    Omg ... you’re a genius !!👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻. You’re the right teacher for me with online videos!
    I can’t go sewing classes , I noticed I can learn online with the right teacher and I can do it in the comforts of my home in the middle of the night 😁😁 when everyone is sleeping. That’s when I am left alone , no one calling for my help.
    I have been so frustrated with long sleeves. now , I can shorten my own sleeves!
    Thank you for posting 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

    Simply amazing! My neighbour was desperate for his favourite shirt shortening. I don't do clothes alternations normally but he wanted me to do it. I was dreading it but now after I have seen this clear and simple spot on instructions I won't fear it anymore! It is lot simpler than I thought it will be1 Thank you so much! 🙂

    This video was extremely helpful to me. Not only did it teach how to achieve the overall goal of shortening the sleeve, but it showed how to do each and every step. The only thing it missed was removing and reattaching the placket. Let me watch it again, maybe I missed it. The only thing is if you need to shorten the sleeve, it is likely that you need to narrow the sleeve. I hope you have a video on that!

    I would also remove the placket, recut the slit, reinstall the placket. More work, better look.

    This is interesting. I have shirts I wear big for chores like gardening. However, I don't need the sleeves several sizes too big.
    Now I just need 15 minutes to turn into three or four hours - but only when doing sewing projects. Never enough time to practice everything you have taught me over the years.
    Thank you!

    Thank you. The sleeves in every top I own, are way too long. I guess I must have short arms. You made this look soo easy that I am going to give it a try.

    Thanks for this. I'm trying to take a couple of shirts that have long cuffs for cufflinks and convert them to regular button cuffs. Any suggestions?

    I have long arms, but some sleeves are overly long and need shortening. Now I have a plan.

    Thank you -- that's so nice and clear! I feel like I could tackle that. And a side seam. Unfortunately, he bought several shirts that are too wide in the shoulders during the part of the pandemic where we couldn't go in stores or try things on ... narrowing the shoulders (somehow, still investigating) seems like a much bigger change. Not afraid to try it! :-) Just haven't figured it out yet.

    Because the cuff is already set nicely, I don't like messing with them. I make a pleat by the elbow instead.

    Does this work on denim jackets as well?

  • @dmperfection

    With wider sleeve length, could an easier fix be to deepen the pleats?

    Thank you so much for all your vids! But what is a back stitch? And how do you do it? Every time I try to back stitch my machine would become tangled up...

    • @ProfessorPincushion
      @ProfessorPincushion  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      a back stitch is the way for a machine to create a knot so your stitches won't come out. Basically all it's doing is going over a stitch more than once by pushing that button or lever that has a U-turn symbol. Make sure you're holding those thread tails for the first couple of stitches because sometimes the threads get sucked back into the machine and creates a bird nest effect. I don't know why your machine would be having problems but maybe take it into a sewing and vac shop for a professional maintenance and cleaning would help. In the meantime, you can do a knot by hand, by pulling the front thread to the backside, so both threads are on the same side and then looping a knot by hand.

      @moopmeister13 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Holding the thread AND maybe hand wind the needle into its first position might help?

    I need to shorten my sleeves by two inches but this will affect the slit. How do I alter this?

    • @TNJackie
      @TNJackie ปีที่แล้ว

      Take the placket off, cut the slit longer and put the placer back on. It’s time consuming but I’ve done it.

  • @sab1024
    @sab1024 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

    This is not the professional way to do this. Why would you want to shorten and lose your placket? Not to mention the off-looking appearance and style of the shirt. If you want to save your placket and be able to roll up your cuff and sleeves, and avoid a hack job, go to a tailor that is experienced in reattaching the placket and cuff as it was originally sewn. You have remove the placket and cuff, cut excess fabric and reattach the entire placket and cuff to the shirt. This is the lazy way to do this. Yes, it costs more as it is more complicated to do it right, but it's worth it. Yes, I am the fashion police, so please learn how to do it the professional way and look like million bucks!
