I always thought Fallout 3 super mutants were the scariest. The idea that these monsters wouldn't just rip apart anyone in their way and actually kidnap people to create more of their kind was skin crawling to me when I was a kid playing that game. I didn't know how super mutants were made so I assumed they were always kidnapping people to procreate with them, so I always thought they were like brutal, gore obsessed, rapists when I was younger. I had no idea they dipped people in FEV.
I hope we get to see more intelligent super mutants in the future, its really cool to see how the smart mutants think about themselves and their people like uncle Leo and fawkes. Its also cool to see peaceful mutants, like seeing these military/pre war science virus monsters being like farmers and living life like the humans they used to be. I also hope we get to see bigger super mutants, since that east coast mutants keep growing, creating behemoths and hopefully bigger mutants like a super super behemoth or something
Make leo a leader of a faction of friendly and intelligent super mutants that devote their incredibly long life to noting down the history of the wastelands which includes him, Mean sonofabitch and Marcus
"Despite their significant increase in size, strength, and immunity. The mutants suffered from mental illness" I have that last thing and didn't even need the FEV to do it
Ah the Supermutants. The staple of Fallout I do love that you can always tell that supermutants come from different batches of the virus. Some are smaller and smarter, like the ones made by the Institute refined FEV, or their big, with skull like faces like the Capital Wasteland batch
@@Dragoncam13 Id say on avarage, the Institute Batch had more consistent intelligence all around. Sure they weren’t all hyper smart, but on average they tended to be reasonably intelligent based on interactions with them and talking with Strong Yeah the West Coast had really smart mutants. And they also had complete morons like Harry, Larry and Barry. And that’s without mentioning the Gen 2 mutants

Swan was a really mean, unique Super Behemoth I had trouble killing the first few times I encountered him on Fallout 4, without reaching Level 12 at least. I remember using power armour once, quite a lot of grenades, and about 500 minigun bullets.
The strain in the Vim Factory in Far Harbour had some oddidies. It kept some of the mutants intelligence in place. Probably something to do with the fev being made in the same vats as the vim pop xD
There is no FEV at the Vim Factory. The SMs on The Island migrated there from the mainland. The one mutant that is converted to a more peaceful, perhaps more intelligent, status was affected by a side effect of 'The Fog'....but that seems to be a one-off, as the rest of the SMs retain their Commonwealth Strain characteristics.
We may be closer to developing our own version of FEV than you may think. Not to mention the fact that we are currently living in a dystopia which have already started to lay the groundwork to make it a distinct possibility.
I wonder if there will be another place like Jacobstown in the next Fallout. I love the interaction with friendly Super Mutants. I also wonder if they'll bring back Nightkin.
The only Fallout game I have ever played is 4, but thanks to this video, I now know what a Super Mutant means when I hear one say "No green stuff here". I always wondered what that meant. Because for some reason the Institute wanted to destabilize the Commonwealth in order to prevent them from rising up against them… which they would only do because of the things they’ve done to destabilize the Commonwealth.
Pretty sure somewhere along the line it was done in an attempt to clear out the surviving people from the surface, but then Bethesda forgot that's why and decided the institute had no desire to leave their underground lair so their inclusion in the game ended up making no sense.
@@PLANDerLinde99 I wonder if they were specifically designed. In another video he covered what happens when fev is directly injected in the brain. The elderly woman turned supermutant holds clues I think to this and what happened to some of the people from the Appalachian strain. You meet her at Jacob's Town, Tabitha also queues to the schizophrenia and psychopathy of nightkin. It seems like supermutant minds are not fully capable of distinguishing between fantasy and reality much more than even some of the worst cases of schizophrenia and the use of cloaking devices only exacerbated this. Perhaps due to isolation. That would explain why supermutants you meet in vaults or underground facilities are more aggressive. Also if you listen to their conversations supermutants seem to fear humans or at least be averse to them primarily based on appearance, weakness seems more of an afterthought.
Your channel is the reason that i went back to play fallout 3 for the first time in almost a decade. Ive literally spent 55 hours on it in the last 2 weeks.
Just recent stumbled on your Chanel and am a huge fan of the lore series. I never got into fallout lore myself, so it’s very fun to have some of my findings explained
I'd love to see a stable supermutant society in a future game. Maybe in some isolated valley that was never exposed to the mutated FEV, so they are all prime normals. If some of the smart first generation supermutants found a place like that and took over, they could form a culture where humans are seen as larval forms of supermutants; they reproduce a couple times and then immediately get dipped. The population can be stable and people expect the dipping as normal. (yeah, it's pretty much a remix/rip-off of a major plot point from an Asimov story, but I think it fits)
Great video. However, I'd like to know more about the Scorched and their fondness for Ultracite. Possibly even some more info on the Scorched Beasts as well.
This might sound a little dumb, but I'm thinking you should make a video on the scorched plague from fallout 76. I've encountered normal scorched, as well as scorched deathclaws. If you do, I'll be there! Also, you've earned a sub.
"Although I do wonder what the offspring of a human, and a Super Mutant might look like" My mind is suddenly flooded with images of that clip from Family Guy, where Kermit and Mrs Piggy have a kid.......*shudders*
I feel awful for those forced to go through the procedure, especially those who after just wanted to have a normal life. Even though it’s just a game, Id hope they all would find the life meant for them thats not just killing..A great video, thanks for uploading!
Except for the evil run Vault Dweller from FO1, who probably deserved being turned into a super mutant after letting the mutants massacre their vault. Still hard to watch them struggle and be dumped into the vat of FEV though..
@@leshape192The vault dweller is exposed to the FEV before the raid on Vault 13. The ending narration even mentions that you were the one to kill the overseer.
Thank you, man. This will help me a lot with the tabletop Fallout RP game my friends are planning on getting started. I wanted to stick to the lore as much as possible without going overboard with my super mutant character.
This was incredibly interesting. I never got the chance to play Fallout 1 or 2 so a lot of lore is lost to me because of that. Although I have played Fallout 3 - 4 plus all the DLC. Always wondered about the different cosmetics and appearances of the Super Mutants but just figured it was a new look for each new game. Thanks for the upload!
I was also wondering that, one major difference in appearance is the use of braces (the weird strap pinning back their upper lips) seems to be no logical answer, it was simply the result of the designer having way too much fun and not thinking about the lore behind it
With FEV's often random effects, I'd like to imagine that 1 person got dipped, and then came out completely normal save for the sudden acquisition of a 20 foot leap and a third nipple. "How can I ever go back to my family? I'm a monster!"
Great video, and I'm loving your channel. You're doing a good job on covering creatures, locations and enemies in fallout, do you think you could do a video on energy weapons? The variations, the in game lore, the uses in the fallout games. It might even be a few videos if it's a big enough topic.
Yeah, I'd like to think that the slightly smarter Super Mutants trick the most dumbest/unwanted of the group to take the role of Suicider Makes sense, Occam's Razor & all that
Pumpin new stuff out too, ehh? You're a goldmine homie. You're a hidden gem in this post-Exhorn and post-thenthapple wastelands, and that's not to label you as a replacement, but definitely a friggin' homie that fills in that Fallout void we got.
Great coverage of super mutants, actually haven't met some of the unique ones you mentioned, time to go find them. A good subject you could cover is all the supernatural stuff, like the dunwich building in FO3, Point Lookout, the dagger you can find in a a ritual site inside quarry in FO4, Etc.
Ironic that they depend on humans to continue their species, and yet if they turned all humans into super mutants they would mark the beginning of their own extinction.
Correct me if I’m wrong but age and size aren’t directly correlated for all supermutants, fawkes is old enough to remember when his vault still had some people, logically this would make him a behemoth but he’s not, so I theorize that it’s a particular strain of FEV that causes super mutants to grow that large
Still think a Fallout game where u can pick your race like Elder Scrolls would be fun. Imagine being a Super Mutant, Synth, ghoul or human. Each with different benefits
"I wonder what a human and super mutant child would look like." Well judging by all the fascinating documentaries about super mutants mating with human women... I'd say its gonna be like a chest buster. AND THATS YOUR WTF MOMENT OF THE DAY!
I feel like those suicide nukers either do not understand that a mininuke blast will kill them not just injure, or since they come from the insitutes experimentation some suicidal thoughts might remain from that trauma so they do not value their own life enought to care that the explotion will kill them. The mentally 'weaker' ones could also be convinced by the others to mininuke themselves instead of being killed by the them as being weak is hated by supermutants so some might have selfhatered as well as being disliked by the others.
I'm loving these videos! I'm a sucker for Fallout lore. Very professional looking video. There are so many cool super mutant characters in Fallout like Tabitha in Black Mountain (New Vegas). Her radio was hilarious. And Grahm in 76. And so much more. But anyways, keep up the great work man!
Super mutants are among my absolute favorite fictional beings. If a fallout movie or show ever happens, it had better capture the insanity and horror that is the super mutant. But I feel if it happens, they’ll be watered down due to how graphic they naturally are.

What, like the one you have to fight at the end of the BOS quest line in Fallout 76??
I want to see super mutant chimps in a game. They’d be terrifying.
You basically just describe planet of the apes!
@@noahdean9685 gorillas
the ghoulrillas were pretty dope but i agree, more fev infected animals would be cool to see in the future
Imagine we got humanized chimps that lived in a vault in the next fallout game and they're all super intelligent and you can have one as a companion
Arabic people
A surprise to be sure, but a welcome one. Big fan of the channel.
Welcome aboard!
Anyone else bingeing Fallout lore after the series??
Yep
Definitely
"Despite their significant increase in size, strength, and immunity. The mutants suffered from mental illness"
I have that last thing and didn't even need the FEV to do it
True skill, friend
A video on what happened to the Enclave between Fallout 2 and 3 would be cool but I'm not sure if there is enough to go off.
The BoS and the NCR teamed up and destroyed navarro, sending the enclave to the east coast.
Ah the Supermutants. The staple of Fallout
I do love that you can always tell that supermutants come from different batches of the virus. Some are smaller and smarter, like the ones made by the Institute refined FEV, or their big, with skull like faces like the Capital Wasteland batch
I'd say the west coast branch had smarter super mutants. Like Harold,Marcus,Lily, and Frank Horrigan for example
@@Dragoncam13 Id say on avarage, the Institute Batch had more consistent intelligence all around. Sure they weren’t all hyper smart, but on average they tended to be reasonably intelligent based on interactions with them and talking with Strong
Yeah the West Coast had really smart mutants. And they also had complete morons like Harry, Larry and Barry. And that’s without mentioning the Gen 2 mutants
@@Mobysimo true,Gen 2 were idiots but didn’t they come from a different strain?
@@Dragoncam13 Nope same strain. They were mutated inside the ruins of Mariposa
@@Mobysimo ahhhh I remember, makes sense tbh. Where the master perfectly crafted him whenever he was alive while the rest were trapped and abandoned inside after being forced to dig through the ruins
This is some really useful information because I'm making an upcoming super mutant playthrough mod for Fallout 4
First 4 hours of gameplay will be what's that noise arrgghh nothing
Also what's that antler eat the humans
@@lancer2442 lol yeah I'm gonna add more voice lines FEV put them down so far they can be shot and just say must be hearing things
So happy I found this channel, fallout was my first ever favorite game series, and to see videos still being made about it puts a big smile on my face
We may be closer to developing our own version of FEV than you may think. Not to mention the fact that we are currently living in a dystopia which have already started to lay the groundwork to make it a distinct possibility.
Its wild almost anyone can buy "CRISPR Home DNA kit" o.o
I wonder if there will be another place like Jacobstown in the next Fallout. I love the interaction with friendly Super Mutants.
I also wonder if they'll bring back Nightkin.
🤞
I hope Uncle Leo will make a cameo he was supposed to in NV

Throw in some headphones and take me with you!
@@Synonymous101 of course! Anywhere I go, you're always welcome
The only Fallout game I have ever played is 4, but thanks to this video, I now know what a Super Mutant means when I hear one say "No green stuff here". I always wondered what that meant. Judging by the meatbags hanging everywhere, I was pretty sure they weren't talking about lettuce and broccoli 😄
This is a cool video series, I only just discovered it. Will definitely be watching more. Cheers!
Virgil: reject mutant return to human
Man this really is a good Lore channel, definitely sticking with you to get my lore info

If only Bethesda would do the same
I like it, but I wont lie. I still miss shodycast

I honestly didn't know that all super mutants from each game were different. I just thought it was a design choice that made them look different from fallout 3 to new vegas
Discovered your channel yesterday and have been on a marathon. Love your presentation man
Amen. It's presented in such a nice way
I 3rd this. Awesome channel and he's got that smooth as butter radio voice.
Lore on power armor? It's does feel ever changing since bethesda keeps adding more and more but a look at t-45 and t-51 would be nice

Sure wish I could play as a super mutant Bethesda...
I'm honestly surprised they haven't done a fallout game where you can choose your species like in skyrim.
Originally you were in the cancelled F3
Fallout new vegas it was suppose to be a thing
I can't get enough of these videos so informative and said in a brilliantly clear voice
I see you are extending this series after many people found it simply spectacular. Sometimes, the algorithm does it’s job. Keep up the good work boss. I can see you with 1.4 mil in a few years. Cheers! Stay safe!
There is so much to explore with those mininuke mutants, THANK YOU for bringing that up! It's a little talked about mystery that has so many possibilities in the story telling sense, because they certainly could just throw the mininuke. Profound and fresh story contemplation 6 years after a videogame release, this is how you youtube.
"the institute was creating super mutants and releasing them into the wasteland" why?
For science!
Because for some reason the Institute wanted to destabilize the Commonwealth in order to prevent them from rising up against them… which they would only do because of the things they’ve done to destabilize the Commonwealth.
@@Falloutlover1011 | Not the best written game.
Pretty sure somewhere along the line it was done in an attempt to clear out the surviving people from the surface, but then Bethesda forgot that's why and decided the institute had no desire to leave their underground lair so their inclusion in the game ended up making no sense.
Dosen't matter in the long run anyway, all fallout 4 ended up being was a way to ease people into the mechanics used in 76.
A new video by synonymous, the most underrated YT channel I've seen. Glad to see the high views on a new video! Keep it up! Love your work
Fairly new to fallout, but aren’t nightkin also a branch of supermutants... or is that for another video?
Supermutants that have an obsession over using Stealth boys. It turns their skin blue and gives them schizophrenia. That's the simple explanation
This is the closest thing to return to monke I can think of
honestly love how these are edited and stylized, my favorite fallout channel and you are truly a hidden gem. Much love from the Mojave
Your channel is the reason that i went back to play fallout 3 for the first time in almost a decade. Ive literally spent 55 hours on it in the last 2 weeks.
That's awesome! 😁👍
@@Synonymous101 keep up the good work love your videos
Just recent stumbled on your Chanel and am a huge fan of the lore series. I never got into fallout lore myself, so it’s very fun to have some of my findings explained
Hell yeah new episode!
I recently found your vids and gotta say I’m hooked to the lore stuff, listen to ‘em when I sleep.
Keep up the good work!
Always love how thorough and concise your lore videos are - great work!
11 Y/O me: Wears braces
My parents: Aww you look so cute!
How i actually looked like:
I'd love to see a stable supermutant society in a future game. Maybe in some isolated valley that was never exposed to the mutated FEV, so they are all prime normals. If some of the smart first generation supermutants found a place like that and took over, they could form a culture where humans are seen as larval forms of supermutants; they reproduce a couple times and then immediately get dipped. The population can be stable and people expect the dipping as normal. (yeah, it's pretty much a remix/rip-off of a major plot point from an Asimov story, but I think it fits)

"Where did they come from?"
Where did they go, where you come from, Cotton Eye Mutant?
Great video. However, I'd like to know more about the Scorched and their fondness for Ultracite. Possibly even some more info on the Scorched Beasts as well.
Just started playing fallout 4 for the first time and I'm loving your channel. Loving the game too.👌👍
Maybe a video on the think tank and the experiments that happened at big MT
This might sound a little dumb, but I'm thinking you should make a video on the scorched plague from fallout 76. I've encountered normal scorched, as well as scorched deathclaws. If you do, I'll be there! Also, you've earned a sub.

Honestly, I'd love to see a lot more friendly Super Mutants in future Fallout games.
Very important part of the lore, nice video!
Even though I know so much about fallout I still love watching great lore videos like these.
these are the best videos i have seen in a while on youtube
Thank you, man. This will help me a lot with the tabletop Fallout RP game my friends are planning on getting started. I wanted to stick to the lore as much as possible without going overboard with my super mutant character.
This was incredibly interesting. I never got the chance to play Fallout 1 or 2 so a lot of lore is lost to me because of that. Although I have played Fallout 3 - 4 plus all the DLC. Always wondered about the different cosmetics and appearances of the Super Mutants but just figured it was a new look for each new game. Thanks for the upload!
I was also wondering that, one major difference in appearance is the use of braces (the weird strap pinning back their upper lips) seems to be no logical answer, it was simply the result of the designer having way too much fun and not thinking about the lore behind it
This channel is gaining momentum brilliant you deserve it man
I love these lore videos! Keep up the great work dude
I love your channel man you really go in-depth on some things that I'm sure nobody has ever explored. Keep up the good work
Oh hey, good to see a new fallout youtuber. The content you make are very good and professional. Keep it up
With FEV's often random effects, I'd like to imagine that 1 person got dipped, and then came out completely normal save for the sudden acquisition of a 20 foot leap and a third nipple.

I got recommended this video after only a few hours, I hope this means TH-cam is picking you up cause you deserve it!
Ironic that they depend on humans to continue their species, and yet if they turned all humans into super mutants they would mark the beginning of their own extinction.
This channel is top notch i dont know why it lacks so much attention
The blind mutant is most likely a skyrim easter egg :D
There is a cave where a blind bandit "reads" an empty book and "watches" the entrance :D
Correct me if I’m wrong but age and size aren’t directly correlated for all supermutants, fawkes is old enough to remember when his vault still had some people, logically this would make him a behemoth but he’s not, so I theorize that it’s a particular strain of FEV that causes super mutants to grow that large
your videos are so well produced and informational, keep doing what you do man, love the videos. hope you hit 100k soon :D
Hopefully future games will let you play as a super mutant protagonist
The town near Westek in 76 they yell at the player to get away from their home town or something like that.
Huntersville, they seem to be very protective of where they're born, provided they know where it is...
Still think a Fallout game where u can pick your race like Elder Scrolls would be fun. Imagine being a Super Mutant, Synth, ghoul or human. Each with different benefits
I've only watched a couple of your videos and I already love your channel keep up the good work

"I wonder what a human and super mutant child would look like."
Well judging by all the fascinating documentaries about super mutants mating with human women...
Honestly who cares. They are animalistic barbarians so if they die it's all good.
Amazing video, we love how you get straight to the point
I'm loving these videos! I'm a sucker for Fallout lore. Very professional looking video. There are so many cool super mutant characters in Fallout like Tabitha in Black Mountain (New Vegas). Her radio was hilarious. And Grahm in 76. And so much more. But anyways, keep up the great work man!
Super mutants are among my absolute favorite fictional beings. If a fallout movie or show ever happens, it had better capture the insanity and horror that is the super mutant. But I feel if it happens, they’ll be watered down due to how graphic they naturally are.
