't know, but phill perry is a genious, i like this version way more than the original!! :D
carlos vega... God saves your soul...
Phil Perry one of Ron Kenoly's back up singers
No tengo sonido en un parlante

Eric raft sings the original song......where was he at?
Eric Tagg.
Yes eric tag dans l'album de lee ritenour
How do you get these videos?
my late dad's dvd collection 😊
I may have missed it, but where (exactly) was this recorded? Arena, club, city?
It was recorded by Videoarts Japan and released as a laserdisc at the Concord Pavillion - Outdoor Amphitheater in Concord California - www.discogs.com/Lee-Ritenour-RITSpecial-Lee-Ritenour-Live/release/1192137 - I was lucky enough to be in the 4th row at this show.
Phil is a great singer, but it's just not the same without Eric singing it, not even close!!
Sorry Phil but this is nowhere close to the Eric Tagg version.
Darn spell check.... Eric tagg
Eric Tagg is unbeatable.
I agree Perry does this song justice but I like Eric Taggs ( who wrote the song) original version better. Same with Mr. Briefcase, Turn the Heat UP and other Tagg originals that Phil Perry does cover versions of.
He can sing,,but sadly oversings quite a lot..not because you have a good vocal range should you use it constantly..
Glad I am not the only one that sees perry use theatrics instead of vocal talent!
Think Phil Perry could make a better perfomance instead of showing his amazing voice. Its a beautifl song but dont like much this version
No Thankyou..Perry OVER SINGS and his facial expressions 😖.. ILL TAKE THE GREAT ERIC TAGG..irreplaceable..
Perry did the song justice....but I like Tagg's version better.
Perry is nothing more than a taco filler. Lee never used him again.
That's a lie...
That guy is trying way too hard.
And we love it😍
