So the jedi that got in the way during a battle with bane on Tython was Johun Othone, just in case anyone wanted to know as the video didn't clarify. The only other thing I think was intentionally implied by the bane books but not directly stated or mentioned by anyone, bane not only focused study on form 3 due to losing his armour but because of how he gained it. When the orbalisks attacked bane the wording in the audiobook is "The colony of crustaceans broke free on mass and cascaded down on him in a chitinous swarm" "it was like trying to ward off raindrops in a storm" He literally took that experience and learned how to block raindrops as redemption for falling victim to the orbalisks. Definitely one of my favourite features of bane, everything bad that happens to him, he learns to beat in the future. Bane only 'lost' to Zannah because of her force abilities, bane not only laid her on her back but he disarmed her, if she were any other force user of the time, including her own temporary apprentice (Set Harth) she'd have died.
JOHUN OTHONE! THAT was it!! Thank you, that was killing me! Also I love that take on why Bane decided to learn Soresu, I haven’t seen that perspective before.
Thanks man, I think it's accurate. It's just the phrasing that hints at it but it's the repeat of the word choice that made me sure of it. I love the bane series, if I could ever study under a master it would definitely be bane.
@@Delta68494 agreed. Bane is for sure in my top 3 favorite Sith. The Bane Trilogy was my first step into the Legends universe and it got me hooked right away.
I completely get why. It almost killed the movies and series shows for me. I hope some day they make maybe a 3 season series for bane to cover each book.
Oh could I ask you about Set real quick? What do you think of him and his character? I wish there was more about him especially after he escapes the stone prison with Darth Andeddu holocron
1:39:04 thanks for clearing this up I always have a hard time pinning down exactly how strong and how good anakin is when comparing him to old masters yoda and even windu in the end a fight is about more than just power but IQ and strategy and just being able to keep your wits about you
Fast style worked best in JEDI ACADEMY, people who dislike Niman are simply naive, the beauty of it is that if you've mastered it, then it becomes anything you need it to become. Also, it's incredibly inclusive, and a master could add other marshal techniques or even dance moves. Far from being a mere swiss army knife, it is supremely customizable to both practitioner and situation.
Assuming peaks, I honestly think Vader beats Yoda purely due to how ridiculously powerful Vader is in the Force. Yoda is constantly using the Force in battle, Vader can afford to use it sparingly.
same reason as any other culture that values a sense of honor. they see it as a bad thing to do. it is also dangerous and might not be worth the risk unless you are 100% confident that it will work.

I have always wondered, does the word 'form' mean style? No one seems to say what a 'form' really is. I listen to descriptions, pros/cons, and opinions...but I never actually hear what a form is in Star Wars. I mean at the end of the day a lightsaber is a fancy sword. And a sword only has 10 basic moves: 4 cardinal movements, 4 diagonal movements, thrust, and draw. That's it. Everything else is a version of, or a stylist approach to the 10 basic movements. So is that why they are talking about?
Soresu was invented because of the modernization of the blaster, actually. Not because Makashi was too offensive. In fact, Soresu was so DEFENSIVE they made Ataru.
Would you guys say for Form 6…it would be best to master 1, then 2, then 3, then 4, then 5 and THEN master Niman? Darth Revan is my favorite character. Actually looking to join the 501s later on as Revan.
Actually ironically,it would be easier to master form 6 and branch out from there. Niman actually incorporated move sets from form 1,3,4, and 5, and depending on your source form 2 lore is a bit inconsistent on form 2 though. And the reason it would be harder building up to form 6 is that the others are more Ridgid in the baldework it relays on your movement and your blades movement. With form 6 the bladework is more relaxed, due to the use of surprises in your form either another blade or force powers in your fighting style. With the other forms you are generally using the force to bolster you physically to boost speed or do flips or your senses, with form 6 you generally use force powers as a weapon like force push. The others can use force push in their style , but it usually breaks the flow. With niman it's incorporated and just as much as swinging the lightsaber
Shien is also very useful in a saber duel, and it was used by Ahsoka, Plo Koon, and Anakin, but Djem So is better, which is why Anakin learned that too. Shien is, essentially, the midway point between Soresu and Djem So.
That's a good top three, I think. Vaapad is an offshoot of Juyo that Mace developed that takes advantage of Darkside users' own strength. We see how well it does against Sidious, as George stated in the past. Mace won the duel. Niman is a great but difficult form to truly master given it takes from all forms. The Jedi Battle Master Cin Drallig is the best practitioner during the Clone Wars and in lore held up against a newly anointed Darth Vader during the Temple raid and lost due to Vader using Cin apprentices as distractions. Also, Exar Kun was a master of the form for a Jedi/Sith. Djem So, of course, given Anakin and later Luke as Grand Master. It's a great top 3 in my view.
@rachelprighel4409 It's kinda like when I talk to my friends about this, we get really into the world It's nice to delve into the small details of the world, makes it richer
Personally, I think my lightsaber form would be form V Shien and Djem So. A form prepared for any threat I've always had the belief that "the best defence is a good offense" Seeing as I'm 6"3 and I fight with physical strength and with a counter attacking philosophy. It would just compliment me perfectly. Thank you for such an in depth and thorough video, I don't think I've come across such an in depth video about lightsaber combat anywhere. Keep up the good work!
I must comment and say had Mace engaged against Anakin, Mace would have been the victor considering the concept of Vaapad. Mace fighting style takes the opponent aggression and even the dark side itself and channels it right back. The opponent is fighting themself.
I’m a huge fan of Ataru. It perfectly matches my personality as an energetic person when engaging in physical activity and I feel like if I can learn some basic gymnastics, along with some more advanced manoeuvres, I could be an absolute beast in a lightsaber duel
One of the guys doing this video was 6 ft. 7 in.?" You know there is a bassist who plays for the German metal band Rammstein, Oliver Riedel, who is also 6' 7". My three chosen lightsaber forms would be Juyo (because I'm a Sith Lord), Soresu (for defensive purposes in lightsaber dueling and for better defense against blaster fire) and Makashi (basic lightsaber 2 lightsaber knowledge [I love Christopher Lee]).
Amazing video. If i were a jedi, i would strive to master both makashi and sorisu, both emphasize energy conservation and tight precise moves, but makashi is focused on precise killing blows and sorisu is focused on a perfect wall of defense. Mastering both would be a potent mix

FORM V and VII are the best. As Tulak Horde, Darth Malgus, Anakin Skywalker/Vader, Darth Bane, Mace, Revan, Luke Skywalker, Darth Sidious. Where all masters of those forms and used them all the time. When the best duelists of all time directly specialize in your form, then it's the best.
My favorite forms would be: Djem So, Juyo, Vaapad and Trakata. I know a lot of people see it as cheap shot but when used effectively: absolutely lethal. I'll always vouch for it.
Awesome talk, but definitely could have done without the 30min tangent during the Ataru section, debating if Yoda would beat Vader or not. Might edit that part out and stick to the purpose of the video…describing the lightsaber forms.
So Niman comes in 2 flavors jedi-"Diplomats form" used by jedi who want a form that doesnt need constant practice so u can focus on other pursuits (like johan othone) but also "battle master" that allows them to use one or two blades to cycle thru 6 forms and add unpredicable personalized forms like Exar Kun Darth Revan Pong krell Cal kestis Starkiller II Darth Krayt , but I think if u were doing multiple forms , I like form III soresu, form V shien/djem so , form 6 niman , form 7 Juyo/Vapaad , a mix of those forms would be monsterous
So my interpretation of what Lus-ma might be, a seemingly aggressive form akin to Juyo, but with faints that consist of super precise jabs and slashes akin to makashi.. so you throw a faint that looks like it's gonna be a really powerful blow from the upper right, but then shift to a precise jab from upper left.

Okay Luke probably could have trained to be a Jedi at the age of 50 and still would have been a badass though I'm just saying don't don't come aboard me because I said Luke Skywalker.
Sry, I was ... Tore up when I wrote this one... 😂
Form I - Shii-Cho (Way of the Sarlac or Determination Form) - 1:05
Form II - Makashi (Way of the Ysalamiri or Contention Form) - 17:30
Form III - Soresu (Way of the Mynock or Resilience Form) - 33:38
Form IV - Ataru (Way of the Hawk-Bat or Aggression Form) - 48:34
Form V - Shien/Djem So (Way of the Krayt Dragon or Perseverance Form) - 1:12:44
Form VI - Niman (Way of the Rancor or Moderation Form) - 1:45:45
Form VII - Juyo/Vaapad (Way of the Vornskr or Ferocity Form) - 2:03:48
Various Forms/Derivatives - 2:39:56
Thought having a good way to skip through the Forms would be super helpful for people who would like a full discussion on their favorite forms. Thanks for this, it's really helped me immerse myself and help use all of these forms as a "martial art" in training to be a Star Wars cosplayer professionally
1:39:04 thanks for clearing this up I always have a hard time pinning down exactly how strong and how good anakin is when comparing him to old masters yoda and even windu in the end a fight is about more than just power but IQ and strategy and just being able to keep your wits about you
Of course it is the right thing to do that exactly

Trakata is the only common sense form. Why would you not use the ability to turn your blade on and off?
same reason as any other culture that values a sense of honor. they see it as a bad thing to do. it is also dangerous and might not be worth the risk unless you are 100% confident that it will work.
It's not a form lol. It's just a move.
Really enjoyed this, found out lots of new things! Thank you :-)

Your absolutely welcome alright then
I have always wondered, does the word 'form' mean style? No one seems to say what a 'form' really is. I listen to descriptions, pros/cons, and opinions...but I never actually hear what a form is in Star Wars. I mean at the end of the day a lightsaber is a fancy sword. And a sword only has 10 basic moves: 4 cardinal movements, 4 diagonal movements, thrust, and draw. That's it. Everything else is a version of, or a stylist approach to the 10 basic movements. So is that why they are talking about?
This video is a ton of fun. This level of detail in world building really brings the story to life.
Absolutely
Exactly
thanks for the work could you add timestamps for each form ?
It will never happen. That forces the viewers to watch the whole video, that makes the algorithem happy.
You have mastered the secret 8th form: Weaponized Autism. This was incredibly deep.

Soresu was invented because of the modernization of the blaster, actually. Not because Makashi was too offensive. In fact, Soresu was so DEFENSIVE they made Ataru.
Saving this one later for cleaning day 😂
Ty very much I asked for something like this awhile back and enjoyed it very much
Just started this an HR ago or so. So far no repeating yourself, no "double speak" due to editing. Thanks for taking my advice
Ah yes...embarrassing...definitely...

💀💀my brother just clowed me for watching this, imagine a gun toting, weed smokin party nigga watching lightsaber forms
This is one of THEE greatest videos ever created!!!
I would use form 2 makashi and form 3 soresu. One for lightsaber combat and one for blaster deflection.
That's what I'm thinking
Shien is also very useful in a saber duel, and it was used by Ahsoka, Plo Koon, and Anakin, but Djem So is better, which is why Anakin learned that too. Shien is, essentially, the midway point between Soresu and Djem So.
bro this cant be real
Search your feelings, you know it to be true!
Luke:I don't believe it. Yoda:That is why you fail
Thanks stupendous wave
My personal choice in forms:
1) niman
2) makashi + shien
My favorite forms:
1 - Vaapad
2 - Nyman
3 - Djem So
That's a good top three, I think.
There should of been some many light whip formulas, electrostaff formations, blaster formats, as well as thermal destinator formers too yeah.
Good idea actually try that idea
I'd prob'ly B basic, form 1&2, 2 being restrained to wound not kill, with enough 3 to block blaster bolts to good effect.
Absolutely
Good shit my man keep this up ya holocrons r reaching us in the outer rim (da hood)
They're forbidden moves for a reason, Obi wan had to deal with the consequences until he died

Don’t be embarrassed bro, this is badass. And so are you. I love your videos👍
Is there any way to merge all 7 so that there's perfection for both light and dark side?
No. The closest to a perfect hybrid style is form 6 niman.

That Jedi that he is thinking of his name is Johan otho
Personally, I think my lightsaber form would be form V Shien and Djem So. A form prepared for any threat I've always had the belief that "the best defence is a good offense" Seeing as I'm 6"3 and I fight with physical strength and with a counter attacking philosophy. It would just compliment me perfectly.
Thank you for such an in depth and thorough video, I don't think I've come across such an in depth video about lightsaber combat anywhere. Keep up the good work!
Super insightful all the details and how thorough this was. Really enjoyed this thank you!
Done
The chosen one himself
I must comment and say had Mace engaged against Anakin, Mace would have been the victor considering the concept of Vaapad. Mace fighting style takes the opponent aggression and even the dark side itself and channels it right back. The opponent is fighting themself.
Not always
And Yoda is the master of them all!
Amazing video. If i were a jedi, i would strive to master both makashi and sorisu, both emphasize energy conservation and tight precise moves, but makashi is focused on precise killing blows and sorisu is focused on a perfect wall of defense. Mastering both would be a potent mix
Nice work Hayden Christensen himself ❤

FORM V and VII are the best. As Tulak Horde, Darth Malgus, Anakin Skywalker/Vader, Darth Bane, Mace, Revan, Luke Skywalker, Darth Sidious. Where all masters of those forms and used them all the time. When the best duelists of all time directly specialize in your form, then it's the best.
Great speech on Luke and form 5! That was perfect
My favorite forms would be: Djem So, Juyo, Vaapad and Trakata. I know a lot of people see it as cheap shot but when used effectively: absolutely lethal. I'll always vouch for it.
Your absolutely welcome
Awesome talk, but definitely could have done without the 30min tangent during the Ataru section, debating if Yoda would beat Vader or not. Might edit that part out and stick to the purpose of the video…describing the lightsaber forms.
Excellent breakdown, guys ❤
Makashi and Soresu would probably be my combination of choice. Calm, efficiency, and precision 🌟
