    Love that you have the Hero 7, One X, and Pocket Osmo all going at once! Funny story, I was snowboarding today and had my One (not the X- want at least the Venture case before I use it -waiting almost 3 months now) so, I had the One and I was holding it behind me when another snowboarder gets my attention and politely lets me know that I am not getting any good video because my camera is pointing away. I yelled back that I am actually getting EVERYTHING because it is a 360 camera and it literally catches everything and that later I can choose what I want in editing! He seemed impressed. It was amusing!

      I just really thought it was funny that he didn't think I was getting any video and the reality couldn't have been more completely the opposite! A person could not have been more wrong about something-but I was nice about it! I'm always waiting for people to ask about the camera since it is obviously not a GoPro. Actually, another funny thing about today, I had the pole strapped across my chest and the guy running the lift said at first glance it looked like I had a torque wrench and he was wondering what I was going to torque!

    Just got an insta360 one x for an upcoming trip to a Disney World and cruise. I saw your footage at Disney and wondered what you use to hold the camera in the parks since they don’t allow selfie sticks. I’ve learned a lot from your videos and appreciate your advice! Look forward to your reply. Thanks!

      Thanks scinnamon3! Sounds like an exciting trip! Perfect for using the One X! Yes you are right about the rule about selfie sticks. For rides I just hold the One X. If you're wary of dropping it, you can get a D-ring and wrist strap. Walking around the park, I use a monopod with tripod legs, which falls under their definition of a tripod, such as the monoshot monoshot.co/ . Be careful not to extend it to its maximum length or you might attract security's attention.

    Seems like edit, keyframes and else are saved into the original insv file, and not as a separate satellite file. To make several edits of the same file, you need to duplicate the Gigabyte size original. Maybe in a next update we shall have a separate file for the edit, like save the project...

    I just shot a timelapse with my Insta360 One X. Now I have loaded those individual frames (*.insp file format) into Insta360 Studio 2019. So far I can find no way to combine them into a single video. Is there a manual on how this editor works? (I've found no help on the web site.) Thanks for a great channel.

    • @360vroomers
      @360vroomers  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Robert. There are two time lapse modes. The time lapse photo will shoot individual photos, and you'll need to combine them into a video using Premiere or other video editors. The much easier way is time lapse video, which will create a video for you (it creates one video file, similar to a regular one x video). To use time lapse video, switch to video mode, and then hold down the shutter to toggle the sub-mode to time lapse. Use settings to change the interval. Easy as pie! I'll create a comprehensive tutorial for one x

    • @360vroomers

      hi Michael! It can work if you can export the Max 360 video in H.264 or H.265. Right now, that is possible only with the Mac app (or the phone app). The PC version of MAX exporter can only export in cineform so far, which is incompatible with insta360 studio. Hopefully Max exporter will add h264 and h265 soon!

    Nice one Mic, I have to consider how relevant my Premier Pro subscription is. I have to agree with you totally in the workflow point of view. The speed that it takes to get the footage from camera to end product is key. We want to be spending our time shooting viewing and sharing, not editing. Insta360 and the OneX just nails this.

    • @360vroomers
      @360vroomers  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes insta360 one x's workflow is probably the best at the moment. It is possible to do without premiere pro, if you are willing to do a 2-step editing process: create overcapture videos, then edit the overcapture videos in another video editor. FWIW insta360 promised that we will be able to create montages. but I'm not sure if they mean the smartphone app or studio or both.

      Thanks Dustin! Great questions. Re changing speeds, which insta calls timeshift, i believe insta will add it to the desktop app in the future. for now i just do hyperlapse sequences on my phone then import the hyperlapse videos to my desktop. Tracking is a feature that i haven't seen on a 360 camera desktop app. I'm not sure if it's harder to program on a desktop or what, so i don't know if that feature will be added to the Studio app or not. It is possible to do it in After Effects, although it is quite complicated. Powerdirector also has some 360 tracking capability although it is used for titles, instead of panning the camera

    Do you also use a Removu K1? In the video it seems that yes. Can you make a video talking about this camera and why or for what you use it. It seems strange that someone wants a camera with gimbal like the removu or the osmo if it has the 360 that seems to offer a better stabilization and more creative possibilities. Finally, I see that the 360 has a really bad sound, so, is there any possibility of using an external microphone to improve that?

    • @360vroomers
      @360vroomers  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi RecursosEnInternet! Yes you are very observant. I do use Removu K1. I will make a video about it and Osmo Pocket, and compare them to One X. As for 360 sound, the problem is not the microphone. the problem is that if you put the camera on a selfie stick, it will be far away from you. So any camera or even microphone that is far away will not sound good. In my case I use Zoom H1N or H2N and then I connect it to a lav microphone. In postprocessing, I sync them. The Zoom H1N and H2N can record for many hours so i don't have to worry about starting and stopping the recording, unless i'm not shooting anymore.

However, I also asked about using the 360 for everything, that is to say, imagine that I am going on a trip... would you take the 360 and some other camera like the removu? and if you answer that if, why? I don’t understand all the exporting settings. For TH-cam and Facebook what is the best exporting settings? Is 3820 or 1080 better? Also, what bit rate I see you have 18 but others do 60? Also, h264 or h265?
    There is a huge black Stitching Line and the video is very blurry. Why? Maybe due to wrong exporting settings? It’s fine in the Desktop Studio App but only happens when it’s exports.

    • @360vroomers

      Hey there SteAmy. Is your final video a 360 video or non-360 video? If it is a 360 video then it should be the original resolution of 5760 x 2880. If it is a non360 video, then you can export as 1080. You can export non360 as 3840 x 2160 some higher resolution but there is going to be almost no difference from 1080. Re h264 or h265, use h264 if you will edit it. It will be easier to edit than h265. If you will post it, you can use either one. H264 files are larger while h265 files take up less space.
      Re huge black stitch line, pls post a link to your video or a screenshot so i know what you mean.

    Does the venture case effect image quality at all? Clarity? Do different lighting conditions cause flares or reflections while using the case? Maybe you can do a video comparing with and without the case and do some crops to compare closely.

      Hi there Growing Answers! Great question. I was planning a video except that Insta360 doesn't have the venture case in stock yet. When they do i will post a comparison video. But for now i can send you a sample video. Basically, the stitiching is smooth above water. Under water, the stitching is not smooth. Venture Case does add some glare -- the kind that decreases the contrast of the side that is facing the key light.

And second, when i chose to export freecapture 3840 x2160 (because this is the resolution of my mp4 rendered fusion clips) do i really get this resolution, or just a larger video file with the same quality as if i was exporting 1080?

    • @360vroomers
      @360vroomers  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks buddy! The default bit rate is the original bitrate. If you choose a higher bitrate, it won't really improve the image quality. Similarly, for the resolution 1080 is the normal resolution because even if the video is 5.7K, you're only viewing a small portion of it. This is true also for the Fusion.
      What software are you using for your video editing? If you're using Premiere, you could create a 1080p sequence and then import videos from Fusion and Insta360 (even if higher than 1080p). When you apply the GoPro VR Reframe effect, the videos will automatically be reframed and resized to match the 1080p video. I hope that helps!

    I need help with my Insta360 One (without the X). I bought it late last year before a long trip to New Zealand and didn't have time to learn how to use it. Frankly the software is a mess and I haven't found any video tutorials (or written one either) to explain the workflow. You do a better job than most, but you still are not clear enough for me to figure out how to shoot, download and edit.
    QUESTIONS
    1. Will the Insta360 Studio for ONE X work with the files from the camera I have, Insta360 One?
    2. What is the workflow for the Insta360 One? When do I have to have it plugged into my phone and when can I use it with Bluetooth?
    3. Do you know of any tutorials that can help me use the camera I already have?
    COMMENTS ON THIS VIDEO
    In this video you spend lots of time on subjects that are obvious to me since I've been editing regular video four many years. You gloss over the subjects about 360 video that I know little about. Here are some examples.
    1. I know what key frames are and how to use them.
    2. I know what transitions are and how to use them.
    3. I know what stitching is but I don't know how it applies in this video. If fact I thought the Insta360 cameras stitched the the two 180 degree shots together right in the camera. So you could explain that more.
    4. I know next to nothing about the file formats that store 360 video so I love for you to explain that some more.
    5. I want to use my 360 camera to shoot travel videos and then edit them into a standard video. I do not want to publish 360 videos. I want to use it to let me shoot and then pick the frame in post. You mention this a lot, so I guess many people don't get this but it was obvious to me and the main reason I bought the camera. But the bad software and my inability to discover a viable workflow has really soured my experience with the Insta360 product and company.
    6. You use of the terms _Free Capture, Over Capture, Reframed_ near the start of the video. The first two were not helpful. The last one I could guess about what it meant. I would have preferred for you to define these terms right then instead of leaving me confused. After watching your video I still don't know what they mean.
    7. So what is a _Free Capture_ video? Is this exclusive to the ONE X or is it a general terms applicable to all 360 video?
    8. What is _Over Capture_ video?
    9. What is the _No Stitch_ workflow? What is the _Stitched_ workflow? I think I know what stitch means I just don't know how it fits into the workflow.
    CONCLUSION
    I've been writing software for about 45 years, so poor user interfaces in apps really annoy me. I also feel like the company and community has abandoned the camera I have in favor of the newest one. I think you do a better job with your videos than the other channels that cover 360 topics, but I'm still left in the dark about how to use what I've got. I have to admit that I put my camera away after the bad experience I've had with it. I'm just now thinking about giving it another shot.
    Thanks for a helpful channel. Please help me become a better 360 video user.

      QUESTIONS
      > 1. Will the Insta360 Studio for ONE X work with the files from the camera I have, Insta360 One?
      Yes! And you'll be able to switch stabilization modes too :D
      > 2. What is the workflow for the Insta360 One? When do I have to have it plugged into my phone and when can I use it with Bluetooth?
      You can use Insta360 One by itself, or wirelessly with a phone, or attached to a phone. Connecting to a phone gives you access to settings and modes not available when using it standalone. Physically connecting the One to your phone gives you live view, not available wirelessly.

      Yes here is a detailed tutorial for Insta360 One th-cam.com/video/DN5YWVmrERE/w-d-xo.html
      COMMENTS ON THIS VIDEO
      > 3, 9. I know what stitching is but I don't know how it applies in this video.
      Insta360 files are actually unstitched, even though they look stitched. If you change the extension .insv to .mp4, and .insp to .jpg you will see that they are actually unstitched double circular fisheyes.
      > 4. I know next to nothing about the file formats that store 360 video so I love for you to explain that some more.
      360 videos are usually mp4, in equirectangular projection, with a 2:1 ratio, but they can be in almost any file format. You can actually have any aspect ratio -- the important thing is for the 360 video to be equirectangular and for it to have the 360 metadata. If the 360 metadata was lost during editing, it can be reinjected using the 360 metadata injector tool: github.com/google/spatial-media/releases/tag/v2.1
      In the future, 360 videos may also be in cubemap projection but for now equirectangular is the standard.
      > 5. I want to use my 360 camera to shoot travel videos and then edit them into a standard video. I do not want to publish 360 videos. I want to use it to let me shoot and then pick the frame in post.
      Yes this is exactly what overcapture is for! :D And it is easier on Insta360 cameras than on any other 360 camera.
      > 6, 7, 8. You use of the terms Free Capture, Over Capture, Reframed near the start of the video.
      All these terms mean using the 360 video as a non-360 video, as you intended in #5. Overcapture is a term that was popularized by GoPro. Reframed is just a generic term. Freecapture is Insta360's term for overcapture or reframed video.
      The advantage of overcapture is that you'll be able to do camera moves that wouldn't normally be possible with a traditional camera. This video explains overcapture in more detail: th-cam.com/video/WG1jXsPjl1s/w-d-xo.html
      BTW if you haven't seen it, you may be interested in these videos to keep you motivated:

    But, regarding Mig-15 vs F86 losses, did you care enough to study statistics from the other side?

    • @360vroomers
      @360vroomers  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you very much Viktor! Yes I have heard other statistics, such as a 4:1 ratio in favor of Mig15, or a 10:1 ratio in favor of F86. The 9:1 ratio I used is from this article: blog.codinghorror.com/boyds-law-of-iteration/ TBH I dont know which one is true. Please feel free to post links to other statistics!
      Whether the stats are accurate or not, John Boyd's analysis has been influential and has been used in military strategy, management, and even litigation: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Boyd_(military_strategist)#The_OODA_Loop
      I think the theory of speed vs. quality is correct. With digital cameras for example, a user can become more skilled much more quickly than someone who learns with a traditional camera, because of the immediate feedback from a digital camera.

      @@360vroomers Thank you for elaborating. Where there is conflict of interests, the truth can be hard or impossible to find; the key is to be looking for it. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Korean_War_flying_aces and it's Russian version demonstrate the scale of discrepancy on total aircraft losses.
      The article is interesting; the OODA loop methodology is indeed very practical and applicable to many real-world situations.

    How do I export a video to be viewed through VR Goggles on a phone?

    • @360vroomers
      @360vroomers  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Townsville. All you have to do is export the video as a 360 video. In Insta360 Studio, make sure you are in the "View" tab (not Freecapture tab), then export your video. It will be exported as a 360 video. Then use a VR viewing app on your phone to view the video. Do you have an iOS or Android phone?

    I've spent a lot of time learning photography and filming 360, watching your videos, The 360 Guy, Ben Claremont, TravelPedia 360 and many others. The greatest difficulty in learning is not in the 360's practice and in the handling of equipment, but rather in the workflow, especially with regard to seams, corrections and what programs to use. In this context, regarding this your video and the software Insta 360 studio, I ask: (I am using the camera Mi sphere)
    - When exporting the final file, a metadata error appears - Should the metadata injection (use Spatial Media Injector) be done in the camera source file or after sewing in the Mi Sphere Camera app (PC)? Still doing both ways, the error follows.
    - I could not enable the Aplicction - Lock Direction functions and no other functions below (not enabled). Are these functions only available for the Insta camera?
    Thank you

      @360vroomers  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Eduardo. Here is the mi sphere workflow:
      1. Use mi sphere camera app on phone or desktop to stitch.
      2. If you want to convert the 360 video to overcapture, you can do that with insta360 studio. Studio will not add stabilization -- it is only for converting. Stabilization is via mi sphere app in step 1.
      3. To combine several 360 videos or several non360 videos, use a video editor.
      Pls let me know if you have any questions.

    Here are clickable time points that viewers can use to instantly jump to specific parts of your tutorial:
    03:25 - Using the Insta360 One X Studio desktop application
    03:38 - Changing the various views of photos/videos (Asteroid, Crystal Ball, Fisheye, Perspective, Equirectangular)
    04:01 - Stabilization Modes: FlowState Stabilization keeps the scene always pointed in the same direction. Lock Direction keeps view pointed in the direction of the camera lens.
    05:32 - Export video
    05:45 - Take snapshot of a scene
    07:21 - Editing in Free Capture mode (skips the stitching process which yields better quality output)

      Hi Touchwood. To be fair these are unusual features. Only one 360 cam desktop app i know can edit multiple videos: Virb 360 and you can use Virb Edit for free even with One X. As for timeshift and color correction, the only 360 cam desktop that offers it afaik is rylo but it is only for mac. I think insta will add timeshift in the future.

    One other question I have. You tout this workflow as a NO stitch option...and/or it is unnecessary to stitch the file. When you 'export' the file...isn't it being automatically stitched together? Otherwords, how could you get those 360 views without some sort of stitching during the export process?

    • @360vroomers
      @360vroomers  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Checkered Flag. By no-stitch editing, it means that you can go straight to editing without stitching it first. Instead, stitching occurs during export, on an as-needed basis. For example, if you use only a 30 second segment from a 10 min video, it will stitch only that 30-sec segment. Even though it is not stitched until export, you do get to see the 360 view while editing, just as if it had already been stitched.
