Senna; the dirtiest driver in F1 history, pushed of the track or into the wall other drivers again and again, like he did 52:25 here with a clearly faster Schumacher. But when Prost did it to Senna in 1989, hypocrite and pathological narcissist Senna was furious that Prost dared to do that to him.
Rookie Schumacher clearly faster than Senna. Senna the dirtiest driver in F1 history had to push Schumacher off the track to escape being overtaken a second time.
Crazy to think also this was McLarens last win till 97 and Williams last win in 97 than went winless till 2012.
Watching this race again after 30 years later was a trip. Because watching this race you start remembering things like the pit fire coming out of commercials. Start line chaos & Ferrari's 1st victory in 4 years. Happy for Gerhard Berger & I had tears of joy back then. Now after this race I shed some tears watch once again.
The race that killed Lotus. Herbert had the pace for at least 3rd if he had the chance.
Bonehead move by Irvine
In case anyone is wondering, the song in the Mansell portion of the intro is "Elderly Woman Behind The Counter In A Small Town" aka "Small Town" by Pearl Jam.
And at the time of the accident, ESPN missed the moment, showing an interview with Berger lol
The race was already with the new GC. Interestingly, SBT adopted this GC when it broadcast Indy here in Brazil (CART, in the split), between 1997 and 2000.
34:10 Too bad for poor Elton Julian, signed a three-year test deal with Larrouse, only for the team to go bust a short time later.
27:06 The crash sequence similar to the tragedy 20 years later
A mistake that became the reason why Formula 1 no longer races in the rain.
I wish espn had there own commentators today Bob Varsha was the American version of Murray Walker
i really like how much more critical the US commentary was compared to the British one, Derek Bell specially held no punches
44:55 it happens Here
Eddie Irvine was the most unpleasant F1 driver in history.
Audio Globo
They were still showing races on tape delay in the 90’s?
The race in which Martin Brundle wished he had the halo 😬
Poor Alex he came back only to go to INDYCAR and star than we all know what happened in 01 only to come back and fight than to get involved in two road accidents…
At the Spanish GP they celebrated again with champagne after two races with a bad atmosphere. Even though they were under the same bad atmosphere.
@@raiderbelacasa i think at that point it was "it could be any of us and we better celebrate while we can"
While were alive. Noone wanted to
20:33 not from Ireland
46:50 so the hans device has been around since 1984? I didnt realize its been that long. Obviously nothing like its current form. But noone thought for another almost 10 years that they should maybe look alot deeper into it and actually do it? Its not like jim was some random dude either. He was well respected in imsa.
If we compare it to other categories, Indy itself was much more dangerous, but the organizers knew how to work on the safety of the cars and the track, and with each death they improved and improved everything. NASCAR only introduced stronger safety measures in its vehicles after Dale's death in 2001. Before that, even with the horrors of the Sportsman, they didn't seem to care much about it. Formula 1, however, didn't. Villeneuve was ejected in mid-air, and nothing changed in terms of safety. De Angelis died due to a basic error of not having a medical team at a private test session, and at most they only remembered it later. And there were other accidents that left drivers permanently disabled, such as Phillip Streiff or Martin Donnelly.
@raiderbelacasa i know. Its appalling looking back
@@plisskenationbackfromthede3657 And so much so that bizarre situations still occurred. The most absurd was the death of Jules Bianchi, and thanks to that, racing in the rain is no longer possible.
It just didnt stop in 94. Now lamy gets hurt (yes i did see aidens video on the matter, amazing he lived.) That was my 1st year watching f1 at 9yo so i dont recall all the testing crashes. But my god there were alot of bad crashes. Theres senna and roland obviously. Then rubens, lamy, alesi, wendlinger, lehto, and probably a few more im missing that all got hurt. Insanity. Tbh, i didnt think much of it. Id seen deaths and injuries in indycar and nascar before that. Announcers would usually be like "hes not dead, so hes fine" when dudes legs got turned into stumps or his brain got scrambled. But man, after imola, that whole season had a black aura following it like the stench of death
A lot of it also stems from the FIA banning all the driver aids from the 1993 season all at once instead of doing it gradually. In Adrian Newey's book he mentioned that the 94 Williams was the 93 with everything taken off which it was never designed for. It took them awhile to design a suspension to work with that car and it took until 1995 to get back where they should have been.
@danielhenderson8316 im sure but its just wow. I cant think of a year that bleak even in the 60s or 50s
Probably is rose tinted glasses or just ignorance in my case. Take 73. Wiiliamson and cervert. Those are the 2 that died on track. We remember that. How much info is tgere about f1 outside of official race weekends then. And likei said, if you werent dead, you were fine. So we just never heard about this or that driver if they didnt die
@@plisskenationbackfromthede3657 The 60s and 70s were perhaps the darkest decades in Formula 1, where every season either resulted in deaths or drivers being sidelined for a long time. And yet, they did not invest in safety. They only made changes when a big-name driver died. And even then, the changes were highly questionable, so much so that the accidents that still occurred in Monaco, Silverstone (testing) and Barcelona still showed that safety was lacking.
@@raiderbelacasa but they didnt even in 1970 when the champion had already been put 6 feet underground. Just strap on bigger wings and gas tanks next year. If he doesnt crssh and die he'll win. I like a bit of a gladiator vibe but thats insane
Crazy to think Flavio is STILL part of Team Enstone 30 years later after EVERYTHING that teams been though
Last time an American was on the podium in F1 😭
That’s why I’m excited about the potential of Cadillac/ GM entry in 2026 I know at some point they will have an 1 or 2 American drivers perhaps pie in the sky but the potential is therev
It sucks we didn’t get to see Schumacher and senna fight for the 1994 wdc
F1 at Indy did happen a few years later I was at the first one in 2000 and honestly would axe Miami and go back to Indy
No HANS or even neck Donut ... or Safer barrier ? GODSPEED SENNA !
Omg, wrong flag @6:41 . Oh Americans... smh....
Derek Dalys comments were all eerily spot on, unfortunately. He pretty much predicted what had happened with his obviously superior technical knowledge of crashes and such. Damn ...
Selective penalizing. Mika passed Alasi on the pace lap but was not flagged for it...🙄
Same goes for the Barrichello/ Hakkinen crash at the end
Death of a f1 god😢
Its eery all the things they say before the accident. Like "tomorrow they mourn of their own", "low grip circuit with too many chicanes", "mechanical failure is a drivers worst nightmare", showing bergers monster crash before showing rolands, etc. Its kinda creepy just how much foreshadowing their was
I remember watching this live on ESPN.. And the switch to watching the Sport Reporters and the news. Bad weekend all together.
For a minute I thought that was Sam Posey announcing. Bob really gave it his best despite his conditions.
RIP Ayrton Senna 🇧🇷
@asopher2 do you have a discord?
Bob sounded like a K-Mart pa announcer.
RIP Ayrton and Roland
Black Sunday...
The end of an era, in more ways than one...
Is this ESPN’s first Monaco broadcast?
Yes
...and this was the first race of the 1994 season that ESPN was on site vs the Previous 3 races that we're done Remote from a Studio, a practice that was starting to become a regular thing
Does anyone know why espn didn’t show the 1992 and 1993 Monaco gp I remember in F1 decade bob Varsha said the network that chose not show the race
From that season onwards, ESPN apparently began to broadcast everything from the studios in several races, without even having a reporter at the race site.
29:15 Wow he was absolutely bang on there.
I just commented how spot on he was on a few things he said. Obviously Derek knows his stuff but how frighteningly accurate he was. Watching this entire broadcast put me in a headspace. Just dread, man
1:41:06 touching tribute to Ayrton 💙
Very croaky Bob Varsha in this credit to him for doing the whole broadcast in that condition 👏
From 1:59 ish to 1:57, i hope this bastards of NBC or whatsoever don't annoy again. Thanks good IndyCar went to FOX
Oh man, these videos are such a treat but I expect they will be taken down any day now. Could you upload the files somewhere so we can download them? It would be amazing
It seems like NBC universal have taken down the San Marino gp
Yeah, I figured it wouldn't last long. I'm trimming out the copyrighted parts so it should be back up soon but with some parts edited out.
@@asopher2 NBC Universal putting their fingers where are not supposed to be. The race was broadcast by the freaking ESPN!!, I get it if the complain were from Disney, but NBC!!!? COME ON!!!
Senna's most astonishing drive
