Just a reassurance that this channel is always 'feel good' content. I started watching your channel because I like growing things, I stuck around for the cats, the sometimes-goofy antics and generally good humour. I have always felt like you guys are the kind of people who I would be friends with IRL. You are definitely being the good in the world.

Aww, in the end it's a master piece. That's a beautiful arrangement in the ceiling. Sometimes everything doesn't have to be planned out because that arrangement wasn't planned out but look at the beauty. Well done 👏 both of you. I will be starting my own little cut flower business this year. Let see how that works. I live in an apartment, I'm yet to see someone who doesn't have their own farm showing a flower business from just having a little plot at a community garden. 😅 Fingers cross, I'll be attempting to do that this year. 😅 I'll definitely be keeping up with you guys. Would love to have my own farm, just waiting on God to bless me with that...

That dried arrangement turned out beautiful! Now you need a rustic type sign below it with your Farm Name on it. Have a sign asking people to take selfies with it and tag you on social media. I hope Ian is prepared to sell closer to 100 bouquets at the Market each week now.

I don't know if it would get that much but I would use the same rule I used with my paintings. If I took something to a show I really liked i put a high price tag on it so. . . if someone was willing to pay that. . I was willing to part with it.

That arrangement turned out beautifully! And great work tidying and prepping for the season. That’s the stuff that I put off all the time, but man it makes such a huge difference when you don’t have to shuffle things around to make space or find what you need before you get to work.

  • @dog6607
    @dog6607 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

I suppose it depends on how many bunches you used and your hourly, but for an arrangement this size I'd say guess $350-$500? It's stunning and adds so much to the space, well done!

@@YouCantEatTheGrass I believe that!! I struggled myself with pricing my dried flower arrangements with all that's involved in them. How to monetarily quantify alllllll the work, from seeding to planting to watering to pruning to harvesting to processing to then finally the actual creation, it takes to get to this step is tricky - consumers often times can't grasp the enormity of work required to get to this stage, i mean you can only really appreciate it fully, in my opinion, if you have done the work yourself. But no doubt everyone can appreciate the beauty of this work, hopefully enough to pay with out fuss what price tag you put on it. Thanks for putting out there into the universe the work that goes into these creations!!!! It helps consumers understand and grow a deeper appreciation for farmers i think.

So true. The stuff that you don’t use keeps you from going forward. Organization is all fine and dandy but without the major purge first you just keep shuffling stuff. Stuff is a time warp. Efficiency is key.

My shop experience would of used a messy glue gun on maybe wood, or bark, etc. but your rolled up wire was the perfect mechanic in this high end arrangement. Just watch the orders come in! Dried flowers is a whole nuther thing.

We've bought 5 sets of chrome shelving from Costco (BC wait for the sales for like $109 for 6 shelf one, heavy duty caster wheels). I use two sets for growlights in two different rooms, and we use it for overflow storage at our home for kids toys, seasonal wear, etc. I could use another 3 for plant stuff. The only thing I do wrong each time is NOT make enough space between some shelves sometimes (for grow shelves)and have to adjust as they grow (no greenhouse/hoophouse). I love how you two analyze your efficiency around the farm. These types of tips and suggestions are helpful even just at home.

The dried flower display, it looks FANTASTIC! I’d price out it out at $500 minimum. I think it’ll help in selling the dried flower bouquets as people will see that and want to bring home a bit of the dried flowers for their own homes.

I've seen your dried arrangements before but THIS ONE!! Oh my gosh it is beautiful. I was kinda on the fence about dried flowers but I think I'll do some. I'm just starting my little farm. Just closed on 1.44 acres and it is all grass. Unfortunately not the good grass. For me it will be a one-woman operation so I need to keep it on a plan and organized to help me save time and effort. Definitely doing dried flowers because of your influence. =)

Great job! Farm is looking good. Flower arrangement is beautiful (might have been a little easier if wire roll was 3-6” below ceiling…could roll wire around some dried moss to help hold flower stems in). Should they start to fall out a little hot glue may save the day. So glad you have space to make your bouquet arranging more efficient. You always looked so cramped. Time saving is crucial. If you can save one minute per bouquet and you make 60 bouquets, that’s one hour of time saved……one hour….that’s huge. Kraft paper flower sleeves might make a difference as well. More expensive than paper, but no folding or stapling. There seem to be many different types available. Also, a stem cutter may be helpful….one cut instead of a dozen. Nicole (Flower Hill Farm) has one. She could tell you if works well for her. It looked like it worked well, although she had it on a table that seemed too low for a lot of cuts which would put stress on the back. I think Sunflower Steve sent it to her. On a different note, an exercise I learned about years ago to prevent carpel tunnel just popped into my mind….clench your fist as hard as you can and hold it that way for a time (sorry don’t remember how long), then open your hand and stretch it as much as you can and hold it. Repeat it several times. There’s probably something on line that would give you more information. You do a lot of repetitive motion with your cutting hand. You both use your hands a lot. Might help prevent something down the line. Happy almost spring. That little weed flower was nice to see…a preview of better things to come. 🥰

It will definitely be nice to have all that extra space to move around. That room got pretty packed on those big flower days last summer, lol.
A stem cutter is definitely on the list for this year - thanks for the reminder. I've been avoiding getting one till now because of our children being in all the work areas - they are trained to be safe with knives, but those cutters are super dangerous.
I'm pretty lucky that my hands don't bother me much with the snips for harvesting. Potentially because I'm ambidextrous, and I switch my hands out before I get fatigued. But I'll keep those exercises in mind, because it's definitely something I think about (especially after using the soil blocker, lol)

I notice it. I’ve always wondered why y’all never put in the time toward the esthetics of your beautiful space… but I understand how much hard work y’all put in growing your produce and flowers plus having the younger kids to contend with.. I’ve been waiting for the clean up. 😊♥️

I have started so many flowers by seed this year. Thank you for your content and excitement in gardening. Good Luck on your new venture into flower farming. Im going to be watching you grow...

Put your logo and name of your farm under that dried flower arrangement or put up some photos of your vegetables, flowers to fill the blank space on the walls. Also print some business cards for people to grab while they’re shopping in the stall.
Just some ideas to help you guys 😃

The dried flower arrangement is beautiful. There's no way I could put a price on it, though. I had the thought about when your drive-up customers see the arrangement in the next months, that it mind make them think how beautiful and long lasting dried flowers are. It may encourage them to purchase dried flower arrangements.

The dried flowers definitely don't sell as often as the fresh. So I'm hopeful too

You could do different shapes with the wire and I could see a bride getting married under something like that and paying a couple hundred or so for you to make it, double bonus it is already preserved and the bride can hang it in her home. Make it easy to unattach and rehang! Very fun idea!!

The dried flower piece in market house looks fantastic! Your video where you made the Christmas ornaments with dried flowers really inspired me to grow dried flowers this year!....I'm so excited to see how colorful things are going to get on your farm this year! Sounds like you have a handle on some time saving tricks. I know you guys are environmentally friendly but I would think a little electric powered buggy would save you guys time getting around on the farm. Great job so far!

Have you thought about opening an internship for those who want to learn how to work in a flower farm? Even just for help on the weekends before market. For those nearby anyway.

You are so right, I need to do a major clean out of the garage TODAY before the season gets busy. Temps in the 50's this afternoon and snow tomorrow. An uncluttered space is such a great mental gift. Love the dried flower swag too. I'm starting seeds for many new to me flowers just for drying. Never thought of using the chicken wire as a form and the swag is really pretty!
