You're the man for Photoshop training. You go deep and show me stuff I did not know yet. Thanks very much. Keep up posting advanced Photoshop training please.
I keep saying to myself : fantastic guy this Blake..!!! Why? Because he shares all the time valuable knowledge? No, no is not just that..! On top of everything, Blake shares the enthusiasm and the pleasure of working in Ps, and I am talking about that pleasure had when you discover a solution to a difficult math problem, when you find solutions to a geometry puzzle problem...I am in loved with math, (and Digital Image Processing) and I made this comparison, because I noticed the same excitment at Blake! No more words to say: God bless you Blake!
Hahaha! That is so true, I REALLY love what I do and I love solving difficult problems. Math was always my favorite subject in school, the harder the better ;)
I still remember the first video I've watched from you. It was about how to detect the dominant colors in an image using the intensity slider in ACR (white balance). It was so simple I couldn't believe with only one slider you could see it. That's what I love about your videos, your simplicity and how you make things easier for us to understand. Regards.
Simplicity is the best! I try to make these difficult things easy to understand. This one... wow, this one was a 35 minute video before editing. I had to cut a LOT out. It's hard to teach so I am glad to hear it is comprehendible, haha
Very insightful. I’ve used blend-if for several years but never considered using a color overlay to preview what areas are being “masked”. Thank you for this!
You can also take the color overlay showing the "masked" areas stamp them into a new layer. Change that layer to difference and make a real mask that is much more detailed and correct than anything photoshop can do with its masking tools.
Well, Rudis. You did it. Last straw; icing on the cake; la crème de la crème. As a result of this video plus the very simple HSL color grading video, I became an elite member. Awesome work.
Morning Sean, After the pleasure of watching your latest Blend Iff tutorial, I hasten to bring tribute to you as an exceptional artist, photographer and Photoshop expert. As enthusiastic and creative thinker, who shares his expertise with enthusiasim, you truly are a man for all seasons! Kind regards, The octoganerian from South Africa, Nico.
My first lesson with blendif came about 15 years ago while adding grafitti to a brick wall behind a model. I wanted the artwork to look as if it had been weathered. It is such a powerful tool. Great video!
That is crazy. I have to go back and go through this a couple times. I never cease to be amazed at what I don't understand about Photoshop. Way cool, Blake.
🤯 Good stuff here. As a BW artist this really is a great tool as I usually have my color layers underneath my BW conversion layers. I use different masking methods but had to do double work sometimes because masks aren’t “fluid”. Thanks so much for showing how to use BlendIf with the color channels, I’m excited now!
OPIA - outside the sliders are protected, inside the sliders are affected. This is how I will remember the technique. Thanks for the great tutorial. Update: I tried this one for portrait split toning and it worked well (I got out of my genre box hehe). And that magenta color overlay in the Blend If panel gives a very good view of what is being affected/protected.
Excellent job Blake. I have used the BlendIf with the blue channel to help with sky replacements. This video takes it up several notches. If you ever visit the Cincinnati area, I owe you a cup of coffee for this one. You continue to Rock with when it comes to the PS channels on here.
@@f64Academy if you’re a tea guy, I won’t hold that against you since your videos and zone system are so good. Blend If is so great for application of ZS, and you’re new approaches to color grading are very intuitive and extremely easy to use as complimentary tools to help with understanding color theory!
You have convinced me about the power of Blend If, Blake! I am a believer. I find I am using it more than I thought I would, thanks to you. This is a powerful video. Thanks for sharing.
You just blew my mind with this! I've been using luminosity masking plugin panels to do this same thing but Blendiff seems to offer more precision with the added benefit of a smaller working file size. With 32GB of RAM my new iMac still slows down as the file size grows closer to 1GB. Even hitting Purge>All doesn't help much. Using Blendiff is now my new modus operandi.

Protect the other(s) color(s)! What a clever way to do this! Thanks to your dedication/disposition to make our life easier on PS, I finally can put Blend If to work properly for me and my work. I thought I was watching just another blend if tutorial until you started talking bout color blend-if 🤯. Thank you for the research you put in to come up with these crazy techniques!!! Gonna go have fun with blend if now !
Thanks, Blake. It's really a great tool and one you brought me back to some years ago. I first encountered and used Blend-if for color blending more than 15 years ago, and this is still my favorite way to use it, and I think I wasn't really cognizant why I like it with color but you make it clear with your explanation of how well it works as a continuous modifier for changes happening underneath. Kudos once again.
Great technique! This surpasses luminosity methods by a bunch and is why I purchased your Zone system panels and training yesterday. You make very pertinent and easy too understand content. 👍
Just discovered your channel. Amazing tutorial. Mind blown 🤯 😱 I have a completely better understanding of blendif now. You make it very clear when you used the word protect in-front of underlying layer. I always struggled with the concept of understanding what it was doing before.
Absolutely Brilliant as always, making complex subjects detailed in an "as simple as possible" manner ... love the down to earth approach while explaining your ideas about the process. Totally agree with you in this method, it actually opens-up more possibilities and flexibilities on all 3 RGB channel's and their corresponding luminosity values individually too, resulting in an absolute precision control over the tonal values in the given range(s). You just made my day by clearing my hunch I was having recently. Regards 👍👍👍
Excellent instruction - I've been following you and been an Elite member for a few years and I'm finally start to get blend-if. The RGB blend-if completely confused me. Thanks!
Thank you thank you thank you! I have been using blend if for years and never knew about the colour overlay! I always eyeballed it 😆 The visual aid is so much better. Also never realised you could combine R/G/B AND gray 🤯

Its so powerful! I rarely teach it this deep because it is very difficult to teach it to that level of depth. Lots of complexities. I hope I did well with it here because it can be tricky to comprehend for sure, but even harder to teach.
