It’s not about the spine. He is talking about “Long blade”. So instead of sticks, the training has replaced bolo (sword knife) with sticks. The illustrated techinique here is showing how to cut someone’s throat and slice the neck off the body.
Isn’t that the truth. But, you can keep learning every year of your life. And you can try many and learn from others who have learned what you haven’t. Also the magic of choosing a few and going deeply is that it prepares you to learn and incorporate quickly and meaningfully. You literally train your brain to soak up those chance encounters when you meet a stranger and connect and he has his escrima and a few minutes.
From my army experience to VERY small time mma, I wish I would've branched out and got experience with this type of martial art. From what I've seen to street fighting in a stand up stance I'm really starting to really see the technical aspect. BJJ as a street fight way tears your back up or your knees & elbows depending on position cuz I've always been in a small rock parking lot. I've always relied on my ground experience but this could've saved a lot of times of having a scratched up back or elbows. I enjoy watching these techniques. Thank you.

@@Shoom-wv7ggso you saw one short clip of a technique being explained and all of a sudden the whole art is useless? Lol. You must be a 1000x world champion of keyboard fighting championship. 🤡
I’ve never trained Kali, but it looks like it’s an extremely beneficial art to learn for street self defense because once you learn the basics of how to attack/defend with a small stick, you’ll be able to use pretty much anything as an improvised weapon.
Yes, you can end fight there with 1 or 2 strikes like my teacher said if you use it on streets, you decide how fast you would like to be in jail coz it can kill very fast.
My critique or maybe question is a better term, is I've seen a handful of short demonstrations and each one seems as though his techniques would only work on a 1 arm attacker... He's most definitely great at explaining his message clearly, whatever that may be.
Provided that, like every other technics, your training and practice turns into muscle memory reflexes. If you still have to recall and figure out what to do or how to counter, then might as well beat it as fast as you can.
The best technique is a rapid one of least resistance, simple techniques that break, crush and debilitate adversaries immediately The longer you take, the more opportunities you leave open The reality is kids, you kill or you will be killed Military combat instructor, 101st airborne
After seeing this as a healthy 73 year old, who's getting closer to 80 every day, it looks like that if I ever need a walking stick at any time in the future, I'll have a ready made legal self defence weapon, very handy at My fingertips so muggers beware.
I been a practitioner sense I was six I’m 43 and one thing about being Filipino is we are born with a blade by our side and taught very young very lethal techniques from our Lolos, fathers and uncles who are from the old country…
We are too the Mexican / chicano knows about blades and sticks at a very early age. We know about the Knife. It is common for Mexicans like me to carry a few blades on us. The streets don’t play. And nothing is rehearsed . The blade isn’t used at all, it is for life protection situations when there is no way out.
Still amazes me that there are so many branches of Eskrima Kali. All with similar & different techniques. When he pulls - if that was the blade side - it would cut open the neck. Ouch!
From a stick stand point it may make sense. Since he said long blade…., it may be a dangerous technique for the user. Try that with a Live Blade (sharpened blade), and you may end up cutting not just your attackers throat, but yours as well.
you watch too many movies lol. The Artherial Vein in your throat is as tough as a twig, gonna need more force to even cut it open. The worst you could get in that position is the flesh getting mild laceration. most long blade in context in my country is one sided edge, ala Itak/Machete. so the blunt edge would sit on your neck either way.
I assume he means after you strike the guy in the neck with your blade, the second move will completely remove the head. For a quick death . Idk when you gonna end up in a sword fight , but 👍
"Blade" and stick has different dynamics in terms of application. Be critical to what is applicable. Blade and impact weapon applications/ dynamics must be taught separately. Their difference in application must be taught carefully.
Yes, but i this clip the sharp side is against his opponent, while the blunt side is against his own neck for leverage. It would work Even better with a sword than a stick, but it would be much more dangerous if it was sharp. It’s always possible to do drills with stick first, then fine tune it with blunt swords etc after.

This is a good technique with a baton. It's not all about that brawler street fight. Most of security professionals need to move people securely out. It's not always a fight of live and death

You don't need all that after you hit him in the face once. Just him twice ,thrice..... he'll be out soon. Keep it simple.😂😂
You sound like a expert!!!
It's still a good drill
It’s about knives and swords though till death
It's for controlling really tough opponents. One hit is almost never enough.
