Fallout's Cybernetic Organisms | Fallout Lore

  • Throughout the Fallout series many humans, ghouls, super mutants and even dogs, have had certain elements of their bodies replaced with cybernetic modifications. The definition of a Cyborg is a biological organism whose abilities have been extended beyond normal limitations, either through electronic, mechanical or robotic means. Synths on the other hand, which are synthetic in nature, are the polar opposite. They are synthetic organisms and while they do have human or animal flesh they are not considered cyborgs by definition, as such they will not be discussed, but they will receive their own dedicated video. Now, the use of implants and prosthetics was fairly normal before The Great War, with artificial organs being used in hospitals during lifesaving surgeries, but also more broadly in military and police settings. Specifically, implants that improved the defences and combat proficiency of Cyberdogs and Robobrains. However, the process of turning a biological organism into a cyborg isn’t as simple as I’ve made it sound, and many times the procedures were detrimental to the subjects health and wellbeing. As a result Doctors would only suggest cybernetic surgeries if it was a medical emergency. Whereas the US military took things to the extreme.

I know a lot of people don't like it when I mention Fallout Tactics, or non canon games in general, but where I do I've kept it brief! Enjoy!

My best guess for what happened to Star Paladin Cross is she either died trying to protect Owen or Sarah at some point or grew disgusted with what the BoS became after their deaths and left the group, likely causing them to erase all records of her and her accomplishments.

I could see four options for Cross:

  • @hermos3602

Almost every protagonist has two things in common. They can optionally become a cyborg and they can get drugged in some way.

32 mins in and hearing the reapers worship of tec makes me hear " the flesh is weak "

The Nemean subdermal armour is most likely named as such after the greek myth of Heracles first labour defeating the Nemean Lion who's golden fur was impervious to attacks.

Did the capital wasteland chapter send their entire force in fallout 4? If not, Cross could be holding down the fort in DC. Her being second in command would make her a good choice. Feel like it would be foolish of them to leave the Pentagon without some force defending it.

Unfortunately i don't get to play Fallout that much anymore, but i cant get enough of the lore.

  • @SalusFuturistics

I never picked up that the K-9000 flapping Metal Pieces were supposed to be the Ears.

Star Paladin cross Theory: in my head cannon, star Paladin cross is still in the capital Wasteland during the events of Fallout 4. She's leading the Lyons loyalists under the Lion's Pride Banner as the new outcasts, trying to maintain the frontier Justice that Elder lyons had originally wanted. Basically she and any other Brotherhood members still loyal to Elder Lyons' way of governing would have taken the place of the Brotherhood outcasts from Fallout 3.

I know there's very little in the post war world that can actually make cybernetics and create cyborgs and people with cyber parts, but I do still wish there were more instances of them in the games. Not like Synths or robots, more folks like Kellogg, real people with a few cyber parts

In Ingram's regard; I think it is like the prosthetics that connect to the nervous system to enable movement on a more natural level; thinking=movement. we have seen more strange things than something based in real reality lol

In regards to Star Paladin Cross, I've speculated that if she survived the deaths of both Lyons she remained loyal to the Brotherhood. But as Maxon took over and rolled back the Brotherhood's efforts in the Capital Wasteland (specifically the part where they are helping the people) Cross started retreating more and more from her post in the order. Opting to spend longer and longer alone in the wasteland itself, trying to protect the people. Cross always came across to me as an avid supporter of protecting the people, evident to her choosing to pursue and assist in project purity, and only working with a good Karma Lone Wanderer. I believe as the brotherhood cared less and less for the wasteland, and the likely hard stance Maxon takes on "Abominations," (something she may now fall under as a cyborg,) she now either spends her time exclusively in the wasteland, still technically securing advanced tech in the name of the brotherhood, or ended up willingly going AWOL from her post. Now being a potential target of the Brotherhood, similarly to Danse when his situation is resolved peacefully with Maxon. My personal head canon being she left the group, and helped settle the refugees of Rivet City after the Brotherhood took their reactor for the Prydwen.

Nemean Subdermal Armor can be found in New Vegas, too (as can the Monocyte-Breeder implant that heals the player over time - very very very very slowly unless you install a mod to make this thing worthwhile!)

  • @mmonge954

When bought the implants or got the perk I wanted to look like a cyborg and I was kind of bummed out FO4 didn't have any cybernetics options.

I love these Fallout legacy lore videos! You channel is one of the few things that keeps the Fallout community worthwhile.

Okay, I believe when Arthur Maxson became the new Elder, he purged and destroyed any knowledge about turning people into cyborgs because he viewed cyborgs as inhuman monsters. That could be Star Paladin Cross's fate, she could been targeted for destruction and was killed with Reginald Rothchild. That or she was one of the members who were loyal to Owyn Lyons' philosophy and was killed when many who still remained loyal to Lyons were purged during the rejoining of the Brotherhood of Steel and the Brotherhood Outcast.
