I am monogamy minded but I find it so bizarre this rush to exclusivity during the dating stages. Even if we go back to the 40s and 50s, there are dating guides and diaries out there that advise and describe the experiences of young women being pursued by at least 3 men - and going on dates with ALL of them without expectation of physical intimacy. The men would obviously pay, they weren't meant to get handsy, and sometimes this would go on with several suitors for about a year. It feels like we've gone backwards and twisted it all so that being courted by a few people is demonised but then you're encouraged to sleep with someone who you've only met twice! It's so crazy to me!
