MMA was effectively part of knights and othet cultures training far back as age of Sparta and ancient Greece. Ground combat and such where practiced regularly.

We do what's called Historic European Martial Arts, it goes all the way from daggers and big longswords to sabres and poleaxes with black padded armor usually. We tend to just wear thick gambesons with fencing masks and armor pads for the joints. The points are scored based on where you hit, most points for the head, whether it's a stab or strike and bonus if you knock your opponent over or deflect the opponents blade and hit in the same motion called a chamber. It's lot less agressive than this though and we almost never use shields so precision is key. In my opinion it looks a lot cooler than this does and has more tournaments than medieval mma, you should definitely check it out.

+toast1012 You didn't really need to pierce armor to kill someone back then, in fact, it was easier just to beat a person through the armor than to try to pierce it. Either way this isn't even full plate, which means you can cut through the joints and other places. This is also assuming you wish to kill the opponent, which isn't really ideal nowadays.
These swords are blunt. Also very light, much lighter than a baseball bat. I'd rather get hit by these than get my face rearranged at a baseball game. edit: did some research, they're mostly the same weight, still the amount of force and travel distance behind a flying baseball bat hits harder than a blunt sword flicked at you from 10 meters. Of course, if the tip hits you in the eye that's different business. I saw a different video where the swords were actually strapped to the wrist of the fighter by the hilt, so even if they swing and let go it'll just flop out of their grip and won't fly into the crowd.
I'd like to propose some ideas which might make this more entertaining: 1. Fight in an outdoor Ring of sorts, perhaps made of scrapwood. 2. Commentators dress as feudal lords and present the ring girl adorned in feudal regalia 3. A smithy from which the fighters choose their weapons before the fight. 4. Dodge rolling 5. Wine and furs pourethed forth upon the victor 6. Latin
Whole things gotta be overseen by a decrepit pope who is introduced in latin. Also he’s gotta sit super high in a skybox. If there’s a draw or confusion his holiness decides the fates.

Go to Thailand the kick boxing-muay thai fights are way more brutal than this, these guys are covered head to toe in chainmail and armor so those hits don’t hurt much and fyi these knight guys would get dropped without armor from 1 kick to the gut or leg by a good fighter in thailand also the fighters also do multiple fights in a single night

I really expected a brawl and wild fighting and I was amazed how tactical and versatile these guys fought. I thought medieval fighting was a stupid idea but this was quite exciting. Great fight

+toast1012 You didn't really need to pierce armor to kill someone back then, in fact, it was easier just to beat a person through the armor than to try to pierce it. Either way this isn't even full plate, which means you can cut through the joints and other places. This is also assuming you wish to kill the opponent, which isn't really ideal nowadays.

These swords are blunt. Also very light, much lighter than a baseball bat. I'd rather get hit by these than get my face rearranged at a baseball game.
edit: did some research, they're mostly the same weight, still the amount of force and travel distance behind a flying baseball bat hits harder than a blunt sword flicked at you from 10 meters. Of course, if the tip hits you in the eye that's different business.
I saw a different video where the swords were actually strapped to the wrist of the fighter by the hilt, so even if they swing and let go it'll just flop out of their grip and won't fly into the crowd.

I'd like to propose some ideas which might make this more entertaining:
1. Fight in an outdoor Ring of sorts, perhaps made of scrapwood.
2. Commentators dress as feudal lords and present the ring girl adorned in feudal regalia
3. A smithy from which the fighters choose their weapons before the fight.
4. Dodge rolling
5. Wine and furs pourethed forth upon the victor
6. Latin
7. replace the useless swords with axes or maces
8. increase a round duration from 3 to 5 min

Go to Thailand the kick boxing-muay thai fights are way more brutal than this, these guys are covered head to toe in chainmail and armor so those hits don’t hurt much and fyi these knight guys would get dropped without armor from 1 kick to the gut or leg by a good fighter in thailand also the fighters also do multiple fights in a single night
