I doubt she regret much, Horsent purging was good old revenge for what they did to her, she fell the giants so they in any hypothesis couldn’t burn the Erdtree, she may regret keeping the persecution on the descendants of the hornsent but i believe it stopped there, Marika took the Rune of Death not for her age to be eternal, but to keep her subjects and her children away from death, her trauma blinded her, she believed that the reincarnation by the erdtree was better than facing death, but what hurted Marika the most, was godwyn unusual death, not only he was her Golden child, but Godwyn couldn’t reincarnate in the erdtree, his souls was dead, her golden child taken from her, Death again knocked on Marika’s door and took someone Marika loved. Marika did everything to keep Death at bay, even sending her shadow into a place trapped in time with Death but it mattered not, Death found a way out and came back to haunt her again, she probably realized that the fingers were lying all this time as well, as she was researching the Golden Order, ppl even tried to stop her, but i believe she came to know the truth, the Greater Will was long gone and Metyr was making all up.
Well we know Marika created the Tarnished before Radagon took the throne to fight, die, to one day be called back and once more wage war Marika is who grants us Guidance, the same Guidance that leads us to things like slaying Miquella who was repeating many of her same mistakes, to Messmer, to Ranni, you get the picture Melina was tasked by Marika to burn the Erdtree She has a crisis of faith (Minor Erdtree Church), and this was the birth of Fundamentalism, studying Order not solely through faith She told her children to make something of themselves, be it a Lord, be it a God, or become sacrifices, and this has to have been before she Shattered the Ring because well, we know what happened to her after she did
The lines, "To gods those that hear me the monsters up high I stake my rejection and bide my aid's time." Is such a hard line. And it's a lovely contrast to We Rise, "When kings rise against have it writ on their grave the old gods were felled by a mortal unnamed."
The fact that Marika's story is simply that of a woman who lost everything and lashed out at a world that had done nothing but hurt her, only to regret the actions she took to seek a revenge that didn't even give her the satisfaction she wanted from it, is so PAINFULLY human for so sublime and divine a figure that it really brings a tear to the eye to contemplate. There but by grace do any of us go, driven mad with grief and demanding that the world compensate you for your personal suffering with the continual suffering of countless others, as if the pain you inflict will somehow be a balm for the pain you've endured. A hideous cycle of vengeance, death, and destruction spanning ages and ages, bringing the very forces of the universe into conflict... all because one poor, grieving young woman wanted her home, her family, her life back.
God this album is so peak. I can't wait for Burn. Or Armored in Gold. Or Cleansing Flame. Or Imperfected. I can't decide honestly this album is just too good
"I am the lord of all that is golden, and one day, we'll return together-to our home, bathed in rays of gold." This song reminds me of this dialogue from Godrick, and it always feels very profound. And, by chance, this line also reminds me of the Streets Of Gold by Aviators, although it doesn't have very much relation. That song, too, is very peak.
By Grace is easily my favorite song from Casting Shadows. It's such a beautiful tragedy with so much desperation, mourning, pain, and regret - but likewise just that faint glimmer of hope - poured into the overall atmosphere, instrumentation, lyricism, and vocals themselves that never fails to pluck at my heartstrings, even after repeated listens. This is rather definitively how you finish an album. Truly exceptional 💙

I will like to thank Aviator for this wonderful song. Queen Marika has always captivated me, and prior to the DLC revelations with the Hornsent and the Shaman Village, I always felt there was something deeper with her as a character-that she was not some Gwyn-copy that feared the loss of her reign or power. I don’t agree with much of the fandom’s perception of her-that she is an entirely evil entity. Genocidal? Absolutely. But certainly not entirely evil. She is definitely the epitome of GRRM’s grayness in his character writing, and I feel like that often is overlooked due to her genocidal conquests against the Hornsent and later the Fire Giants. But she obviously had regrets, and I have a theory that her actions to shatter the Elden Ring was as much to end her existence, tied with grief and sorrow and anger. There is something tragic about her that I can’t entirely put into words. I just love her character so much and find her fascinating.
you know... to me, the irrefutable proof that Marika regretted it all so much, that she was not going to let it stand any longer, is not that she shattered the Elden Ring. It's Hewg. She gave him a task. To forge a weapon fit to kill a god. She and Radagon may be two beings, but they are one god. She had all intention to put herself to the sword to see it all end. As much as she committed atrocities and wrought horrors (and we know at least Messmer's crusade was her own wish, and not her Godhood or whatever) she is a character that evokes so much more than just condemnation from the audience. By Grace really illustrates it for me. Never fails to make me emotional.

Its the only place in all these games that I consider to be truly peaceful - for all the terrible things that Marika has done, this place remained unscarred, ever remaining an idyllic memory that all her regret and sorrow rested upon. I spent an hour just walking around on that plateau and slowly watching the sun set, contemplating the decisions to make - and it convinced me to give the Goldmasks vision a try. To give all these lost and misguided, broken characters a chance at atonement through an order that wouldn't abandon them.
Goldmasks Order is simply a rehash of the Golden Order but with the attempt at being "perfect" being that it does not change the rules, it cannot adapt, and any Order forged upon Marika and the Erdtree is inherently flawed, its very roots rotted Goldmasks issue is Marikas "fickleness", or as the JP puts it, her Human heart Gold is perhaps kindness, but Goldmask wishes for an Order of Gold that tries to reject that His mask is said to represent his vision, and it is cracked and stained, he is described not by who he is, but by his mask, despite him stating he dislikes vanities And it has to be noted, Goldmasks issue lies with Marika/Radagon, and yet, by the end, they are dead regardless, and Order is ruled by someone Human Both Goldmask and Corhyn are blindfolded, Goldmask never states his intentions or plans, and so for the Tarnished to use his Mending Rune, well... it's blind faith I could go on, but you get the idea
I always interpreted it as she somehow managed to set up the Roundtable and Hewg after being crucified in the Erdtree, and she wanted Hewg's weapon to end her suffering. It feels like every Aviators song becomes an obsession of mine. It's more than just music. It's so deep and impactful, and along with the video it's an experience that's so much more than the sum of its parts.
To be honest, I have listened Aviators for few years through thinking they were legitimately making music for souls-like games (I have never played any, but I like this kind of music). Few weeks ago I wanted to share this music with my girlfriend and to provide a background I searched for history of this artist and was supprised I cannot find much. I was sure I am listening to international star but, to be fair, this channel is not so popular. I am in shock that this gem and this pure kind of music the artist makes is hidden. I dream of international tour and I believe they would make the best show ever.
Your videos just keep getting better and better! I love the storytelling with this one, especially with the callback to the very start of the tarnished's journey with the line "To those I rejected, I pray you'll return," and the final chorus portraying the beginning of the game. Plus, this being the final track on Casting Shadows, looping back to your first Elden Ring song which is about that whole premise....absolute cinema. Definitely one of the best songs on the album.

Not sure if it's just me, but it sounds like the vocals got mixed differently in this version compared to the other one, and I love it! The lower vocals mixing with the main singing is amazing!
