What a determined drive by Gordy in the last 10 laps. His handling totally went away how he held Rick off was incredible. He wasn’t gonna be denied this day. 2:10:00 love his wife’s response. That’s supporting your man right there.
All the comments of people remembering back incorrectly. This race was rained out. It rained all day the scheduled day and the following day The race didn't run until the following Saturday one week later.
Before Indy's split in 1996, Phoenix International Raceway was packed with people, and those who couldn't get a seat in the stands set up tents on a hill behind Turns 3 and 4. With the split, attendance decreased over the years. In short, Indy's split only harmed the category in several aspects.
The discussion about the tracy and bourdais is stupid with casters who do not know anything about racing, the straight bourdais is low, when tracy gets low in the corner, bourdais first trys to get below it, thats the natural reaction, then he trys to steer high, but you can't in these car go full right, so there was nothing to do at the point... The only argument is did bourdais got informed that tracy goes in the pit, but even that with all the bluffs is questionable!

If you look carefully at the two accidents, you can see at 12:27 how Richie Earn manages to correct the trajectory of his car just before the dune by turning the steering wheel to the right at the last moment. The move literally saves his life. Something that Greg Moore, however, was unable to do, whose left hand was seriously compromised. He simply shouldn't be allowed to run.
War of attrition is always a Factor in Michigan and Fontana You had to be in top shape to go 500 miles
I dislike halloween every year because of this race.
It's all down hill for cart after this race. :(
1:50:00 "What's that your wearing Deb?" "Oh this thing? It's nothing, just fell off my horse and broke my neck in two places, no big deal."
David Hobbs "It's bumpy, narrow, and off camber, which is very regrettable." An excellent description of just about every street circuit ever.
Buddy!!!
Love everything you do buddy. Just wish there was a place that those old Speed F1 broadcasts could be put up. Sad to see F1 crack down on everything.
Click bait title!!! Lol jk but could you imagine if this era of CART hit up The Rock in NC?

R.I.P Jeff Kronsnoff and Gary Arvin
Thanks a million for preserving so many of these CART treasures.
5:20 It’s weird that Paul page mention the US 500 (a.k.a. the previous name before they change it back to the Michigan 500)
Arguably 97,98 Cart races at Fontana were more popular than the nascar races. This epic racing at over 230 mph.
Pode crê
Coldwater still loves Gordy!!!
1:19:28 what a save by Greg. He did something similar earlier in the season. Awesome driving.

It has been 25 years since Greg Moore has died The racing community still misses you Greg 🪽🕊️🏆 1975-1999

I thought the pole-sitter set the pace for the start(?)

Right after "Start your engines" the announcer said"thirty three cars and 40 thousand horse power"??? I think the guy got a bad script.
4:26 Seeing Steve Olvey smile is just so wholesome. After every tragic announcement he's made, it's something he deserves!
😢

1:23:50 tracy complaining about what he done for years, finally someone who pays him back for all the times he crashed people!
I really really love watching these old indy car races a whole whole lot and I still watch indy car races
Amazing what Tony George destroyed.
Al Unser is a fine one to lecture Tracy and Penske on blocking.

RIP Gil 😥😇
18:15 That was an awesome save by Little Al that went unnoticed.
How cool to see Walter Payton at Indi RIP I still miss him
I find it ridiculous that cart died and indycar survived. This was so much better.
Best race❤
i like how Rio did an early version of the safer barrier
The best days of indycar racing
Greatest of my best indycar races of all time
