Banjo is perfect, bass player is flawless, violinist superb, and deep voice vocal is on point. Put it all together and this is pure audio ecstasy. You never fail to amaze with your renditions of popular music, problem is you do it better than the originals or any other rendition. Well done.
When my father was growing up in the Soviet Union, he would risk being arrested for buying illegal bone tracks. You could only play them a few times and then they wore out. You never knew if you would get Elvis, Johnny Cash, The Beach Boys, The Beatles etc. He once got this song by Johnny Cash (he thinks). He said the lyrics swept him away. He is now a nuclear and quantum physicist but even though he was almost an adult, he just wanted to be an American cowboy (instead of a Siberian scientist). He heard this playing and recalled closing his eyes to visualize the lyrics being played in his mind and said “whoever is singing that is amazing”. Now that he can buy whatever music he wants and the musician is noted, he said “I would buy this”. I will search iTunes for him. He’s older than my mom by a little over 20 years (he’s 70) and yet I could tell this song transported him. There was no music this good when he was younger. He risked a lot to buy music he could only play once or twice (four times but it would skip) but loss of job, freedom, blacklisting he said it was worth it. He loved music that sent chills down his spine. He did say he didn’t understand Harper Valley PTA at the time. He said his English language skills were not that great and he had no idea what a PTA was. Odd, your comment reminded me that music really does transcend time and place.

This song was actually written in the 1800s. I don't know the whole story but, it's made its way into the hearts of the decades to come and go. I still love it.
This song was written about an old Texas panhandle legend. The legend is built on cowboy tales about cattle drives with deadly outcomes throughout the 1800's. This is my understanding and the name of the place I am uncertain of but at least that's how I remember it. Great story, great song, great rendition.
Wow, this is an awesome version of this song… great vocals (across the board), and a very nice video to boot. Thank you all… will be checking out more of your videos real soon based on what I’ve seen (and heard) in this one! 👍😀
It’s actually a Tin Pan Alley song first recorded by Burl Ives in the 1940s. Bing Crosby recorded it. Johnny Cash’s version was the 6th or 7th hit recording. Clever video but mediocre music.

Nice rendition of this Johnny Cash classic in the peculiar Southern Raised style. As always, excellent background setting! This time it reminds us an Old West ambiance. (My favorite Southern Raised classic rendition is "Wayfaring Stranger", though.)

This tune has haunted me from the first time I heard it, and that was too long to remember . You did a beautiful job. I have just found your channel and will listen to more songs.
Actually Gene Autrey would be proud. He sang it originally. Cash made it better and S.R. just added their flair to it which greatly enhanced its greatness:)
Stan Jones wrote it , and recorded it first circa '48- '49 . But everybody who is anyone in Western Swing , Country ,Pop, and Southern Rock has either recorded it ,or played Live.

Many legends have made this song their own, add yourselves to the list...magnificent, loved it!
Please don't stop to sing the country music.❤❤❤
This is amazing! I know it's not y'alls style but I am compelled to play loud obnoxious leads over this💯🎸🎶 It's just to good. GREAT JOB GUYS👏🎶
Excellent! They made me travel to the good old west! Nostalgic, yet happy to hear them.
An absolutely fantastic group of very talented musicians. Love that bass voice!
Muito linda essa versão... Adoro está música.....lenda da música country americana...
It’s actually a Tin Pan Alley song first recorded by Burl Ives in the 1940s. Bing Crosby recorded it. Johnny Cash’s version was the 6th or 7th hit recording.
Clever video but mediocre music.
@@thomaskline that’s not mediocre music, why you compare them with great country music singers? That’s not the point.
A bass version of this? Best I ever heard. Listened to this for years but this out does all others
Great job everyone! Enjoyed this video and the music. I was in the audience at Shepherd of the Hills a year ago. Great setting for a video.
It was amazing! So cool to get to film there! Thank you
@@SouthernRaisedBG been waiting for you guys to do something like this!!! one of my favorite 20th century songs sung by one of my fav bands
Love the video & the music was awesome, the location is perfect! Shepherd of Hills outdoor theater. You couldn’t have pick a better place for it! Nice job!!
Thank you so much!!!
That is where I thought this was shot. Love this version. First video watched on this channel.
Outstanding
Lead singers voice is awesome, great rendition of this song.
Nice rendition of this Johnny Cash classic in the peculiar Southern Raised style. As always, excellent background setting! This time it reminds us an Old West ambiance. (My favorite Southern Raised classic rendition is "Wayfaring Stranger", though.)
Hey thank you very much!!
Here is an old Spanish version of this classic by the world famous artist from Spain, Raphael Martos: th-cam.com/video/NOY4kJkeGVQ/w-d-xo.html
Not a "Johnny Cash classic" MUCH older-- from Vaugh Monroe through Sons of the Pioneers, etc al ❣️
This song was around a LONG time before Johnny Cash!
Stan Jones is credited with writing the song in 1948 but the Johnny Cash version is one of the most popular.
Great music, reminds me of living in the backwoods of West Virginia and listening to my neighbor sing blue grass, his voice was a little deeper. Great job ladies and gents. Want your album........
This tune has haunted me from the first time I heard it, and that was too long to remember . You did a beautiful job. I have just found your channel and will listen to more songs.
Johnny Cash would be Proud. You all did an amazing job singing this one. I'll be eagerly waiting for more songs from your band.
Thanks so much!!
When I first started watching this I didn’t expect much after listening to Vaughn Monroe, Marty Robbins, and Johnny Cash, but these people are really good. Great sound, haunting singer, perfect voice for ghost riders.
This can't be real!?!? Second song I've ever heard of you and you meld the ladies voices in the perfect places of these two song... This and sixteen tons... Wow.. Chills once more
Perfect!
Lovely song! Music for all times! Best execution! Beautiful performer! Listen and looked with pleasure! Thanks!
It's so lovely that people are carrying on this old masterpiece.
