Both in Sam choosing to drop some French into the broadcast and Paul and Bobby choosing to pick on him for dropping in a pretty commonly understood French term.
Thank goodness they stopped racing on that terrible downtown circuit, which was so bumpy it was literally launching cars into the air. It just wouldn't be a race though if Andretti didn't have another tragic finish. It was fun to see Tracy show some of his potential after some false starts earlier.
I used to follow the Indy Lights and Toyota Atlantic series back then, as well as IMSA, but I must be getting old as I can't recall him from any of those series...
Checkout those walls down the "back straight". 2 cars clip on those curves and the cars are going direclty over the 4ft wall into the crowd at full speed with no breaking of speed... Then the marshall should run onto the track during green flag racing conditions and get the debris off the track... would be funny if it wasnt so insane. Things we took for granted back then!
Another thrilling final, I love so much this racing.
Been to Belle Isle a few times when they've done a double header with imsa. Cool place
An awesome racing video the cart champ was wicked
Sensational Indycar debut for Johansson!
Or “Joe Hanson” as Bobby Unser would say. 🤣
25:45 oh man that sound is amazing. Sends chills up and down my spine
I'd have to say the "enfant terrible" conversation at 1:14:43 is right up there in the running for the most Sam Posey thing that ever happened.
You have to love that guy. Still hoping for his Dinner with Racers episode.

I love Paul Page's retort. "We're in the US."
note that there is no post race. Golf was More Important.
17:23 Evidently, Bobby Unser wasn't looking at his monitor when Brian Till was absolutely plowed into by Eric Bachelart.
54:20 the moment Paul Tracy burst onto the IndyCar scene.

Interesting how much narrower the last few turns, front straight and turns 1-2 are compared to today’s Belle Isle.
Jay Hill's only AOWR race.
