    There is nothing I enjoy more about photo post-production than the finishing effect phase. That’s when I take my time fine-tuning and polishing my photographs to create mood and emotion for the viewer.
    That’s when I craft the experience to share with others who may not have seen the beauty I did at the moment. Over the years, I have used many finishing effect techniques, but they all seem to pale in comparison to the power of the Diamond Gradient.
    Yep, the diamond gradient of all things. I first discovered it on accident while recording my Ps Foundations course on Gradients. It was indeed a happy accident and one so genuine that I even left my reaction in the class when I first discovered it.
    I’d say that almost any gradient can be used to manipulate the viewer’s mood, but the Diamond Gradient is always a happy surprise when I use it.
    Gradients are an incredible way to use Color Theory to control the mood of the image while Color Grading. In one adjustment Layer, you can completely transform a photo from reasonably good to AMAZING! But you have to use the right blend mode.
    I have a whole video for you on this topic today, but here are some quick Gradient Tips:
    1. Use the Soft Light Blend Mode to start as it will be the easiest to get a general idea of what the resulting image will look like.
    2. Use the scale to make the gradient exceedingly small to dial it in exactly where you want it.
    3. Experiment with many different colors of gradients. Your first gradient may be a mess! But try to use gradients that exploit the color combination in the base image.
    4. Stick to compliments and colors that are found in nature. Sunlight can be exaggerated very easily with orange and yellow hues, while sunset skies and clouds may appreciate deeper blue, red, or magenta.
    Watch today’s video to get a better understanding of how to use the Diamond Gradient in Photoshop. Don’t forget to download the goodies I have provided as well. 😊

    How can you not be excited with the enthusiasm Blake brings in every tutorial. With all the horror going on in the world, this man truly gives me hope for our future. He is a gift to the photography world and I was blessed the day I discovered him. I'm not sure what else I can say about this man that I haven't already in other places. If you follow him, you will learn a ton and become open to your (in my case) hidden artist inside. If he can make an old, nerd of an engineer, excited about making art, he can certainly help you - especially if you join f64 elite. You get much more than your money's worth, I guarantee you. It is the most value I've ever gotten, by a lot, of any photographic purchase I've ever made - and no, he doesn't pay me to say this, he's just that good!

    Are you able to do a video on how to use the gradient tool in camera raw to replace physical filters esp creating revers grad and one that darkens sunset/sunrise on horizon and lightens as it goes out in both directions. Adobe really need to have option to do this in camera raw rather than the stock grad

    • @f64Academy
      @f64Academy  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can definitely do that, but you do need to know your camera and sensor well to really be able to control it. You kind of have to be aware that you are going to do it in post while you are shooting. The reason is because it could cause your highlights to blowout or shadows to clip if the exposure was not right in the first place.

    • @tonys3112
      @tonys3112 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@f64Academy see 3:03 in your video on what im thinking. Nisi do a reverse grad and a grad that is dark in center and fans out lighter for sun on horizon. I would use 2 exposures. Email sent with links explaining more with examples.

    I really appreciate this tute....I’ve been using PS for 25 years but never caught on to this snappy use of the diamond. Everyday is a chance to learn. I guess that if you stop learning then it’s time to pack it in. Many thanks Blake.......just tried it on a fairly flat landscape I took 20 years ago....quite a transformation. Must admit that I am not keen on using other people’s work on my own images, such as actions, templates and looks....a step too far. Creating an image should surely be the creator’s own work. You wouldn’t expect Picasso to get someone to step in to "speed his work flow."

      @f64Academy  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well it worked right? If it works and you like it, does it matter you learned from someone else? That's why I share this stuff, so we can all grow. I'm glad you found some use of it, maybe I can teach you some more if you stick around 😁

    This is fantastic! I've used gradients but never the diamond before. One issue though, when I click through gradients in the gradient panel to see the effect, the gradient style always switches back to the linear gradient? Anyone else have this?

    • @f64Academy
      @f64Academy  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      In the gradients window, click the menu icon in the upper right. There you can change what your of gradient it defaults to.

      You can't used gradients to make profiles.. You can use gradient maps, but more not gradients, they are too unpredictable.

    Why would you use a diamond gradient over a radial gradient? Is it just a preference thing or is there additional/alternative functionality?

    • @f64Academy
      @f64Academy  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Functional difference. Look at how it flares out. When you use that on a horizon line it looks so much more dynamic than a radial gradient.
