    brilliant love how you investigate newer tech for older trucks and it becomes plug and play or bolt in for the most part. Breathing new life into old vehicles is best way to forgo the recycle/crush routine. great job and gives me ideas for my project

    1) Just a warning, the evap line that goes from the canister to the intake is no longer available. Anywhere. So be careful not to break it, or you'll have to scrounge one from a junkyard.
    2) I'm currently eyeballing upgrading my front spindles to GMT800 spindles to get bigger pads and more stopping power, along with slip-fit rotors rather than the pressed-stud style of my beloved GMT400s.

      I used the EFI Connection basic kit. I just got a full set of coil packs and harness from an 03 5.3 at the local pick n pull. You can get the harness connectors from EFI also, or order a 36" coil pack relocation harness from many sources. You will be using an LS tune 8.1L or 6.0L so you will need to swap injectors, as the firing order is different. I just repinned at the pcm. Best to do this while doing a cam swap, no extra work really.

    • @ryandentith7527
      @ryandentith7527 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SuperMrfranco hello, yes the 0411 pcm comes out of pickups with 5.3 engines and then your local engine tuner with the hptuners program will be able to set the pcm to run your 5.7 just by handing them the pcm by itself before installing to your truck. The map they’ll load on to it will be an older safari van or express van tune because in like early 2000’s those vans came equipped with a 5.7 AND the 0411. So any 0411 pcm will work (5.3, 4.8, 5.7, doesn’t matter just needs to be an 0411) with help from your local tuner. Check customconnectorkits.com for the 80 pin connectors you’ll need the red+blue style.

    My motorhome has a TBI 454. Literally zero difference in power or acceleration between about 2/3 throttle and full throttle. The engine just gets louder. Oh and the airflow to the radiator sucks, so it runs hot, which causes it to pull timing, which make it run hotter, and a cycle of insanity ensues.
    I wonder if the later 454s were better and simple things like oh I don’t know... developing usable cylinder pressure?

    • @scottm7341
      @scottm7341 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm building a 98 454 right now. The gen 6 7.4/454 of 96-2000 is probably the best 454 they ever made. The heads go back to the full size oval ports, rather than the peanut ports of the 87-95 G5. The short block is essentially the same as the G5, keeping the improvements in the cooling jacket and oiling. Compression is rated at 9.1, but I don't think it's quite that high. The pistons are .025" below the deck surface, so I had my block decked .010 to reduce that. It uses direct port fuel injection, but the stock tune is really bad. With a cam and 0411 swap, they can run really well.

    Great video! I’ve had these parts sitting in the garage for a year now. I was a little nervous about doing it, but now I watched you and can’t wait to do my own. One question though, what did you do about the VATs system to get it to start? I’ll need to get mine running so I can drive it to the tuner.

    • @LawrenceTolman
      @LawrenceTolman  3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I'll show it all in the next video, but I'll use HP Tuners software to get it all programmed. However, you can order a computer from Lextech all set up with a base tune that has VATS already disabled

    great video, i have a question off target of this video but thought i would throw it out since you work with newer stuff also and do videos on your 2020 HD. have you seen or ever found a good way to change the ESC on newer trucks to change the 35 mph reactivation. I hate that it enables at 35 mph, i would like to move the speed up or just keep off. Any tuners allow that? any other ideas other than pulling fuses or wiring interrupt in the circuit?

    • @LawrenceTolman
      @LawrenceTolman  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      There’s a kit you can buy from somewhere (don’t remember exactly) but it basically is a switch that interrupts the signal from a front wheel speed sensor. It throws a code for wheel speed, but essentially disables all TCS functionality until you re flip the switch...

    next time when you remove the cut wires on a used 0411 connector......instead of lifting the plastic clip to release the pin.....don't, just grab the cut wire from the backside and push forward and it will come right out.... As long as the colored covers are off. I can't tell you how many 0411 swaps i've done lol

    So I did this ecu swap on my truck but the issue I ran into was my o2 sensors stopped working. (and their still not working till this day) I guess GM used isolated ground and case ground o2 sensors. Case ground o2 sensors get their ground from the case of the sensor and isolated ground gets its ground from the ecu. Im currently trying different types of sensors to see if I get a signal. apparently lots of people have this issue and theirs TONS of post on the forums about this issue. I think this should be mentioned in the video.

    Could you do a synopsis video on what to do to update the 454 truck all the ways you recommend? There are a lot of us out here who would like to improve the performance of these trucks. I just got a K2500 suburban with a 454 for towing and would like to know what it takes to get the more our of it without spending a fortune. ECM, cam, headers, induction, etc. What is worth doing rather than just getting a newer truck?

    I am about to do a 0411 ECU swap on my 1997 Chevy Silveradro 1500 with a 5.7L motor with minor perfromance mods. I can't find Lextech anywhere to get the proper pin out harness swap spreadsheet. I was told buying a 0411 ECU from a 2002 chevy express with a 5.7L engine would get me close. Please advise, thank you in advance.

    I'm curious as to how to control injectors, wanting to go with Edelbrock Pro Flo on the vortec 5.7, the injectors are on outside of manifold, would the 411 swap control them along with 5.7 sensors. If this is doable I'm curious of why hasn't anyone done it yet? The Edelbrock flows much better than any plenum spacer along with 90mm TB.

    Hey LT, do you have experience working with the Vortec spider injection?
    I am debating on whether or not to take the truck in a different direction. Can't really find any good info on it. I did buy the MPFI conversion spider for it though but can't find any info on how much HP the spider injection setup will support?
    After I get the temporary engine installed and running, I have a whole new engine build planned for it that should be right around the 400 at the crank HP mark so I need to know if the factory junk can support that much? What do you think?
    Is this something I can take my truck to you to help me get this done?
    If no then it's replace the 4L60E with a 700R4 and go with one of the throttle body after market bolt on systems or possibly a carbon maker? Let me know, thanks in advance.
