Ohtani was hated by Blue Jays fans because of Jon Morosi and doubted because of Mizuhara. But Ohtani never blamed anyone. I’m always impressed by Ohtani's humanity as much as his great play.
fact👏
The new interpreter Will and Shohei seems to share Japanese modesty and sincerity. I love them both!
Contrary to some belief…. Ohtani speaks to the media quite a bit. And he is a class act. Keep slugging shohei
Ohtani said he thinks more about the positivities like how the team supports him and how much he appreciates the team than Ippei’s betrayal.
He said he doesn’ want to mention the names of teammates who support him. He believes they should bring up the topic themselves if they wanna talk about it. He wants to avoid any unnecessary attention on them by mentioning their names.
Super classy. That’s our guy!!!!
wise answers !!!
They really need to find a proper room for these interviews so every reporter can hear and record the questions and responses properly.
新しい通訳「新しい通訳が素晴らしい」
I'll make the first comment - Shohei is just warming up for the next 5 - 6 months.
I wish some of the reporters refrain themselves from asking about those things (investigations) that hapened outside the games and outside the ground.
Don't know if you're from america, but karens aka white women are like that. They are very nosy and don't mind their business.
Ohtani is a magime baseball player I like this guy 😘⚾
thank you for these! go dodgers
I’ve sat left seat a few times before my training. No one else on board but. Still. It’s no big deal
How do you think he feels about being betrayed? Leave him alone with these unrelated questions.
Who was that female reporter who asked out of nowhere ''can you tell us about the emotional experience of being betrayed by someone you considered close friend?'' She should be fired. I mean, would she ask Lady Gaga about the ''emotional experience'' of being raped??? She really needs to go back to kindergarten.
Typical nosy karen, right?
Was this interview carried out after the game? Only as for the question that is boring although it is long. Let's go a little more happily. The reporters think more.
Goddang it! I wish they’d pay more attention to the audio and the sound levels. What good does it do to ask what if no one can hear
these interviews are done in open areas, no mics, people walking around etc. So either we take what we get or get nothing
7:23 highlight ✨ 新しい通訳さんはホントにpretty 👍 🥰
and … 8:15 🥺🫶
He's a classy guy. But he was too uninterested in money, and his management was lax.
That's it. period.
Now that I think about it, rather than holding a press conference and answering reporters' questions one by one, he was so convinced of his innocence that he decided to spend his time focusing on how to play well in baseball.
We ask him too much of an explanation. The most eloquent thing for a baseball player is his performance on the field.
His expressions kind of indicates that he is understanding the questions made in English. I guess it will be a matter of time before he starts handling these interviews without an interpreter. Hopefully I guess.
From what I have heard the reason he uses interpreter is to ensure that there is no misunderstanding when he speaks. Ironically some issues with his past interpreter (The Criminal) might have actually been misunderstood. Doesn't really matter as he's a baseball player and doesn't need to speak English. He's Japanese and learning English is very difficult transition for speakers of Japanese/Korean/Chinese to speak well in English. Its not a simple learning curve like Spanish to English so I would expect him to use an interpreter his entire career..
Ohtani understands English, it just that he speaks Japanese so that folk in Japan can understand him better and he use interpreter to use to translate to folk in America.
keep in mind Japan is a perfectionist culture. the educational system and society instills fear in making mistakes and standing out as an individual. also keep in mind ohtani did not speak any english when he came to the US in 2018, and it’s only been 6 years.
We Japanese people can understand everyday conversational English after living in America for a few years, but it is quite difficult to perfectly express what we really want to say in English. The nuances that can be conveyed in one’s native language maybe different in English. 🤫
So,when using technical terms or making important responses at work,it is easier and more reliable to use interpreter.
However unless the interpreter is excellent, there is a risk that a completely different nuance will be conveyed. 😅
An interpreter is definitely needed. American athletes who come to Japan also use Japanese interpreters.
They are worse than Otani, and even though they have been here for years, they cannot speak even simple everyday Japanese.
The grammar is the opposite between Japanese and English, except for the subject. The vocabulary is also completely unrelated and difficult to learn.
Interviews cannot be conveyed with everyday vocabulary.
Ichiro had a high level of English ability, but he used an interpreter in order to convey his thoughts word for word.
大谷って日本人のファンの為に日本語でインタビュー答えてる気がする。日本人のファンの数が他の選手よりも桁違いだからな
i seriously doubt that’s the reason.
i think people that speak only one language don’t understand how uncomfortable it is to communicate in a language that they are not fully confident in. as a Japanese American, i’m billingual and I can speak fluent english and conversational Japanese but I often get uncomfortable whenever I go to Japan and need to speak to someone that’s not my family in Japanese. if i had a translator i would use one even though i understand what’s being said for the most part. and my japanese is much better than ohtani’s english.
also that’s why i’m replying in english here even though i know how to write in Japanese. mainly because i might make errors and i wouldn’t know where those errors would be.
He wants to be professional in his ability to communicate. It would take him more time to think on his feet linguistically. He wants to avoid room for error on his part in an official context. It is different from talking casually to friends.

7:38 Who is this 😩
Ohtani definitely looks a bit less animated/candid than before. I think he's lost a lot of trust in the American media and I don't blame him.
日本人の取材班の顔、、真剣に仕事しているんだろうけどすごい怖い顔だ。なんでみんな無表情なんだ。キルステンさんのインタビューが一番落ち着く。

I bet that translator keeps reminding himself

🥶🍟🍼
Uh oh. Bluejays hate him.
Can we bring Ippei back for just translating? That dude was special in that area, not so much others 🤣🤣🤣
@helloman3676, I guess they could if he gets work release.
I can't hear what you're saying because you speak so quietly.
Ippei wasn’t good. He didn’t translate many of the things Ohtani said. And mumbled more. Will definitely translate more accurately. The problem is the audio. Not the translator.
通訳さんの声小さくて聞きづらいよ😢
Damn interpreters need to carry notepads. I hate all these weirdos turned interpreters they keep hiring like Ippei and whoever this dude is. He already f’ed up by saying that Shohei met the fan that caught his first HR ball…
this dude is NOT a professional translator. He is Will Ireton, the Dodgers players development
executive. He is just temporarily filling in.
