    You can also test tea, coffee, various juices, soft drinks, citric acid and calcium hydroxide. The last two are from the canning supplies section at Walmart. I have done this with Upward Bound in the summer. Students love it. I stick to rather innocuous chemicals for safety reasons. Students do it with test tubes in a test tube rack and try to get the gradations from color to color in the tubes. After the students get the color spectrum, have them mix different acids and bases and try to get back to neutral. Measure water and chemicals to do this. It's sort of a hands on math lesson in pH.

    • @aljim2889
      @aljim2889 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +ßαѕнαуеʀ. ßader I don't think it would work. You won't be able to perceive any difference in color since the pH change will be very small (6.5-7.5). Only in cases when the water is highly contaminated with an acid or a base, this indicator should then work.

    just wondering, was the bubbling because of exothermic reactions (you had suphuric acid and water in there) of just because of the carbonic acid losing the CO2 molecules?

    • @joseavila5034

      Acidity is measured in solutions, because it measures the amount of H3O+ molecules in the liquid. You would need to dissolve the candy in an appropiate solvent.

      Multiplication did you find out eventually? IF so why?

    • @ilyesjebalia9757
      @ilyesjebalia9757 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      because red cabbage (as well as all plants) contains sugars, which if left at room temperature for a really really long time, (assuming some bacteria resides in the liquid) will produce large, naturally acid, bacterial colonies, which could affect the experiment, by refrigerating the substance, this slows down the consequence explained above and allows the substance to be used over a longer period of time before becoming less precise,
      However maybe the guy performing this experiment was not aware of this and just refrigerated this for other reasons
