There was none better than Paul Page. His Indy 500 calls were legendary.
A shame he didn't stick with cart so the tail end of his career was wasted on those ugly IRL crapwagons

Last week's race was the same with intermittent flickers to both or the right ear.
I miss those days where you had competition on all, engine, chasis, tires, and drivers.
A lot of times one car/engine dominated. It's nice, but honestly people look back with rose-tinted glasses.
,@@SwineBrothersI can't say for sure, but you know you were told certain engines at times were allowed higher boost numbers.
Teams that tested in wind tunnels did well. CART gave parameters and owners would make small mods. Mods had to be approved before a race. It was rawer.
@@Azframer It was for Indy, pushrod engines were allowed higher boost. I love CART, love watching these old races. But I also think modern Indycar's closer than it's ever been. But we need the engine to sound like this.
you can see the fuel fires today, methanol was invisible. The only visible flame is when something impure start to burn.
The engines loved that stuff.

This was my first Indycar race that I attended in person! In the Cleveland 1999 video, I was there too! Must be something special about these races, I always felt that way because I was there but there must be something more lol

This would turn out to be Robby Gordon's last pole and win in IndyCar.
And who would have thought that at the time?! From the points standings at the end of that race he looked like a real championship contender. But it all went down the rest of that season. And worse in '96 when he lost his mind because of many engine problems (many of which I think he was to blame for because of overdriving the engine).
I will miss Belle Isle
That track is so bumpy, drivers tear there hands up and lots of incidents
I will miss going there as well
1995 marked the beginning of the end for the Golden Age of Champ Car.

Greg was my favorite driver at the time and I was so happy when he won because it was so unexpected. I'll never forget it.

Very good race, I didn't have a chance to see this one before. Was looking forward to see Jacques driving but he was once in picture the whole race. :-)
Thanks for uploading this! This was peak pinnacle indycar! Want more of this! Was all downhill after this to where we are now (spec series). This Era was the best of f1 and indycar. Equalish racing but team competitiveness pushing the edge

I miss those various distinct paint schemes on the cars. They looked really great and different.
I really like the shape of the current IndyCar but the paint schemes are not that good. Will Power's car was the only highlight for me this year. I wonder what's the reason for that. The absence of good designers or is it just sponsor related?
However, Belle Isle had a great flowing layout for a street circuit, with many different corner angles and also some fast ones. The last races were quite entertaining as well.
